The only problem that exists is the fact that the ONLY reason to go to the old world is for the auction houses.
I would love to see an mini-expansion of sorts that polishes up the old world and adds content that makes it relevant to the endgame. If level 80's regularly traveled around all of Azeroth's continents, the auction houses could stay where they are and yet no longer be "out of the way."

If Blizz put a portal Mage in each major city, hell, make the mage portal trainer offer to port people between cities for gold, I would be happy.
I use a bank alt, which is functionally an exploit (using something to go around how Blizz wants you to do something). Once my toons hit the trainer the final time, I never go back to the oldworld.
Blizz is being pig headed about it. If they want people to 'hang out' in the old world, give us a method of travel. I would rather hang out in TB than Daralan anyway. But as I am not a mage, having to burn my Hearthstone just to hang out there is ridiculous.
From a 'reality' check standpoint. We have portals to every battleground. We have portals to Shatt. We have teleporters from Silverymoon to UC, etc. Why on Azeroth wouldn't the Horde/Alliance invest in a Portal from their major cities to their new offensive fronts?

Further, you could have auction houses (neutral or faction) in places like Dalaran and Shattrath without fear of the old cities becomming ghost towns.

They keep saying they won't go back and work on (improve) existing content, but they don't want it left behind either. You can't have it both ways.
They need to give high levels a reason to come back instead of trying to keep them from leaving.

Agreed. I suppose they're trying to accomplish this by making a number of the world events (e.g., Hallows, Lunar Festival, Midsummer) require that you travel to various old world places but ... just blasting from FP to FP is hardly "content relevant to the endgame".

It would be so nice to have portals in the major cities to send you BACK to the expansion areas. Make them check to make sure you have the expansion, and possibly a level-check if they want to keep lowbies out of Dalaran.
I just don't see why there are portals to everywhere from Dalaran, and portals to everywhere but Dalaran from Shattrath, and no portals anywhere else. It doesn't make any sense to me. Why are the portals one-way?

People also go to old world cities to escape the sometimes ugly lag in the latest big cities. Maybe this is one way to spread players around. But then again whats the point of having us blow our hearthstones or plan our AH visits like its some huge event?
Sure sure use banker alts, but its still a hassle loggin off if you're in a group.
Blizzard really knows how to be a p.i.t.a for sure.

This is what was so cool about kara back in the day. It was a max level raid, but it was still in vanilla. I hope the "secret raid" in 3.2 is located somewhere in the old world.

Strongly argee with the OP.
Blizzard shot themselves in the foot on this. I really had hoped WotLK didn't increase the level cap, so now Outlands is just an empty as Azeroth.
If the Sunwell Isl is to ever be visited again, they'll need a two way portal there. Why only one way portals?
I still remember the good ole days where Silithus was opened up for the first time...lvl 60's were dotted all around Azeroth from Winterspring, Felwood, Desolance to Ungoro.
Now that they increased the lvling speed, I think it's safe to say 50% of Azeroth is never ever visited.

As a mage, it's not inconvenient to go back to the old world, I do so only for the AH because of the many beggars in town. I know - I should go to Exodar instead of SW but I know the latter pretty well, so just end up going there.
But once there, while shopping in the AH or at the mail box (to get things I bought or checking mail in the beginning of the day if I logged there) I get whispered for "can I plz have 5 g?" or "can u run me through BRD?" Some of them are very persistent. I also get a lot of requests for ports (which is understandable for the above reasons) but can get to be a bit intrusive when it happens over and over. (Though I admit, most people are pretty generous with tips).
Checking mail, banking (and I'd imagine, the normal AH if they had one) in Dalaran is a whole different story. Peaceful. :)
