WoW Moviewatch: World of Warcraft: Lost Within
Warning: Mild cursing at the end.
Do you remember BroncoTV? They're the same guys who created Who's the Tank? Michael Schroeder dropped your intrepid Moviewatch team a note to let us know they've released a new video -- World of Warcraft: Lost Within. To sum up the plot, a WoW player finds himself transported inside the game. He must quest, grow, and ding, all en route to rescue his princess.
It's definitely a WoW vs. reality theme. The gags are suitably funny, and I found the acting to be over-the-top in the right places. (The gag at the end worked for me, I think in part because I knew it was coming. C'mon, who hasn't tried to whack someone with a plastic sword, only to be sorely disappointed with the effect?)
I really liked the WoW interface laying over top of Live Action acting. It gave a neat surreality to the comedy, and kept me firmly rooted in the escapist joke. Of course, if there's a part two, it'd be neat to see some UI Mods and such start making appearance. (Maybe an Omen Kiss meter or something.)

So this movie is quite bad, not actually like WoW, which is disappointing because both the "hero" and the bum either play WoW currently or have played WoW.
BTW the bum plays Skaarson on US Destromath Horde

I felt that this movie had the potential to be really awesome, but it entierly didn't work.
There were no representations of actual abilities found in warcraft, how was that a live action warrior? It was portrayed more like some street thug randomly killing people than in a wow-meets-reaity sort of deal.
And how often do we save princesses and kiss them in the end in WoW? We get gold and gear from quests, that could've been represented and given the video one of the things it was lacking.
Overall, in my opinion, it wasn't like wow meets the real world, it was more like somewow addicted kid's mary sue dream. I thought the concept (real life overlaid UI) was very, very good, it just fell flat.

the video was orginally lacking the ui overlay and is made more as a funny video about rpgers in general rather that being wow specific

That was worth it for the squirrel chasing behind the credits.

The UI overlay didn't really work for this (and I know that it was released previously without it). What would have worked with a UI overlay would have been if there was also a gauntlet mouse icon controlling the movements, but this would have required a new movie shot from a 3rd person perspective.
Still, I thought it was a clever and entertaining movie to round out my week :-)

Maybe its just me but I didn't find a guy running through a school campus randomly slashing at / killing RL people (even though its only a dream / fiction / whatever) to be funny, amusing or even remotely entertaining.
