Upper Deck has officially
released the latest expansion in the
WoW Trading Card Game -- the Blood of Gladiators is the game's
eighth expansion set (can you believe this game has been around for three years already?), and features new PvP action, including a new Duel Faction Ally card and a new Arena setting in the Gurubashi Arena. There are three new characters in the game as well, coming straight from the pages of the
World of Warcraft comic, with art by none other than Jim Lee. And of course it's
got the loot cards we talked about earlier, including the Foam Swords rack and the Sandbox Tiger. Can't wait to see those in the game.
Booster packs from the set run about $4 in most places, though demand for the game can actually
drive the prices up at retail if store owners feel they're running out too fast. Seems like, at this point, the
WoW TCG has its fans, and the online game does as well, and sometimes the two are not the same people. Anyone been waiting for this release, or, eight times in, is yet another expansion set actually business as usual in the collectible card game?

I actually started with the TCG and moved to the MMO later.
I love the card game. It's great fun, especially the raid decks.

I'm almost the same way, I was playing the MMO when I started the TCG, but it did get me to play a rogue, and my rogue is now my main

Same with me. Used to get together at the card store for MC and Ony raid nights lol.
But sadly interest in the TCG game died out in my area, so I bought the MMORPG and raided BT instead =)

Although not a big fan of playing the tcg game, buying packs and reselling can end up being profitable, especially loot cards :D

I used to play, but there wasn't a whole lot of people in my area to play with.
Plus I don't have any money

Back in my day, MTG was releasing expansions once a year, tops. You young'ns with your 8-sets-in-3-years!
Mattimus Mar 25th 2009 9:24PM
Isn't Magic releasing like... 5 expansions a year now?
Firestride Mar 25th 2009 9:27PM
Yes, they also are. I didn't mean to exclude them from the current orgy of expansion releases.
Hoggersbud Mar 26th 2009 1:52AM
Once a year?
Magic has never released less than 2 expansions a year.

Wikipedia places Ice Age in June 1995, with the followup, Alliances, not coming out until June 1996. However, 1994 did in fact see a number of releases. But I literally came into the game (for the first time) just before Ice Age came out, so I assumed that was representative of the way it was back then.
I'm so glad I just looked that up.

Yes, Homelands was snuck in between the two, in October of 95.
But we try to forget Homelands.
It was once part of the Ice Age Block. Now it's not. But it still came out between Ice Age and Alliances.

He's right! Darn Wizards of the Coast and their relentless rearranging of the past! And darn Wikipedia for buying into it when arranging its tables!

I don't play the card game, but I do hope they do another book with the card art. Some lovely pieces in there.

So Frustrated! I got a sandbox tiger and I can't turn him in! (Actually, I got 3.) The guy in STV doesn't have the set yet! Woe!

I buy the cards to collect the art of my favorite race (goats, naturally). The game itself is actually pretty fun, but I don't get to play very often as I don't have many local friends who get them. I just got the Sandbox Tiger this time around.

I'd love to go back to TCG collecting (I still have plenty of MTG and Star Wars cards, and a couple of other games, too), but I just don't have the money. It's almost worth it for the loot cards, though.

I've been eagerly anticipating this set for quite a while. I get the feeling my guild are too, as I tend to give them the loot codes and UDE points for the epic tabards.
It truly is a great card game and if anyone is remotely curious, I do suggest they check it out at their local card/hobby store.
Am hoping the new set heralds the return of Daspien to the meta.

I used to play this TCG when the first set came out, it convinced me to try the MMOG, I then traded my cards strategically (uncommons for rare and then rare cards for epics) and sold the lot on Ebay, made all my investments back and enough money leftover to pay for the MMO several years to come AND make a trip to Blizneyland Resort Paris

First BoG pack opened, top card... "Poof!"
Well, I never! :O How do they know?
/wink
