The problem with blizzard and rogues is they don't like the burst damage. They don't want fights over quickly. So the changes to combat reflect where they want the class to go which is longer sustained damage.
Which is exactly what rogues are not. Rogues can't take the hits and when you make fights drag out longer they lose. They just don't have the tools, the armor to survive a long fight against a plate class.
You can't put them on equal footing with other classes because they are simply not designed for that.

It's not just Blizzard. I've never been with a girl who loved my 'burst damage' more than sustained DPS. But your mileage may vary.

My rogue can easily kill most classes 1vs1 if I use all my cooldowns. Sure, you can't go toe to toe but rogues are not meant to do that. They are meant to be sneaky and that means Blinding and Restealthing or Vanishing and starting over. It's not perfect but definitely easier than some classes.

Of course that's what they are supposed to be. But blizzard has nerfed the burst and is pushed the longer sustained damage. They have said they don't like the burst.
They are not meant to go toe to toe. But that is the direction blizzard is pushing them.

I think blizzard missed an opportunity there. They could have done fast daggers for PvE and slow for PvP. I think that would have given them a bit more room to keep the two aspects separate for the assassination rogue spec. As it stands they're going for the whole can't do one thing because it affects the other stance that are plaguing the class as a whole. A spotlight also now enjoyed by ret paladins. Hopefully not to end up as bad as frost mages.
