Blizzard rolls out new Battle.net accounts

They're remarkably easy to sign up for if you haven't already, and once you have one, you can start adding games. For non-WoW games, you'll need your CD keys (I had my D2 keys handly, but alas, I can't find my Starcraft or Warcraft III CD keys, which sort of bums me out). For WoW games, you'll just need your old account number and password. When your WoW account is in, you'll start signing in with the Email and password you use for your Battle.net account.
What's the advantage of signing up for these new accounts? To start, you get easy access direct download for all games you have tied to the account. Also, if you have multiple WoW accounts tied to one battle.net login, you can sign in with your battle.net account and choose which WoW account you want to access from a list, which, at the least, means fewer passwords to remember. Finally, you won't have to be sad like me if you can't find your CD keys: They'll be automatically tied into the account.
There's more features to come, of course. Zarhym specifically mentions the possibility of crossover communication between Blizzard games, and there's always the possibility of other functionality as well. I'm all for account-wide achievements, myself. A special WoW pet for defeating Diablo 3 on Hell mode? Yes please!

Can't believe I missed out on a Penguin :( Penguins rock.
tchernobyl Mar 21st 2009 2:14PM
the penguin was only during the WOTLK beta and they did not stick, unfortunately :(
it was pengu anyways, which you can now get from tuskaar rep on live servers.
dinosoar Mar 21st 2009 2:38PM
Actually the penguin you recieved from converting your account was not Pengu. He was called Chilly and had a different appereance.
tchernobyl Mar 21st 2009 2:51PM
hm. now that i think of it, you're right. it didn't have pengu's downright evil red eyes and horns >_>
Codexx Mar 24th 2009 4:36AM
they haven't been nice enough to give them back to us on the live servers.
*cry*

the EU WoW merging not available >
aman Mar 21st 2009 2:47PM
It isn't sending me an e-mail verification e-mail. :(
Yes, I checked and rechecked that I correctly typed my e-mail address, and looked in the spam folder several times.
nick Mar 21st 2009 4:20PM
I'm not getting an email either : \
Aaron Mar 21st 2009 2:49PM
Um has anyone from EU been able to use the new Battle.net yet? The site apparently says WoW accounts are merged with battle.net and will get an email informing your new details so you don't need to sign up for a new account, but I've yet to get one and don't have a clue what email address and password to use.
A lot of misinformation about this, or EU is being slow as usual...?
Tumleren Mar 21st 2009 5:36PM
You can sign up for Battle.net account, but since you can't merge Battle.net with WoW yet (for EU), you have to login to stuff like WoW acc. management with your WoW account-email - NOT your Battle.net account name.
Don't know why you're not getting an auth mail, I got mine instantly

What this brings to mind is a much worse situation than before when someone gets a key-logger.
kesherz Mar 21st 2009 3:21PM
This is why I use an Authenticator.

k well my question is what if the last name on the battle.net account and a wow account last name don't match up. is it a trap where they will ban accounts that don't match up...
Arashikou Mar 21st 2009 6:20PM
I can't imagine why they would ban those accounts. But for what it's worth, my wife is in this situation and has had no trouble so far. (She joined WoW before we were married, so her WoW account was in her maiden name and her Battle.net account is in her married name.) In fact, once you link the accounts, the contact info section, including your real name, is removed from the WoW account page, so they may not even have that info anymore.
Lapsus Mar 21st 2009 7:23PM
Hmmm interesting. so the accounts i link auto change to my name?
Arashikou Mar 22nd 2009 2:56AM
I haven't seen anything official saying that, and it may be that they still have the info but just aren't showing it. It's not that the WoW account shows my wife's married name; it does not show that info at all and instead has a link to her Battle.net account, which shows the new name, since that's what she signed up for the Battle.net account as. But the answer to your original question is that the name mismatch was not a problem when linking the accounts.
Andre Kemmeren Mar 21st 2009 3:10PM
I only wonder one thing, are we still able to log in 2 of our own accounts in at the same time?
I think we do but because it's combined under 1 blizz account I'm not sure.
Zeplar Mar 21st 2009 3:18PM
Good question. Does it ask for you account name when you log in with a blizzard account?
Tremelizzer Mar 21st 2009 6:07PM
Yes you can still play with several accounts same time even they were converted into one Battle.net account. Actually, reading FAQs can sometimes be pretty useful.
Hogg Mar 21st 2009 3:21PM
I got this right from the battle.net faq
How do I log in if I've merged multiple World of Warcraft accounts?
After you log in to World of Warcraft using the Battle.net account, you will be prompted to select which of the merged World of Warcraft accounts you wish to play. Players with multiple World of Warcraft accounts are still able to log in and play them simultaneously.
