Breakfast Topic: The grass is greener

For the longest time, my wife envied the Alliance for the Sprite Darter Hatchling, but that's going to get straightened out soon enough. We also used to whine how the Alliance got the Winterspring Frostsabers, while the Horde never quite got the Venomhide Ravasaurs (we still might, though!). A lot of little things make us think that Blizzard favors one faction over the other.
This seems to be true of other classes, as well. No matter what happens, for some reason, there's always something that other classes have that the class you play doesn't. I know I'll always whine about a Death Knight's 1 second GCD in PvP. Among other things, I mean. I know how some players cry foul at the bubble. There's always something. Of course, it's really silly to think that there's any sort of favoritism going on (for the record, I don't think there's any), but we'll always find that the grass is greener on the other side. So, in what aspects of the game do you think the other faction or classes have it easier?

As Horde
Reputation (the travel distance between alliance Kalimdor and Alliance EK used to balance this, but not anymore :( ) the best example of this is Draenei, if you do all their baby zone quests you're just short of revered with all alliance
also, Explorer title due to the boats being full of npcs, and a city being in the way in Teldrassil
and finally, town location. Horde towns (I'm looking at you Tarren Mill) are so on the way of high level Alliance it's rid-onkulous

Ah, but luckily Darnassus isn't a super-crowded city. ;) Now if it was Ironforge we had to run through... ugh.

Horde can have goodlooking shamans (trolls/orcs/tauren). I want to level a shaman with my Alliance friends, but I find the draenei toons so ... uninspiring. Their heads are too small!

omg....why oh why would you write a thread that actually encourages whining?

Why would you complain about a thread about complaining?
bod Mar 18th 2009 12:10AM
Seemed sensible at the time, though with that sort of rhetorical nonsense response from you, who knows?

Alliance always winning? You must be in the Ruin Battlegroup, most unbalanced of them all.
Sometimes though, the grass is greener. I switched servers, which also switched me battlegroups, and I couldn't be happier. The move from a PvE server in Ruin to a PvE-RP server in Whirlwind, on a server that has a near 50-50 balance in population (Sisters of Elune), have kept me playing the game. If I was still on Medivh, or some other server that is even more imbalanced in population (like Bronzebeard), I think I'd quit. (I play Horde)
Balance is key, and most servers and battlegroups are anything but balanced.

Go SoE!
But anyway, pretty much up to the 71-80 bracket, Alliance always loses. Big time. We usually turtle to get the most Honor, but there are too many blood specced Belf Death Knights! All their silencing, and whatnot. Its plain old unfair.
Squelchy Mar 17th 2009 9:35AM
You think SoE is balanced? You MUST be horde!
Just kidding. I look forward to killing you soon. Aw, who am I kidding? I look forward to being killed by you soon.

nightfall EU battlegroup: horde always pwns alterac valley, it just takes hours before enough allys sign in and we can start pwning them... ¬¬
SarahTheGnome Mar 17th 2009 9:50AM
Amen to that, stopped playing AV, every time I go in there, we start out with 10 alliance players against about 30 horde.
lilreafer Mar 22nd 2009 7:51PM

P.S.

First, do you remember what Blizzard shows to create a huge (and expensive) statue of in their headquarters courtyard? Here's a reminder: http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/02/26/blizzard-finishes-courtyard-statue/
Not sure I can buy that they really favor Alliance :D
To the point: I've played and done BGs on both factions in about 6 different battlegroups. There is no consistent Horde or Alliance advantage at all - even within a given battlegroup. If you play long enough and consistently enough, there will be ups and downs on every single map in every single group for both factions.
It really boils down to the base level of intelligence that a given faction+battlegroup have. Some groups I've done you can just tell that the players care about winning and WANT to coordinate their efforts to secure victory - and guess what? It works! While on other combinations, the players are HK-farming idiots with no sense of greater victory.
I really think Blizzard taking away the diminishing honor return for multiple kills on the same person was a HUGE mistake. Players on the losing team can sometimes get more points than anyone on the winning team. That kind of defies logic, IMO.

Definitely. I was in a WSG the other day where we came up against a pre-made. Not a big deal, expected to get steamrolled. Instead they trapped the majority of players at the graveyard and repeatedly aoe'd us to death. Chuck in frost-traps and no buffs due to just ressing and we didn't have a chance. Eventually someone on our side capped the flag and 'won' the BG for us. Blizz need to deal with this kind of crap
Dischordant Mar 17th 2009 8:43AM
I'm actually on the Bloodlust battlegroup as well, and the only time we lose an AV is usually when the alliance manage to field a full team of 40 players, which doesn't seem to happen very often. Ie, my last AV was 40 horde, and 23 alliance, and we just facerolled our way to victory, like we usually do. We just end up outnumbered in most other BG's (i'm looking at you WSG.)
Axolotl Mar 17th 2009 8:34AM
I've seen this thread somewhere before, and it somehow confirmed that Blizzard actually DOES favour alliance (just a thiny amount) and class-wise they're quite fond of Rogues and Warlocks.
They sometimes feel guilty about this (no they don't) and will then denie the whole thing.
The Overpowered feel of the Deathknight is intentional (gear designed to live through outland, deathgrip making pulls realy easy)
Players on the other hand tend to choose sides with the underdog, making Horde very popular on some servers
Destro(Chrom) Mar 17th 2009 8:11PM
druid forms how can the alliance get such pretty ones over the tauren devil bear, horned lion, ok I have less problem with the bear then the lion but still its supposed to be a stealth cat and its bright yellow, it could at least be a puma so it would look sleeker.
superstone Mar 17th 2009 8:38AM
On my two battlegroups they are completely opposite.
On Emberstorm (at least back at 70 when I last played there) we dominated everything EXCEPT AV.
On Shadowburn at 70-80 (current) we rule at AV and pretty much eat it at everything else.
Different places, different frustrations.
superstone Mar 17th 2009 8:40AM
Doh!
Forgot to mention that "we"=Horde.
bundee Mar 17th 2009 12:43PM
I'm on Emberstorm now and we eat it at everything except AV now >.>
