The Queue: You have been pwned by a grue
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
What is a grue?
The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale. (source)
Who wants to go start a WoW based mud with me?What is a grue?

Jeni asked...
"Regarding the shift in glyphs...what happens if you want to use a Glyph of Levitate in both specs? What if you don't care enough about your off spec to get new glyphs each time you switch specs (for instance, keep your holy glyphs when you switch specs to shadow to quest?) Does it eat up your glyphs anyhow?"
When you purchase dual specs a new glyph pane will activate that is bound to your second spec. It will be empty, and every time you switch to your second spec you'll automatically activate the new glyph pane.
It is not an optional process. You cannot choose to have use just one set of glyphs for each spec. If you want to have the Glyph of Levitate in both specs, then you'll need to include it in both glyph sets. While I know some people disagree with me, I don't really see this as too much of a pain because most of us spend all of 5 minutes buying glyphs for a spec anyways. So one time spending 5 minutes reglyphing isn't too bad.
Ian R asked...
"Do you have to beat the old Vault of Archavon to get to the new one?"
Very unlikely. Blizzard has came out clearly against any sort of attunements for Wrath of the Lich King, and requiring a raid be previously completed before being able to enter or engage in a new one is just another way of saying "attunement."
But with that said, we don't know a whole lot about the new raid, just some pics.
Randron asked...
"How do I change my picture for my comments?"
First, our comment system sucks and I'm sorry that it does. Click on your name as it appears in the comments, this will bring you to a new page. Login with your name and password at that new page. You'll see an option in the upper right hand side to change your picture.
As far as it not working correctly, it can take some time. I changed mine from some stupid gem I found initially back when I started here to an emo picture of myself. I changed the image around 3 months ago and it still isn't showing up all the time. It fails too, and we've complained about it to the people we need to complain to, but that's all we can do.
Namus asked...
"Last night while running Heroic UK with a bunch of friends (DK tank, Spriest, Resto Druid, FF Mage) and a PUG (Spriest), then this dropped from the trash http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44312 since it was our DK's first heroic as a tank it was a clear upgrade for him, so we started to congratulate him (you know, calling him lucky bastard and stuff) when the pugged Spriest started complaining that it was BoE, we all passed on the roll to give it to the DK who rolled need, the priest left party (didn't roll at all) and our druid started whispering to him asking what was the problem and he said that since the item was BoE we all should have the same right to roll on it regardless it was an upgrade for our tank, our druid replied that the usual rules are mainspec over offspec and need before greed in heroics/raids usually and we didn't even think about rolling against a class that was obviously going to use it and not just vendor it, at the end the priest called us a bunch of noobs, the druid called him a greedy bastard blah blah.
My question is: are we a bunch of noobs for giving a BoE random drop for a person that is actually going to use it? or should we have rolled for it since we all could sell it on the AH? what do you guys think?"
TLDR Version: We were running a heroic and pugged a DPS spot. When a tanking item dropped we wanted to give it to our new tank, even though it was a BoE epic. The pugger threw a fit and left, even though we were going to let him roll. Are we a bunch of noobs?
Not really. I would have done the same thing in your situation. Loot drama always amazes me as I see the following as truths:
- Loot doesn't matter in this game. It's clear the game has become about skill and encounter knowledge.
- Loot is just a bunch of pixels on the screen. People are getting angry over pixels. How about instead they turn on the news and get angry about something bad that's happening in the world.
- It's a fraken game.
- The average player spends a good amount of time in-game. How many purples and blues are they going to see in a week? The answer is a lot. The loot will drop again.
- Being a nice guy is more important than getting loot or gold for loot. The benefits from personal relationships you'll develop by being a nice guy vastly outweighs any sort of character development potential.

I've actually seen those exact same shoulders drop in a heroic pug. It was a vast upgrade (He was wearing like a 76 blue) Everyone in the party just passed it to the tank and he equipped it then and there.
I dont understand how people can still be so self-obsessed in a multiplayer game built around ...y'know... working together. But that's just me =/

on Namus's question i completely agree, i myself have been in the same situation where i was the tank lucky enough to get the drop, but i still got some QQ off one of the party members for needed a BoE, it amazeses me that people can be so greedy over WoW gold that they would hinder a fellow players progession.
Imo, need if u need, simple as.
Slog Mar 17th 2009 11:16AM
Greed is apparently bleeding from IRL to in-game, not that this is new.
I too had an experience like the last question, except everyone in the pug was against me needing on a clear upgrade BoE drop. So in the end, I rolled greed with everyone else, lost (of course) and simply purchased it from the winner.
Was I mad? Kinda. Was it fair? I guess. But like OP said, at the end of the day its a game and nothing more than pixels, and same goes for gold in-game as well.

