Breakfast Topic: Choosing the best mob noise in game
There's a fun little discussion on the forums right now about the best noise out of a mob in the game, and people have all kinds of different opinions. Among the many brilliant things Blizzard has done with World of Warcraft is the way their sound design makes each and every encounter with a mob very memorable, so that even if you're not paying close attention, you know a) when you've aggroed something, and b) what you've aggroed. We all know what a wolf growl sounds like, we know what it sounds like when the caster you're trying to sneak past starts casting (and many of us can probably tell what spell, just from the sound), and of course, probably most memorably, we all know what that gurgly murloc sound means, especially when you hear it in numbers.Lots of the best audio clips are actually from bosses (all of Molten Core's bosses were memorable, for some reason, and "Too soon!" has even reappeared in the game since). My personal favorite lately is the quote from Elder Nadox, the first boss in Ahn'Katet's Old Kingdom. He shouts an otherworldly phrase (apparently in Nerubian) and it ends with a "k-k-k-k-k" sound that must have been edited together -- it definitely doesn't sound human. Every time I hear that (and he says it a few times throughout the fight), I get the feeling that we are fighting something that is very, very old and very, very evil.
But of course lots of the audio cues help pull you into the game like that. What are some of your favorite mob noises in the game?

Geists are cool.
"NYAAAAAR-HA-HAAAAARRRR!"

Nielas Aran the best voice in this game.
Who are you? What do you want?! Stay away from me!
And when Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian is carried by a raid member:
Where did you get that?! Did HE send you??

Geists are awesome. If DK's could summon them instead of ghouls, I'd grab one in a heartbeat. Zombie Spider-Man Ninjas FTW.

The first ones that come to mind are the Vrykull ones. They're simply genius. "I'll eat your heart!!!" great stuff. :)
I also like the sounds some of the air or cold revenants make, the "wooshing wind" sounds and such. Pretty basic to make i guess but i definately noticed it when fighting them.

I love everything about the Vrykul, but the panto-swedish accents of the some of the female ones, particularly the poison seller in Brunnhildar village, is double awesome with extra awesome sauce.

Personally i just love and remember with fond memorys maiden and curator. Mind you i also love the trolls accents in ZA, and shed loads more too. Ironic really, as atm ive just build a pc and put it into Windows 7 beta (which works fine with WOW btw), Except for the fact windows 7 wont recognise or run my sound card at all, so atm ive been playing with NO sounds whatsoever.

Prince Malchezaar from kara by far. The whole fight is awesome with phrases like;
"All realities, all dimensions are open to me."
And im sure a fair amount of us have heard him week in week out with the 10 man being the only real initial source of epics to BC progression. Also, Shade of Iran is cool; "What have you done?!?! You'll ruin EVERYTHING!"
Unknown Mar 27th 2009 8:19AM
"You face not Malchezaar alone, but the legions I command! "
Awesome!

The Shade of Iran?
Khanmora Mar 27th 2009 9:15AM
My favorite noise in Kara was the little girly screams that came from Romulo, there's just nothing to beat that for laugh factor.
I still love going to SM just to hear, "Tell me, tell me everything... naughty secrets. I'll rip the secrets from your flesh!"
Kakistocracy Mar 27th 2009 1:38PM
Does the shade of Iran have something to do with the Ayatollah?

Nexus-Prince Shaffar
"What is this? You must forgive me, but I was not expecting company. As you can see, we are somewhat preoccupied right now. But no matter. As I am a gracious host, I will tend to you... personally. "
"I have such fascinating things to show you. "
I also liked the gnolls, out of some reason. Probably because I slaughtered thousands of em *coughs*
Shrike Mar 27th 2009 10:14AM
Another two votes (mine and my wife's) for Shaffar here.

I remember my first time hearing him. I was too distracted by his voice to pay attention to what was going on.
duskhawk Mar 27th 2009 8:23AM
"By fire be purged!"
A lot of times I'm playing with the sound turned down to hear stuff. (I've been surprised just how many Wrath encounters have speech when I do have it turned up.)
And I swear, the owl screech is the same sound as the shocker bats from Diablo 1.
The rogue stealth sound has been known to create consternation. ;)
