WoW Moviewatch: Dude, Where's My Mount? Episode 9
Warning: Not safe for work, due to vulgar language and sexual innuendo.
Apt T Productions has released the new installment of the DWMM series: Dude Where's My Mount? -- Episode 9. Ah, good ol' DWMM. This is one of my favorite WoW machinima series, but also the one I'm almost starting to fear seeing each time.
The production quality of DWMM is absolutely perfect for its scope. DWMM is basically a long series of gags, one liners, and sitcom-like comedy. It really is damned funny. In the opening of Episode 9, there's a boat floating in lava. It's a quick sight gag, but I laughed. And then one of the characters is shown fleeing a pack of squirrels, screaming "They're like furry raptors!" Funny stuff. The voice actors now do a great job, and I can't imagine changing anything about that.
But, having said that, some of the jokes are making me wince more and more. This episode takes place, largely, in a strip club called "Tigole Bitties." I thought that kind of thing was funny once, I guess, but not so much nowadays. The racial jokes, the boob jokes, and the whole objectification angle kind of makes this whole episode a guilty pleasure, at best. Now, I'm not trying to get into a rant about this stuff, because there's nothing I can say that would convince anyone of anything they don't already believe. But I will say, wincing over and over did detract from my enjoyment of the series, and I feel like that's happening more each episode.

I was able to watch it. And god to I love this series. One of my all time favorites. Phil is so damn funny. Yet another great episode from the guys at DWMM.

Are you serious?? They manage to work a spoonerism into a double entendre to reference Kaplan... and you complain? I only wish the writing on the idiot box could get half that clever (I'd have called it the "boob tube" but would hate to offend your delicate sensibilities).
Considering the vast proportion of the target audience, I'd say they hit this nail pretty squarely on the head.

I'd have to agree with you on the boob tube part (A boob being, of course, an abbreviated word for a kind of water fowl and nothing else. No siree) given that I if I did mind that sort of humor I couldn't turn on the TV at all these days.

Come on, man! Blue humor is a staple of the genre, although I suppose you're one of those type RPing a Belf holding court over a "salon" of other Belfs, discussing "philosophy" and what to do about all the Bondage Vampires that have been taking over Silvermoon.

For those who may not know the background lore:
Jeffrey Kaplan at one time led the guild Legacy of Steel in EverQuest. They were known for their achievements in game, and Kaplan was apparently known for his strong opinions and willingness to express them. (Google him for some interesting stories.) His character was named "Tigole Bitties".
Yep. He's the former Blizzard world designer for WoW (now working on their unannounced MMO) who still goes by the moniker "Tigole" on the Blizzard fora.
The name of the club is more than just adolescent humor; it's the adolescent humor of one of the WoW/Blizzard big names.

I think "Tigole Bitties" is pretty clever! OP is just jaded and uptight.

alcohol tastes like fun! won't ruin it for anyone but the "song" half way through is priceless
hahaha love this series

I've never been a fan of the series. I 'get' the intent of the attempt at jokes, its just never been funny. Guess sophomoric attempts at humor using objectification and innuendo don't go well with racism, sexism, etc.
None of the actors have ever been that engaging either. Its as if between the voices, the characters' actions, and what is supposed to be happening in the scene never actually convince me. I'm caught between wincing when I'm paying attention, and yawning when I'm not.

Unfunny, sad, and trying to hard to be funny. I want my 3 minutes back.
Keyra Mar 25th 2009 2:24PM
One chuckle. That's it.
This series is old, tired, sad, sort of like how sequel after sequel most often ruins the original movie (can anyone say, "Superman 3"?) and that's how this series has become. Even going back to how it was when it first started couldn't save it.
End it here, find a new storyline, throw out the tired frat-boy humor and start afresh.

I love the series. But, recently they haven't been playing the original theme song. I miss that.
If you don't like the series quit watching it and QQ'ing in the comments.

The original theme song had to be removed, because Machinima didn't want to get sued.

I have up on this series a long time ago. I don't have the most sophisticated sense of humor (fart - jokes, still fun ;) but as a female the humor just got grating. Can't bother anymore. I think they are capable of better.
Dreyja Mar 25th 2009 5:58PM
oops - sorry that should be, "I GAVE up on," not , "have up on."
erg.

What was wrong with it? The average episode of Family Guy is 12x more raunchy than that. I'm not going to say I laughed my socks off, but it was pretty funny.
That said I'm impressed by this series. Most machinima authors put out an episode once every few months, but these guys are managing to make them with some regularity. I'm looking forward to future episodes mostly because the speed in which they made this one suggests I won't have died of old age before the next one is released.
Still waiting on ASV 7, Snacky's Journal 5, Illegal Danish 3, and the list goes on and on and on...