I woulda rolled need. If they boot you, does it really matter?

Actually it did matter because I was running pugs to farm a bow, which is what I was really after, the BoE was a bonus drop, in which I would have considered in the AH at a higher price. Thats why I wasnt "rawr" angry over it, certainly not enough to leave the group.
Side note, my bow did drop that run.

@Karilyn couldn't agree with you more. When a blue drops, and noone is an enchanter in a dungeon and I'm the only one who rolls greed I just don't get it.
As for the text based adventure mud..well I know you know they've been made. Kyrandia was my first venture into that on a BBS, back before the internet was just getting started. Pretty fun. Even some pvp to it. I macro's all the spells. It Eventually turned into a computer game on floppy disk. I'm dating myself here but that and the Kings Quest series were my jam back then.

In pugs, I usually greed items that are BoE, even if I can use them myself. But I have no problem with someone needing a BoE, they just have to equip it right away to show they actually use it and aren't secretly going to AH it. Or 'needing for an alt'.

Just get gravatars working for the profile pics ...

Are certain titles/achievements going away when patch 3.1 hits?
While I haven't read anything about this firsthand, I overheard a guildie saying something about certain achievements going away (like the ZA bear did) because of the upcoming class changes and new gear from Uldaur.
So... Any truth to that? And if so, can you elaborate? Thanks!
bundee Mar 17th 2009 11:27AM
So far the only 2 that I've heard are going away are the Glory of the Raider and Heroic: GotR, each of which give a proto-drake. I assume the 5-man heroics achievement will probably go away as well.
Evaline Mar 17th 2009 11:39AM
So much misinformation... Don't listen to Bundee.
To clarify:
The REWARDS of Heroic: Glory of the raider and Glory of the raider are getting REMOVED. (because of new gear, making them easier to get, yada yada)
The ACHIEVEMENTS themselves are STAYING.
Sorry for caps.
The Zul'Aman bear was made unobtainable, that doesn't mean they removed the achievement for it. When, post 3.1, you complete either GotR, you simply don't get a reward (the proto drake) anymore.

What's the story with the inscription changes on the PTR?
Here's what I'm guessing. Bliz is annoyed that scribes just sit in the AH to learn recipes, so now they have to grind mobs to get the new ones.
What's left out is how much grinding my scribe will have to do.
We know there's 50 recipes, and we can guess that you'll always learn something when you read one of these manuals, assuming there's something for you to learn.
So, what's the drop rate, and what parts did I get wrong?
Sharkhunt Mar 17th 2009 11:40AM
They might just be trying to give new scribes the same chance that old scribes have to learn the new glyphs and get them into the marketplace. My scribe knows every glyph currently in the game, so if the new glyphs were available with research my odds of getting a 3.1 glyph would be 100% every day.
Hopefully the drop rate is a little better than it is for damaged necklaces.

WoW Insider comments must be full of saints and philanthropists as I thought it was pretty common knowledge that BOE Epics are always /roll greed.
SmokeTheBear Mar 17th 2009 11:44AM
That made sense back in vanilla WoW when it took a long time to level up, and it was common for casual players to never pick up a single piece of epic gear. BoE epics were *so good* that you'd have to be a fool to actually equip them instead of selling them, much of the time.
But the times, as they say, are a-changin'. "Greed on BoE epics" hasn't been "common knowledge" in my experience for 2+ years. It's one more reason why you should clarify any loot rules at the start of any PuG, and in guild runs the baseline distribution rules should be clearly spelled out.

something that popped into my head recently and is probably a stupid question, but is resurrection a newly founded spell? i mean with all the lore heroes arthas killed what would happen if a priest just came along and rezzed them? if resurrection isnt new why didnt the heroes just get a rez, or did they go into a nerd rage and quit the game?
Evaline Mar 17th 2009 11:32AM
There's Lore, and then there's Game Mechanics. They don't mesh well.
Would you play a game where once you die, your character gets deleted?
Would you like reading lore/stories where everyone is immortal because they can be ressurected over, and over, and over again?
Wiffleman Mar 17th 2009 12:07PM
I seem to remember something from Warcraft 3. When Arthas was told to get Kel'Thuzad's remains to ressurect them, he asked the same question. The answer?
He's far too powerful to just be rezzed. They needed something powerful to help bring him back. Take that, apply it to current high-end lore characters, bam question answered.
Adrexani Mar 17th 2009 12:32PM
thank you wiffleman thats a good answer
