WoW Moviewatch: World of Warcraft: Lost Within
Warning: Mild cursing at the end.
Do you remember BroncoTV? They're the same guys who created Who's the Tank? Michael Schroeder dropped your intrepid Moviewatch team a note to let us know they've released a new video -- World of Warcraft: Lost Within. To sum up the plot, a WoW player finds himself transported inside the game. He must quest, grow, and ding, all en route to rescue his princess.
It's definitely a WoW vs. reality theme. The gags are suitably funny, and I found the acting to be over-the-top in the right places. (The gag at the end worked for me, I think in part because I knew it was coming. C'mon, who hasn't tried to whack someone with a plastic sword, only to be sorely disappointed with the effect?)
I really liked the WoW interface laying over top of Live Action acting. It gave a neat surreality to the comedy, and kept me firmly rooted in the escapist joke. Of course, if there's a part two, it'd be neat to see some UI Mods and such start making appearance. (Maybe an Omen Kiss meter or something.)
If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.

Cool vid, but it's actually been out for quite some time(minus the interface in the dream)

Did I just miss the "NSFW" warning? There's some swearing at the end that some of my co-workers probably could have done without :(
Elmo Mar 20th 2009 12:33PM
If they can't stand a fuck or a shit then they should move to the South pole or grow up, it's impossible to avoid swearing these days.
just heard a few and I'm listening Public radio (paid from our taxes really)
Nick Mar 20th 2009 12:38PM
Or you know, you should probably WORK at work instead of browsing WoWinsider.
Jagoex Mar 20th 2009 12:58PM
Elmo, you must live in a very sad environment if you cannot keep away from swear words. I do a fine job of it, for my daughter's sake, because of the negative perception it still has. Just because you and your peers don't think it's a big deal doesn't mean your opinion is THE opinion.
This should carry a NSFW warning, for individuals who indeed have downtime at work and can browse the web freely. =)

I have no issue with it personally. People browse the internet at work, thats the whole reason websites created the "NSFW" warning. I've seen it on WI several times before. It's a courtesy. Some of you must either don't work, or work in non-professional environment where casually swearing is ok. Here and at several companies I've worked at, that's just not ok.

Elmo - it's not impossible to avoid it. You just don't want to. And it's because of that reason that certain words have become "acceptable"; however, the words that you used in your post are not acceptable in ANY public environment or else we'd hear them on daytime television and "G" rated movies. It isn't Ikarus that needs to grow up, nor Ikarus' coworkers. Rather, it's you.
Nick - you've never heard of paid breaks or lunch time before?
Elmo Mar 20th 2009 2:57PM
I don't consider my environment sad.
I work as a gardener when I or one of my colleagues hurts his hand or is pissed at something, strong words fly all over the place, it's just we do pick our words.
anything sex or feces related is fine.
any disease or religious swear is crossing the line really as people actually have a reason to be offended by it.
During day time hours it's not odd to hear songs like 'Fuck You' from Lilly Allen or some uncensored hiphop on public radio
Maybe I shouldn't have said grow up but rather something along the lines of accept the world as it is and stay relaxed.
Also it may be a cultural difference about what words can be accepted, I'm not American (and I suspect you are)

"GANKED!"
priceless

I enjoyed watching the video...but I felt it was missing...something the whole time.
Running around was good, but he went off the road. And when we move off the road...
Aggro....aggro...aggro...
Soon enough, you have thousands of little enemies following you. If he was a "good" WoW player (moral and sensible, not skillful), he would kill every single beast to get to his prize. If he was a rogue (which I don't think he was) or if he was a "bad" player...he'd still have thousands of enemies running behind him.
This movie couldn't possibly do that, although the random killings were kinda interesting. But I still am trying to imagine what kind of enemies he would be fighting on his way (maybe he could've knocked over a keg or brought the "ale" to a fraternity and the fraternities rush after him...).
Triptothane Mar 20th 2009 12:50PM
Dude, haha. funny.
Seriously though, couldn't you have gone without stealing The Guild's theme song? I mean there's a million or more songs out there to choose from, you just had to steal the Guild's?
You deserved to be hit with a beer can.
Now send me your gold and close your account. No res for you.

a little context, the end is pretty funny because at santa clara (where it was filmed) there are tons of squirrels and they are fearless! So chasing the squirrel seems a bit more appropriate.
It was fun for me to see all the buildings again and know where each shot took place, but i'll join the general concensus that it was lacking something. Maybe some more effects could flesh it out.
-You could easily make "charge" possible by speeding just him up as he charges towards one of his targets.
-A superimposed Yellow exclamation point over the bums head, and a question mark on return.
All in all i think the "dream sequence" can get very fun and interesting with some well used (read: not overused) effects to build it out. Considering we're coming from a fantasy game to RL there are tons of things to go for aside from just the super imposing of the UI.

SERIOUS QUESTION FOR WOWINSIDER:
Why does every single video you link posted on youtube become "no longer available" in as little as an hour after the article posts? please fix or tell posters to upload their stuff at a better hosting website.
