Breakfast Topic: When did WoW click for you?
Surprisingly, yesterday's Breakfast Topic wasn't a flood of QQ as I'd initially feared. A lot of the posts were constructive, informative, and some were pretty well thought out. Admittedly some others were plain QQ, but you can't help that. Welcome to the Internet. Well, enough of the complaints. If you're reading WoW Insider, chances are you're playing the game and enjoying it. I know I am.
Vonya over at The Egotistical Priest is enjoying the game, too, and I'm kidnapping her question for this morning. She relates how WoW just suddenly became more than just a game to her while traipsing through the fungus-laden caverns of Maraudon. She also recalls seeing a Devilsaur for the first time (or not seeing it and getting totally eaten by it, more likely...). There are moments in this game where it became really special for us. I know the very first time I entered the Undercity I was completely enthralled... I'd never played an MMO before, and I fell completely in love with the wacky, Tim Burtonesque design of the Forsaken capital. I spent hours just ogling and it wasn't even at Sylvanas.
What was your moment? When did WoW become something special to you? When did the game reel you in? I know that our interest in this game waxes and wanes, but there was -- I'm certain of it -- a particular moment while playing where excitement and wonder coalesced, pushing World of Warcraft just a teensy bit over the definition of 'just another video game'. When did that happen for you? Oh, and yeah, that's a Whitney Houston video. You're welcome.

Yes indeed! My first toon was a Pally and when I finally got all the materials together and got the Fist it was a nice sense of accomplishment after having to go all over to collect everything and now I had this uber blue hammer to smashy smash with! It's still in the bank on that toon too :)

I think my first time in Hyjal was one of the "oh wow" moments, for sure.

Don't be that guy.

hyjal was definitely one of those moments. it felt oh-so-epic.
But my most memorable moment would have to be my very first flight as a level 10 druid from teldrassil to darkshore. I was so amazed that I was actually FLYING on a hippogryph, I took like 5000 screenshots in that one flight.

I think my second time in Hyjal was teh best.

Waking up pretty early in the morning during summer holidays, logging on WoW and exploring the awesome Feralas, I became totally lost in the game

Probably when I first started making friends in the game.

When did WoW click for me? Just minutes after hours of instaling multiple cd's and more hours of updates. I was hooked just watching my sister and her husband play and i'd always been addicted to rpg (zelda) games growing up. So, basically, from day one!

lol. Some of my favorite games were Street Fighter and especially legend of Zelda: a link to the past. I remember I used to play the latter over and over again... I wished there was more to explore and that it would never end. I also played runescape (ugh..) for a while, and just really liked the idea of it.
Then in comes WoW. I remember watching my friend play his 39 warlock (that lvl seemed so high back then lol) in WSG matches... and then I realized how much better this combat system was. Then I thought to myself "wow.. it's almost as if all of my favorite games had a sexy, sexy, orgy... made a baby... and then that orgy baby was on crack. This is WoW."

Yah, I got hooked watching my daughter and her husband play. It is my first MMO, and I have played since a couple weeks after launch.

Several I supose
For me it was the second day after wow was released and it seeing a hippogryth for the first time and thinking...wow I wannt ride one of those!
The first time when I clicked with hunters was when I was in grom gol and I killed an eliet mob 3 levels above me when I was lvl 40. I just loved my hunter so much after that point.
More recently when I started raiding again in Naxx and I did heigan the unlcean for hte first time...that was just mental and I loved dancing in phase two. It was just a point when I thought "yes this is why I like raiding"

I don't remember a precise moment when WoW just "clicked," it was more generalized than that.
Back during BC, I had already been playing half-assed since launch, I decided to switch servers and start fresh. I rolled my first Shaman, climbed up to 50s, as I had done many times before, not really caring much. It was around that time that I finally stopped and actually started reading the quest text, and I found myself empathizing with some of the stories in the Plaguelands. Without really meaning to, I found myself nodding to the quest givers and /crying at some of the more depressing moments, and generally treating the characters as I treated other players. I haven't been half-assed since.
The fact that my Shaman was also the first character I had that I got into a guild that matched my personality and play-style since I had started. I'm sure that helped... ^_^

"I spent hours just ogling and it wasn't even at Sylvanas"
Yes it was. Just admit it, like the rest of us.

I remember playing with some mates on day one as the Alliance and really enjoyed the low level experience of not knowing what the hell to do or where to go.
I dropped off and came back about a year later as Horde and got totally hooked into The Barrens. That area is phenomenol for first time players.

Upon entering Zangarmarsh, I realized that the zone was laden with lakes and large, beautiful fungi! Being an avid fisherman and mushroom hobbiest IRL, (not the hallucinogenic type, hippies can keep the psylocibes) I was absolutely awestruck. That place looks like paradise, nevermind the Ogres, Naga, and other swamp beasts. Coolest looking place in any game I have ever played. Happy fishing and shrooming!!

Either just the initial beauty and music just outside Darnassus as a level 1-3 Night Elf, or...
In Westfall, Harvest Reapers or Harvest Golems when I was a level 9 or 10 hunter and the friend that introduced me to WoW ran me into that dark scary field. It sounds ridiculous, but as those robotic monsters started chasing us down in a cornfield I remember my heart actually beating much faster than it should have been.

My first was way back when I first started playing. Getting into Shadowfang Keep for the first time with a pair of real life friends and a pair of strangers. Something about that instance (and all of silverpine) really struck a chord. It's still one of my favourite zones.

After grinding the first 10 or so levels in Dun Morogh on my dwarf I headed through the south passage into the Valley of Kings into Loch Modan.
The statues and the change of scenery was breathtaking

It pains me to think that I can't quite remember the first thing that got me x_x!
Though, everytime I go back to Nagrand after not being there for a long while, it always replenishes my love for the game for some reason. It's just everything about the zone, as you enter from Aldor rise, you're met with overgrown of grass and a beautiful sky, a small path and tons of mobs mostly unique to the area. On the path, it feels very humbling, almost too big for you to comprehend, but as you continue onward, you begin to see the various settlements, Burning Blade, Clan Watch and then the magnificant Telaar.
For some reason, I love that feeling of stepping into Nagrand, just enthrals me :3
