The Southern Graveyard is a trap

"Capturing the Southern Graveyard will now automatically capture both the East and West Graveyards."
Great. Give all those scrubs an excuse to capture it while on offense. Thanks, Blizzard.
Let me explain why capturing Southern Graveyard is one of the worst things you can do for your team while on offense. You see, when you capture Southern Graveyard and your team is progressing Southwards through the Gate of the Yellow Moon and the Keep, members of your team who die during the effort will rezz near the yellow gate. Where are the tanks and charges that you need? That's right. They're downhill to the Northeast and Northwest. This means that your team will need to run down just to get a tank. In a timed Battleground, time spent running down just to get a tank is time wasted.
It's important to capture the Eastern and Western Graveyards because doing so unlocks the Sparklight and Rigspark Workshops respectively. This means you will spawn right where you pick up Demolishers. But if you capture Southern Graveyard, you will spawn farther away from tanks and the nearest bombs are behind the yellow gate. The latest Battleground change is completely baffling and I'm not certain why Blizzard is implementing it. At best, it will encourage defenders to protect Southern Graveyard -- another scrub thing to do.
The one and only time when capturing Southern Graveyard is a strategically sound move is when the keep has been breached or needs only one blast from a Massive Seaforium Charge. At that point, Eastern and Western Graveyards should already have been captured and are largely irrelevant to the final rush. Blizzard should at least place seaforium charges at the Southern Graveyard rezz point to raise its strategic value. Otherwise, it is a trap for the offense and capturing it is guaranteed to slow down your team. That is the flaw of the Strand of the Ancients map, and the Patch 3.1 change is only going to aggravate it.

I'm kind of dissapointed that this post has the Ackbar tag and yet when I click it this is the only post with it. Why do no other posts feature the Admiral, why?
Zach Mar 28th 2009 12:52PM
It's a trap.

I don't do BG's very often. I used to do it before BC came out constantly but I got bored of it and probably only did EotS maybe 10 times ever and I have yet to set foot into SotA. So, if I did go it's good to know that makes me a total scrub.
I'm going to go be a PvE carebear and fish.
What irritates me is the over all seemingly hostile attitude toward people who don't PvP. I earned my stripes in BG's. When there were still rankings, I had Knight-Captain by my name. So I did my fair share.
Everyone chooses to play the game as is best for them. If it's one of those people who uses it to fish and chat to friends then that's fine for them. If you find the only fun to be in PvP then that's find for you and it doesn't make you an idiot cause you never raid. If you can't stand PvP and just feel the fun is in the raiding then that's fine too.
Because of your choice in how you play the game doesn't make you less intelligent or capable. It just makes you an individual. You can make a statement about displeasure of something without it coming off as whining. I point to the article about druid tanking (I'd go look for the link but I'm lazy) as an example. Whiners beget whining.

The word 'scrub' is simply an acknowledgment that there are many people who play WoW who have no business doing so, and only seek to ruin it for the rest of us who aren't scrubs.
From taking away resources such as Ore and Herbs, to making the LFG a useless tool despite 5-man content being retardedly easy, 'scrubs' really do lessen the playing experience of those of us who are good at this very easy game.
WoW isn't and shouldn't be for everyone, regardless of how hard Blizz tries to make it so.
So you scrubs out there: stop pretending. You know you are bad, and all you are doing is ruining the game for others. Please find another game to play.
Thank you.

I cannot believe how many people are freaking out over a simple issue like the word "scrubs." Maybe if it didn't have a place in the article, but jesus christ. The stupidity in some BGs is amazing.
I can't count how many times I've seen EotS start and see the entire team just run for the flag, completely ignoring towers for the entire match. Or how often I've seen a whole horde try to take the Stables back in AB when the entire Horde side is there, completely ignoring every other undefended point.
So yes, there -is- a right way to do BGs to insure victory, and people that can't understand the most basic things -not to do- are certainly scrubs. My god.

The problem with this isn't the use of the word scrub, it's the whole tone of the article, it reads like an angry rant in /bg.
Back when I was grinding AV I used a macro at the start of every battle to give a light-hearted reminder not to capture the IB graveyard. I didn't get angry, I didn't call people names and that was just in game chat. If I was writing on a professional blog, I'd be more careful.
ScytheNoire Mar 28th 2009 11:16AM
Replace "scrub" with "moron" or "idiot" and it will hopefully make people happy.

When someone who writes articles that we're supposed to take serious uses a word like "scrub", he might as well write the entire article in leet speak. There's no reason for us to take him as a professional when he talks like that.
Magma Mar 28th 2009 2:26PM
Yeah, too bad scrub isn't leet speak.

"Great. Give all those scrubs an excuse to capture it while on offense. Thanks, Blizzard."
Oh stop it. You sound stupid and managed to roll two awful catchphrases into one complaint. Have some integrity.
srubz0rz Mar 28th 2009 11:34AM
How scrubby this article is! I remember back in the old days when bloggers used to not call their fan base or readers "scrubs".
But in good pretense of the scrubbiest blogger that ever scurbbed the scrubbib scrub, heres a good ole' "Eres lookin at you, SCRUB!" o_O
Radiophonic Mar 28th 2009 11:41AM
Maybe the word Greenhorn could have been used instead of scrub? To many people (as you can see), scrub is an offensive term.
dasime Mar 28th 2009 11:46AM
also an example of the word 'Scrubs' used in a non derogatory term is the show 'Scrubs' on TV (E4 i think) which is (in essence) the lives of some of the doctors in the Hospital from them being 'n00bz' going to '7331z' and then training other doctors!
you could easily compare going from trainee to pro in BGs and Hospitals.
dasime Mar 28th 2009 11:49AM
Tbh this is a good point raised, I liked knowing about it before patch day and yes, capping the southern GY is a foolish thing to do in a busy BG.
Anybody who complains needs to try playin SotA themselves and see how far they get tappin that southern GY before breaking that Keep, even Yellow Gate!
josh Mar 28th 2009 11:59AM
is the southern gy recappable by the defense, if so i can see a great deal of strategy in capping when on D if it's already been taken because then the offense'll rez at the northern one by the boats costing them a great deal of time

"WoWInsider: News, Analysis, and OPINIONS from Inside the World of Warcraft"
Stop bitching about his use of the word "scrub." Stop saying he's some guy that must play WoW all day and feels superior to you because he knows strategies that work. Intelligent argument is fine; don't try and devalue an opinion just because of goddamn word choice.
Stiverton Mar 28th 2009 12:26PM
You're supposed to cap south AFTER you breach yellow. There are charges inside the courtyard to grab. They should make it so you can't cap south until yellow is breached.
Zach Mar 28th 2009 1:13PM
Actually, if you cap South with only yellow breached, you'll still need to break through the keep door. Capping South will only make the courtyard easier to defend because the best offense against a gate is a Demolisher, which is harder to obtain.
Capping South is a very bad idea except when you've broken down the relic chamber door.

I'm always bemused when people use the word "scrub" in WoW. I mean I honestly didn't realise that so many TLC fans played. I am definitely and proudly a scrub by the way, as I can't get no love from any of them.
