Bornakk winks at new Children's Week content
Bornakk, you sneaky little... Over on the forums, when someone brings up the PTR achievements we've seen for the newly revamped Children's Week, he just kind of snickers and avoids the topic. And while that may mean that he's just ignoring the issue, I'll take to mean something a little more exciting: there's more in store for Children's Week than we think this year. Which isn't much of a surprise: we already know that there'll likely be a Gurloc and a Wolvar orphan added to the game (along with pets for each of those groups), and there's no mention of any quests involving those guys on the PTR yet. The original complaint in the forum was about "good" RP characters having to do evil things for achievements (haven't we made it plenty clear that achievements are optional?), so maybe we'll even see some more quests for all kinds of players.
At any rate, expect new things to do during this year's Children's Week. We're sure Kisirani and her team are dreaming up all kinds of crazy things for us.

I'd love to be able to "adopt" and keep my orphan even after the Children's day. Those kids are cute!
Emma Marie Mar 18th 2009 9:18AM
I know it! The little blood elf girl is adorable. Probably evil, but adorable.

Yes I love her and being father I'd love the idea of questing with my son near :)

Wow, you're reading way more into that comment than I did...
Gessilea Mar 18th 2009 10:28AM
Yeah, I didn't read that much into it either.
That said, I think the holidays have been getting better and better. Go Kisirani!
Axolotl Mar 18th 2009 9:22AM
Of course these new kids will require a repgrind in each faction just to be able to get them, and it'll probably take two years to collect both :-/

As long as the new achievements don't involve that damn RNG....
Ves Mar 18th 2009 9:24AM
I don't see how this has anything to do with new Children's Week content. Someone complained about the existance of an achievement that's already been removed on the PTR, and Bornak pretends that it never existed to begin with.
Also, calling it now that Daily Chores will be in some way nerfed or removed from the Meta.

I love the events and children's week is up there at the top! I've wished I could keep the little child too, so very very cute.

I sincerely hope that the Oracles/Wolvar children are not related to the reputation you currently have with them. After getting everything from the egg and exalted with the Oracles, I moved onto the Frenzyheart for the brew.
That said, I like the oracles much better; they're so cute, and I will always look fondly on the little fellows. I miss chasing shinies. : (

Keeping the childs .....
I see how you figure the kid/parent relationship, kids are not the sort of thing you can summon whenever you want !!!
I'll find this horrible if some can have a kid as PET !!!!!
my two coppers ....
Axolotl Mar 18th 2009 10:19AM
If they can make cats summonable, then kids should be even easier to summon :D
Too bad kids cannot be targetted for attacks in WOW, who dares claim that the world in WOW is worse than real life ...
borgman Mar 18th 2009 9:59AM
there is no such thing as a "good" character in wow:
we poach
me murder
sometimes attempt genocide
assasinate people
torture people
steal
really if you have leveled upo in wow your character is not good they are an evil person.

You don't have to take and complete every quest in the game.
I once heard of a player who'd never killed a single mob, also some play characters that only fist fight, it's reasonable to assume their victims are not even killed, just ko'd.
Also RP'ers can twist anything to be justified in many ways.... that's really rather what they do.
Afterall, it's not murder if you were told to do it by your leader... and your the winning side...
It's also possible to level up in groups without hurting anyone, possibly just healing. :) So i disagree.

I never did understand the concept of taking an orphan under my care into combat, let alone a battleground.
Shouldn't the event be more about taking orphans to see parts of the world they would otherwise never get to see, and less about subjecting children to the brutalities of war?
Aracross Mar 18th 2009 10:34AM
No. Or they'll get farmed.
Kakistocracy Mar 18th 2009 1:38PM
Don't soldiers on the front line celebrate take your kid to work day?
And would you take that opportunity from a child whose parents are dead?
Balius Mar 18th 2009 10:34AM
I look forward to using my leash on my yearly orphan, just to cement home the children as pets thing.

First and foremost: You people are reading WAY TOO MUCH into a WOW-world event. Seriously, deflate that "my god, this is catering to deviants" argument before somebody pops it and everybody takes splash damage from all that hot air.
So yes, of course there is a difference between being able to summon and unsummon an orphan in game and real childcare, its so bloody obvious that the only thing that concerns me is that fact that you pointed it out. And lets face it, some people do terrible things with piccolo flutes in WOW. But I digress.
I always practiced a kind of "storm in-dust off" approach to nannying, being on a PVP server. I rode into the place, let the kid see what he wanted and sped off again before the 20-something rogues camping the spots (and each other) had a chance to even think about unstealthing. With the new and slightly worrying achievements I'll probably hone this skill to an art form.
But I primarily summoned and unsummoned so often because I felt sorry for the kid, what with him/her having to jog behind my mount all the time, despite the blasted wolf obviously having enough room for two. Heck, judging from the size of the kids, I could comfortably seat 2-4 of them on each of my shoulderpads and still have room for a travel-fridge.
