Vin Diesel plays WoW. Probably.
Reader Nick tipped us to this one -- Fast and Furious actor Vin Diesel had a guest appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, where he alludes to playing World of Warcraft. While he plays coy about any details about the character(s) he plays, an interesting part comes when popular British host Ross reveals that his wife plays a green, Spectral Tiger-riding Level 80 character. Diesel gets up to shake Ross' hand at the mention of this, and proceeds to some helium-induced hilarity.
It shouldn't be a huge surprise that Diesel actually plays that game, considering that he's known to be a hardcore gamer and even wrote the foreword to the D&D 30th Anniversary retrospective coffee table book. In fact, he leads the discussion from D&D to World of Warcraft by saying that games nowadays are MMOs. This should corroborate what baseball player Curt Schilling has mentioned in a past interview about Diesel playing WoW. It would've been interesting to learn his class and faction (rumors say his character's name is Dish), but I guess players will just have to find that out another day. Maybe if he talks over vent, his Iron Giant voice should give him away...

I bet he plays a Tauren Warrior
Ogre Mar 21st 2009 1:10PM
Close, Tauren Shaman. He revealed that before to some other interviewer, forgot who. (He's resto fyi) I'll grant he's actually a game a pretty huge nerd, he's got the name of his D&D character tatooed onto his back after he played the same character for fifteen years before it was killed off.

Vin Diesel FTW.

The warm feeling I get when someone is thoughtful enough to say thank you for having been helped far outweighs the empty one I get when there's no feedback at all.

Vin Diesel eh?
He's too cool to be an alliance, and too cool to be a Blood Elf. So hes definately Orc, or maybe Tauren. As for the class I'd say Warrior or Hunter

Which just goes to show, Vin is just about the coolest guy on the planet. Though that was originally affirmed for me when I found out that in the movie XXX the tattoo on his stomach was the name of his D&D character.
It really just doesn't get any better than that.

I don't really understand the commotion around celebrities admitting that they play video games. It's not like they're forbidden to. They're human, and have the same interests as you and I do.
This is probably the old fogey in me, but I much preferred the days when gaming was the domain of the geek back before blinged-out pimped out Xboxes, and every famous rapper and their brother having a game with their face plastered all over it.

Just so I don't come off as a TOTAL dick, the video was still hilarious.

Dude, he's an old school D&D player, I think that gives him plenty of "geek cred."
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised since WoW has 11-12million players. Props to him for discussing his inner nerd on national TV, not sure I could do it.

@the Grinch - If you weigh some 300 lbs. and look like you can bench press and elephant, star in movies where you defeat world-enslaving races and drive mean cars, and have a deep voice fit for a badass robot -- I think you can pretty much admit to geekdom with impunity.

I really sort of agree with you on this. However, you can also consider that in an age where you have celebrities becoming 'poser gamers' so that they can appeal to that group of people its sort of a piece of mind issue to know that there are people that really are just like us out there in all walks of life, be they actors, athletes, or politicians.
But ultimately I look at an article like this and say "Cool." and then move on.

Haha, well put.
I've always loved Vin Diesel, not only for Pitch Black and the fact that he's an unabashed nerd, but also for putting his time, effort and money into trying to make a Hannibal movie.
And not psychopathic, beat-to-death Hollywood Hannibal, but taking war elephants over the friggin' Alps and attacking the Romans with no supply chain Hannibal.
I've been waiting for that movie for years and I really hope he gets to make it.

I'm not entirely positive, but I believe Vin was actually in the WoW Beta- back when Shammys could spec to wear Plate- so this isn't one of those "Now that 10 million people play.." bandwagon deals. Srsbsns.
Also, let it be known that Mr.Diesel's D&D character was Melkor, a Drow Witchhunter, has been playing since the 70s, and has more than once referred to D&D as the "training ground for imagination."

Another celebrity in the books. Go, Vin!
Krakish Mar 21st 2009 10:20AM
Well, Draenai are built like him. But I'd bed he's something like a gnome rogue or warlock.
