New Crusader Strike is in the works

The bad news is that this change isn't going to happen. Ghostcrawler was quick to prevent mass hysteria by saying that this change will not make it into Patch 3.1. This thankfully saves the world from an epidemic of Retribution Paladin players dancing naked on the streets in ecstatic celebration. He says that they are merely experimenting and that they wish to make Crusader Strike "more exciting," but ultimately feel that some sort of reverse Mortal Strike wasn't the way to go about it. Crushed Retribution hopes and dreams aside, the good news is that Crusader Strike is going to be improved. Blizzard is working on it, and the change sneaking unintentionally into the PTR gives players a sneak peek into the developers' thought process. Even if we don't see the change happen in Patch 3.1, I think it's safe to say that Retribution Paladins have something to be excited about. The rest of you who play another class, you can put down your pitchforks now.

Seriously. Just what we need, another anti-caster melee PvP ability.
Why doesn't Blizz just let casters have a little bit of melee abilities? It's clear that casting=fail in PvP. Would it hurt that much if the mage that takes 3.5 seconds to swing that big ol' staff could actually DO some damage with it?
Chamual May 21st 2009 6:44PM
That would be pretty cool, mages and priests could have a spell that imbued their melee weapon with fire\ice\holy damage for a single heavy strike.
Lightrider Mar 24th 2009 12:54AM
As a raiding ret pally I must say, woo hoo(!)...
I'm sure all us PvE ret pallys will love this(!)
I'm sick of bliz focusing on PvP and if you don't think they are, go have a look where we are getting a frost drake from...
slartibart Mar 24th 2009 1:22AM
I think you meant to say "where I'm not getting a frost wrym"
(Neither am I for that matter, but I don't have that big an issue with it)
Lemons Mar 24th 2009 4:09PM
Yea, shut up. All the other cool mounts in the game come from PvE content so stop QQing, it's getting old.
Besides, I'm sure there will be a frost wyrm attainable through raiding/achievements in a future patch for all you PvE carebears who have never seen the inside of their own WSG flag room.

Odd to say that Mortal Strike bit, since Warriors are getting it in two forms. The usual MS and the same ability that we were supposed to get right here.
Seriously, warriors are the spoiled little babies of this game. Have you seen them on the forums? They're making a ruckus as though the game was ending just because they had one bad season in arena, while ret paladins had four of them and this is the first time they've actually had a chance for a while.
So, warriors, shut your holes and stop bitching.
AxisOfJustice Mar 24th 2009 1:45PM
Maybe if you have played a warrior in bg, people would view you as something other than a nerd-raging idiot. But please, keep rambling about a class you have no clue about.
You strike me as one of those retardins with a serious case of unwarranted self-entitlement, who seriously think you won't be OP if Blizz decides to one day give you a MS, spell interrupt, an intercept, and a snare.
Dude Mar 24th 2009 6:14AM
Another prick tease from Blizz. The last one promised was a pony.

Unrelenting Assault: Now also increases the damage of Overpower and Revenge by 10/20%, and causes Overpower (when used to attack a casting target) to decrease the effectiveness of all the target's non-physical damage and healing by 25/50% for 6 seconds. Tooltip and visual updated.
From the last ptr patch. They gave paladins a less useful version of what warriors got, WHERE WAS THE OUTRAGE WHEN A WARRIOR GOT IT?
I am sick and tired of paladins getting more attention than warriors.
lightningjynx Mar 24th 2009 9:21AM
but have you also noticed that our 51 pt talent is a complete knockoff of whirlwind, an ability every warrior gets at level 36. So um yeah, I know we were completely OMGWTFBBQ for less than a week, but I am really starting to get tired of this rhetoric about Retadins being completely OP. If we are that amazing of a class, reroll one and see what it's like.
Michael Mar 24th 2009 9:26AM
While my paladin is my alt, I do love to play him. The one thing that may be remotely OP is our bubble. Giving warriors a way to break the bubble is BA and should immediately stop all QQ about how OP paladins are.
But, of course, it will not stop. It never will it seems. And yes, ret is pooped on in both pve and pvp, the QQ is because idiots can not tell the difference when pvping. If you will notice the ret paladin in your bg is the one that dies all the time, on the other hand, I seem to have a decent time when I go prot for pvp.

It is quite interesting to know that the devs are working on CS.
First it was in wow beta ( the original - http://thottbot.com/s14517), removed a few weeks prior to release, introduced a few wks prior to TBC as a shadow of its former self , nerfed from 6 secs cd to 10 secs, brought back to 6 again half a yr later ...
IDK, I guess paladin class development is rocket science and can't be done in 4 yrs. I do know that it was terribad when TC was in the driving seat.
The point is the paladin class / ret tree has had the worst development cycle of all classes in WoW, 4 yrs gaddamit!
Anyone or anything QQing about ret [now we are being fixed] takes a massive L.
Heres hoping GC makes CS worthy of 41 talent pts.

I view Ret pallies about the same way I view those friends just starting college and still going after highschool girls... yea you could do it when you were young (IE lvling) but one you're an adult (IE 80) you really should start aiming for adults, and as a pally you have 2 choices, go with the easy attainable women (holy) or the harder to get but more attractive women (prot)
and yea its gaythat warriors are gonna be able to pop your bubble, so I'd support you getting a revers mortal strike... still not gonna make you good
ret pallies are mroe or less like DK's yea there are a few good ones but they are overshadowed by the 97% of players who play them terribly

Well, that effect might not make it into the live realms, but im glad the BLizz team is considering this and ANY changes to CS; why? because as any pally knows, its bloody boring, its just an instant strike, no added effects, not even decent damage.
The community has thrown many different ideas on how to make it cooler, from adding MS from here to hell ( dont like it), to make it something more interactive, like "If CS hits a target standing on Consecration, it has X effect", or something like "If the target is moving, its dazed for X seconds, if not, can interrupt spellcasting". which would be very good at covering some of the spec weaknesses on both pve and pvp.
Baluki Mar 24th 2009 7:13PM
50% for 6 seconds seems way too high. Besides, I already have enough problems taking down a paladin; they don't need to make it take 2x longer. Personally, I think 15% reduction on the next spell cast would be fair.

Crusader Strike - An instant strike that causes 110% weapon damage. In addition Crusader Strike has 100% chance of dealing Seal of Command damage.
Crusader Strike - An instant strike that causes 110% weapon damage. In addition Seal of Command damage from Crusader Strike will have a 100% chance of being a critical hit.
Crusader Strike - An instant strike that causes 110% weapon damage. Crusader Strike increases the chance of dealing Seal of Command damage by 50% for 5 secs.
Crusader Strike - An instant strike that causes 110% weapon damage. Crusader Strike has a 25% chance of increasing Seal of Command damage by 25% for the next 5 secs.
Making Seal of Command used more in pvp (arenas in general)over Seal of Blood.
