Sneak peek at new Wintergrasp raid
Boubouille of MMO Champion was nice enough to send us some screenshots of the new wing of the raid in Wintergrasp, something he describes as "just a corridor" and too uninteresting to take pictures of. Still, he dove in there and took quite a bunch of screenshots of the vault's new wing, replete with Titan ornaments and columnar architecture. It's all reminiscent of things you've probably already seen, but still a good portent of things to come.
Kalgan spoke at length about the plans for Season 6, which included some drops from the new wing of the Vault of Archavon. Just like Archavon the Stone Watcher, the new raid boss -- currently a mystery -- will also drop PvE or Tier 8 gear. There's no sign of him on the PTR, either, although I wouldn't be surprised if the boss uses an existing giant model. Check out the gallery below courtesy of those fine folk at MMO Champion for more shots of... a corridor.

WOOT! I love these "grab bag loot" bosses
Dennis Mar 16th 2009 1:21PM
Now if Blizz would fix tenacity so both sides could win 50% of the battles.
my2cents Mar 16th 2009 1:31PM
Fix it in who's favor? The side with the tenacity or the other side? Just wondering. On my server (I play ally), the horde often has tenacityx20. It makes individual players feel like raid bosses and it does allow them to win a good chunk of the games, but we still win about 70% of the time.
havitech Mar 16th 2009 1:32PM
Why should both sides have the raid 50% of the time, especially if one side needs tenacity, and thus has less than 50% of the realm's population? (And if both sides are equal, it's not Blizzard's fault that one side keeps losing.)
On my realm, Alliance outnumbers Horde about 3-1, and they control Wintergrasp roughly 3 times more than Horde. Seems right to me.
Note: I hate the way WG is set up, and tenacity is just a band aid.
sSword Mar 16th 2009 2:30PM
I dont get it, you say just cos your population is 3 to 1 in favor of alliance you should have WG 3x more?
The pop on our server is much more imbalanced at 4.3:1 in favor of them pesky gnome lovers, so your reckoning Alliance should have WG more than 4x as much.... Yeah sounds fair.... well at least the Horde win enuf for me to use up my Raid ID's every week ;)

I have an idea for Tenacity.
Make it like the opposite of Thaddius. The more Tenacity people are standing next to each other, the less stacks they have. If they're 40 yards apart, they have full stacks.
Zuckerdachs Mar 16th 2009 9:07PM
It makes perfect sense for Alliance to have WG 4x more than Horde if the Alli/Horde ratio is 4:1. There are more people, so there should be more opportunities for them to get in.
Cootius Mar 17th 2009 1:30AM
on scillia alliance have 2-5 stacks
its obvious the buff isnt enof when a pvp geard FFB can take i semi PvP geard arcane mage with raid buffs and 5 stacks of tenancy
Rollo Mar 17th 2009 8:07PM
Since you don't have to line up and do VoA one raid at a time, no. Having a larger population doesn't mean you need more time controlling WG. :-/
maeby Mar 16th 2009 1:22PM
cool! first ive heard of a new wing :)
Riakam Mar 16th 2009 3:11PM
Great, another loot piƱata.
oddworld Mar 16th 2009 1:33PM
I hope the boss is a bit more visually interesting than Archavon. Arch is a fine fight, difficulty-wise (since it's intended for PUGs), but especially with Ulduar now, it will be boring fighting "just another giant." Maybe the "full of stars" type model that it appears Algalon (the raid destroyer!) will be using - though with the constellation ornaments in the corridor that might be overkill. Maybe it can be a Maiden (or a female watcher like Freya) this time to break things up a bit.

I'm really not a big fan of a new, easily accessible boss that drops Tier 8 gear. It was one thing in Tier 7; Naxx and its loot were supposed to be easily accessible. But Ulduar, though more accessible than T5 content, seems like you should actually have to do the instance to get its loot. Just my two cents.
Zuckerdachs Mar 16th 2009 9:07PM
I *assume* that a boss that drops Tier 8 will probably have mechanics that prevent undergeared people who don't deserve the Tier loot from being brought in.
At least, that's my hope...

Now fix the lag so wintergrasp is playable. It really makes defense impossible. It used to be before everyone hit 80.
Rob Mar 16th 2009 1:59PM
I really like this idea of having a few pieces of t8 gear available if you are lucky and presistant. Its just like any other raid, you have one shot a week (or two if you do 10/25), and chances are either your piece wont drop or someone else will get it. That's all assuming you actually win WG and further than you can get a raid together. Alot of unknowns. So, i aplaud this.
peagle Mar 16th 2009 2:15PM
Image looks identical to the current VoA?
Renfri Mar 17th 2009 10:05AM
I was making yesterday machinima about Ulduar using HoL and HoS as base - this wing looks exacly the same as wing in HoL. Just look up yourself.

On Area 52 I think its 10 to 1 Horde vs Alliance and I must say it is always fun trying to win when you are severely outnumbered and a genuine underdog. I remember being in a few battles in WG when we were assaulting the fortress and had well over 10x Tenacity buff.
My enhance shaman would run into a crowd of tanks and start blowing them up when my tenacity would hit well into the high teens or so. It would still stake smart play to sneak our siege tanks thru to eventually get the inner door broken down, but having that kinda power is alot of fun even if you are on a realm where your faction is like mine and hugely outnumbered. Still we stick around where many have Xferred off.
It's especially fun when I run a Black War Bear raid every now and again as it kinda would miff any opposing faction that outnumbers you 10 to 1. You have to use your wits and smarts and spies on the other side to best choose your next course of action. Same goes in BGs like Wintergrasp. Adapt or get steamrolled.

I think the new raid boss is Mecha-Streisand.
Note to self: Change toon's name to 'RobertSmith'.
