Breakfast Topic: Choosing the best mob noise in game
There's a fun little discussion on the forums right now about the best noise out of a mob in the game, and people have all kinds of different opinions. Among the many brilliant things Blizzard has done with World of Warcraft is the way their sound design makes each and every encounter with a mob very memorable, so that even if you're not paying close attention, you know a) when you've aggroed something, and b) what you've aggroed. We all know what a wolf growl sounds like, we know what it sounds like when the caster you're trying to sneak past starts casting (and many of us can probably tell what spell, just from the sound), and of course, probably most memorably, we all know what that gurgly murloc sound means, especially when you hear it in numbers.Lots of the best audio clips are actually from bosses (all of Molten Core's bosses were memorable, for some reason, and "Too soon!" has even reappeared in the game since). My personal favorite lately is the quote from Elder Nadox, the first boss in Ahn'Katet's Old Kingdom. He shouts an otherworldly phrase (apparently in Nerubian) and it ends with a "k-k-k-k-k" sound that must have been edited together -- it definitely doesn't sound human. Every time I hear that (and he says it a few times throughout the fight), I get the feeling that we are fighting something that is very, very old and very, very evil.
But of course lots of the audio cues help pull you into the game like that. What are some of your favorite mob noises in the game?

The DK's ghouls. Clearly the ghouls. They're so adorably cute and the noises they make are just squee-worthy.

The Baby Blizzard Bear and Frosty (CE Pet) FTW!

Although not a mob noise per say, the most memorable sound moment for me in WoW is when you step into the boss room in SM Library. I love how the music just rushes you into the fight.

I think the music in all of SM is part of why I love those instances so much.
Some of the music is used for Bal in AV too. I've stayed behind a bit after the kill just to listen for a few bars before rushing to IW...
Too bad AV just isn't so ... epic .. anymore
/sigh

I have two young nieces who laugh hysterically at the farting noises abominations make when you beat on them.
Myself, I still get chills from Domo and Rags in MC since for many, it was the first spoken dialogue heard in the game.

Xevozz from The Violet Hold. He sounds like the Gman from Half-Life, which is epic :)

Not a mob noise, but the "vomiting tree" noise a druid makes shifting into tree form is hilarious.
Also, polymorph: turtle targets make a funny noise (gotta be standing near one with sound up kinda high or earphones to hear it):
"ble-badda-ble-badda-bla-bladda-bla"

OP: "Elder Nadox, the first boss in _Ahn'Katet's_ Old Kingdom"

That is all.
(Also my favourite sound is the murloc's if for nothing more than how memorable and famous it is.)

Time for fun! - Blackheart the incitor
No more play? - Patchwerk
I paint my face with your blood - Final boss Utguard Keep

For some reason, my favorite is Slad'ran. "DRAKKARI GONNA KILL ANYBODY WHO TRESSSSPASSS ON DESE LANDSSSS."
And whoever voiced Keristraza did a FANTASTIC job. Her enrage line is another one of my favorites.

I was hoping someone would put this one in...I love the desperation in her voice "FINISH IT...FINISH IT"
Lyraat Mar 27th 2009 9:07AM
I don't play with the sound on cause I would ignore my raid leader and enjoy the wonderful cacophony of WoW :D
That said, one quote that sticks with me is "Da shadow gonna fall on you... " from Hex Lord Malacrass. Not a particularly interesting or well-said quote, but considering he said it each time we tried to bug him, the phrase stuck with us. "Yes, we know the shadow is going to fall on us. You need not remind us."

Agreed.
Tragically however, "mgrlllmgrlrrr" actually means "We come in peace!"

I personally enjoy Anamalous(sp?) He sounds a whole lot like the voice that tells me "excellent" and "incredible!" when I play bejeweled on my xbox.
Also my favourite quote is "Life from lifelessness. Death. For. You."
pietrex Mar 27th 2009 9:13AM
Anomalus in The Nexus.
"Of course..." I love it.
Warlord Mar 27th 2009 9:15AM
My two favorite:
The end boss in Shadow Labs. The hilarious "honk" noise it makes all the time, I think a tiny VW is in the room.
And, of course, baby merloc singing. That quest in the tundra where you escort up to a dozen babies around, all singing, is so huggingly ADORABLE! I got ridiculed in gchat when I mentioned it, until they themselves did the quest, and all I heard was "Awwww...."
Candina@WH Mar 27th 2009 10:01AM
Yeah, the baby murlocs in BT are adorable.
The only redeeming muloc fact in the game.
Fiammara Mar 27th 2009 12:31PM
I love the baby murloc noise! I also love the fact that the pets from the Oracles eggs occasionally make the same noise.
