The Southern Graveyard is a trap

"Capturing the Southern Graveyard will now automatically capture both the East and West Graveyards."
Great. Give all those scrubs an excuse to capture it while on offense. Thanks, Blizzard.
Let me explain why capturing Southern Graveyard is one of the worst things you can do for your team while on offense. You see, when you capture Southern Graveyard and your team is progressing Southwards through the Gate of the Yellow Moon and the Keep, members of your team who die during the effort will rezz near the yellow gate. Where are the tanks and charges that you need? That's right. They're downhill to the Northeast and Northwest. This means that your team will need to run down just to get a tank. In a timed Battleground, time spent running down just to get a tank is time wasted.
It's important to capture the Eastern and Western Graveyards because doing so unlocks the Sparklight and Rigspark Workshops respectively. This means you will spawn right where you pick up Demolishers. But if you capture Southern Graveyard, you will spawn farther away from tanks and the nearest bombs are behind the yellow gate. The latest Battleground change is completely baffling and I'm not certain why Blizzard is implementing it. At best, it will encourage defenders to protect Southern Graveyard -- another scrub thing to do.
The one and only time when capturing Southern Graveyard is a strategically sound move is when the keep has been breached or needs only one blast from a Massive Seaforium Charge. At that point, Eastern and Western Graveyards should already have been captured and are largely irrelevant to the final rush. Blizzard should at least place seaforium charges at the Southern Graveyard rezz point to raise its strategic value. Otherwise, it is a trap for the offense and capturing it is guaranteed to slow down your team. That is the flaw of the Strand of the Ancients map, and the Patch 3.1 change is only going to aggravate it.

I'll use the word scrub from time to time however when writing a blog as popular as wowinsider it is best to approach it with a more professional taste.
I would edit the article to replace the word scrub with newbie (not noobie; they're two separate things).
Scrubs and newbies are a lot alike except newbies are innocently making mistakes cause they're new to the game or part of the game but it is not a demeaning word to use.

You know what all the people who yell don't take South GY, need to quit your bitching. Because you can win Strand without ever taking a GY. Maybe instead of crying about the GY, you learn how to play better, what about that?
mike Mar 28th 2009 9:46AM
Do you think you sound any better?
On a side note this probably the angriest article I have seen on WoW Insider.
FlawedLogic Mar 28th 2009 8:42PM
The funny thing here to me at least is, I've seen and killed his toons many times in PVP, yet he talks about "scrubs". Before you go calling others scrubs, Zach buddy, you might want to learn that it does not take a full 5 seconds to turn in pvp.
TL;DR version: Don't be bad in pvp then deem to call OTHER people scrubs, mmkay?
MindGem Mar 28th 2009 9:48AM
What are you talking about? The southern grave yard is where the tanks spawn just like the eastern grave yard.
The last grave spawn to the north is what you're confused about, that's a bad place to spawn.
And off topic. Strand is SOOO BORING! and Uneven as hell.
Horde always start on defense and teams are newer full at start on my battle group so the allies can plow thru and cap within 2 minutes cus there are like 3 horde.
When it's our turn to attack the teams are full or nearly full else the game would have ended right. So now we have to break thru 15 allies to cap.
And, we can't BUFF on start because there are no players to buff up.
So clearly Strand favours the alliance as everything else.
Sure you can flame me, but you know it's right.
I wish the next bg they make will be a survival game. 15-20 on each side and nothing but a slop hill to the other side and the first faction that gets 100 kills win.
No fuss, no muss.
Malkeior Mar 28th 2009 10:28AM
The "north" graveyard you're talking about is the south, check you map while you're in the BG.
MindGem Mar 28th 2009 1:02PM
Malkeiro. Oh ur right. my bad.
Well, the uneveness still hold tight.

omg, people are making a fuss over a word!! oh no, he said "scrub" let's all cry......
Zhiva Mar 28th 2009 10:05AM
I strated to read article, saw the "scrub" word... looked at author's name and wasn't surprised to find that it was Zach Yonzon, famous for calling all players who don't PvP "carebears", a lot of other offending and insulting statements, and lack of courtesy.

This is entirely beating a dead horse, I know, but I went back and read that thread including his comment to you and just.. what in the world? That is not only disrespectful but adds to his lovely aura of douchey and also lowers the standard of the site as a whole. I guess I'm not so surprised about this article anymore, then.

This just enforces the fact that every individual I have met who uses that term seriosuly is a complete ass. Thank you!

Look, I agree with some of you that we don't need to wear our feelings on our sleeves, but you have to realize that not everyone you encounter in this game or in real life thinks calling people names is funny or harmless. Its just that simple if you want people to understand that capping the southern graveyard is the worst thing you can do then leave out inflammatory words or comments. And when people act that way in game I don't call them out on it or petition a GM I just ignore them.
Edanas Mar 28th 2009 10:21AM
Wow... being offended by "scrub"? WTF. Go grow a pair.
@Everyone who is "offended" go /wrist
Lego Mar 28th 2009 10:32AM
Pointing out that being nice gets more people to listen to what you say is not lack of having a pair. Its just the mature thing to do.
Oh, the next time you have an agreement see how far you get by using the phrase "grow a pair".
Kakistocracy Mar 29th 2009 12:06AM
Yeah, honestly, if someone explained the "strategy" for a bg in a manner as rudely as some people seem to think is justified, I will go out of my way to do it the "wrong" way, but because it is better to lose and irk some childish fellow then to win (especially if their ranting is any indication of their blood pressure).
So isn't asking nicely the easiest way?
flawedsymmetry Mar 28th 2009 10:12AM
I'm glad I see other people who are sick of seeing people use that word as well. And you know what? As correct as the article as, any idiot KNOWS how to play Strand by now. Hey, did you know Druids Moonkin form is for DPS and not healing? CRAZY I KNOW.
BiggusGeekus Mar 28th 2009 10:27AM
This is one of those changes that I agree with even though I know I'll hate it.
Battlefields should be won with superior tactical play. This will never happen in pick-up-groups unless you get a very charismatic and fast typing guy in the /bg channel. But that doesn't change the fact that players prone to zerg rushing all content, be it instances or battlegrounds, should lose to an organized team.
Malkeior Mar 28th 2009 10:32AM
Wow. someone expression an OPINION on a BLOG and used a SLIGHTLY derogatory term which BEST describes the type of behavior expressed by the OPINION in this blog...
Really people, get a thicker hide and stop capping the Southern Graveyard.

Wow. People express an opinion about a blog and use slightly derogatory terms that fittingly describe the type of writing decried in the opinion about the blog...
Really people, get more discerning taste and stop complaining about complaints.
The above...
Ad infinitum.
