iPhone authenticator now in app store, for free
A few days ago, Blizzard semi-accidentally revealed that they were working on a cell-phone version of the authenticator (which works well along with the whole Battle.net account thing). Excitingly for many of us here, the iPhone was one of the supported platforms. Today, the Battle.net Mobile Authenticator has appeared in the app store, and I've got it installed on my iPhone. And it's free!
You can find it in the app store on your phone by searching for "Blizzard" and scrolling down near the bottom. Or you can just click this iTunes link. Anyway, once you install it, it's a pretty simple matter to attach the authenticator serial number to your Battle.net account, and then use the generated codes to log in to WoW.
It is also supposed to work on the iPod Touch, with the caveat that you need to be in wifi during the setup; thereafter, it can work without a network connection (on the Touch as well as the iPhone).
[thanks, Ray]

Will this still work if I have an authenticator? So if I lose/misplace mine?
Eliah Hecht Mar 27th 2009 4:30PM
No. From Blizzard's FAQ on it:
Can I use a Battle.net Mobile Authenticator and a Blizzard Authenticator at the same time?
You can only have one authenticator added to a Battle.net account at any given time.

just wondering but can this be done thought your computer aswell or do i have to have it though my Iphone
Naix Mar 27th 2009 4:40PM
I hope they make one soon.
Yeng Mar 27th 2009 4:47PM
Probably not. Then the Authenticator located on your computer would be accessible if your computer is compromised. Thus rendering it useless.

well if u have an ipod / iphone and itunes, just go to the app store on itunes, get it there and put it on your iphone/touch

@ Yeng
Wait wait wait wait wait....with a random number generated at Blizzard and my PC only usable for 1 minute. It would not matter if you had 10 key loggers on your system. That key is only good for 1 minute. I really hope Blizzard releases that application for the PC.

They should focus more time and money on getting more authenticators in stock than working on this iPhone app.
Yeng Mar 27th 2009 4:39PM
I doubt that the manufacturing of said PHYSICAL units is tied into the release of a SOFTWARE app.
UFTimmy Mar 27th 2009 4:40PM
I'm sure the same person who coded this app would be the same person on the assembly line in a third world country producing more of the dongles.

This app will mean that every player who has an iPhone (or one of the other mobile phones it will be available on) won't need to buy an authenticator. It'll make for more security, more quickly, and then the authenticators at the Blizzard store won't sell out as fast.

Chavezz Mar 27th 2009 4:40PM
Can't download it from the blizzard.net account management :( only the Korean version is available
Ekimus Mar 27th 2009 4:40PM
I'm a bit disappointed that I paid for an authenticator. The mobile/software version is much more portable than the key fob will ever be. Although, each individual key fob will never be exposed to any outside (ie: internet) forces.

Spoonman Mar 27th 2009 5:02PM
Isn't up for Canada either from the looks of things
Yeng Mar 27th 2009 5:19PM
Canadians are too nice to have hackers though, right eh?
Maelikit Mar 27th 2009 4:43PM
FYI need 2.2.1
Albrechtae Mar 27th 2009 4:56PM
Here in Canada I can't find it in the App store on my iPod Touch, and on Battle.net itself it still says it's only available in Korea ("Download for US/EU carriers (Coming Soon)").
Hmm.

Last I checked, Canada is not in the US or EU.
