Breakfast Topic: Vanity Items

I know it's a silly RPer thing, but I try to pay some attention to how my characters look in game. For example, I still haven't gotten the Shave and a Haircut achievement on my Death Knight because I think he looks pretty cool and very much like he should as a character and I'm having a hard time changing it, even for an achievement.
Another thing I do as a result of this is do varied and esoteric quests to get gear that MIGHT look good on me conceivably. Some day. Possibly. My Hunter has a full set of black leather armor in case she ever has to, I don't know, join an RP night stealth strike force, I suppose, and a torch in case she needs to lead an angry mob or something. It's a little obsession.
Still, there's a few vanity items I'm still trying to track down. For example, I'm still trying to find a pair of solid blue jeans. Rancher's Trousers come first, but they're shorts and whatnot. Of course, what I really want, I am pretty sure doesn't exist: An item that will turn my Death Knight's Ghoul into a Geist. It doesn't need to grant it any special abilities, Geists just look cool as hell, and definitely much more worthy of serving a Death Knight than the somewhat dull-witted nearly-rotted-to-nothing Ghoul. Uh, no offense, Wormslobber.
So my question for the day is this: Do you have a vanity item that you consider integral to one or more of your characters? Have you kept old drops and quest items tucked away for a rainy day just in case you need to look really good and/or weird? And what type of vanity items are you still trying to track down or would love to see implemented?

Nathanyel Mar 29th 2009 8:37AM
Oh dang you just reminded me to get a pitchfork for my druid :)

To the author of the story.., why don't you go to the barber shop, change one tiny thing, you get the achievement, and then change it back. It' s not like there is a cool down or anything or it's permanent. Just a thought...

To the author: you can even just buy the haircut you already have and still get the achievement. That's what I did on my bald, no-tentacle draenai.
rosencratz Mar 29th 2009 11:15PM
That doesn't work.
I'm the same as the author though myself. I've never once considered changing how my character looks and though i've looked at the barbershop options there is nothing i'd rather have.
I don't really see the point in changing my appearance and changing itback again just for the sake of an achievement though and in some ways i consider it a slightly different kind of achievement to opt out of some fo them. For example i have the achievement that involves killing various critters, however i don't have the Squirrel loving one despite the fact it's within my power to do so. I do have 4070 achievement points though so it's not like i don't enjoy the achievement meta game.
I think sometimes it says more about your character to not do a thing than it does to do everything.

Yeah. My main is a priest, and I've walked into t the Barber shop many times and clicked through all the various options and just can't get myself to spend the gold for any of them, that just don't 'fit' her. I've done it on all my other characters, just to get the achivement, but I'm always happy with the change.
I know I could just do it, and then set it back, but that seems like such a waste of money for just a silly achievement.

D2 and a pair of lightsabers (Argent Avenger and Spellfire Longsword) on my rogue. I put it on every time in the city. (yeah and a lucky charm in the inventory)
sickbox Mar 30th 2009 4:32AM
Same I got the D2 set for my rogue except I use two Skullforge Reavers from Baron because they form an X on your back when sheathed and have a pretty purple glow. Empty your back slot and it's pretty much the best set a rogue can have.
...aside from the Shadowcraft set.

Time-Lost Figurine, for those times when I want to reenact "The Dark Crystal".
Pygmy Oil + Tiny Voodoo Mask (+Mirror Image if you're a mage) = Bwa-ha-ha!
Ametrine Mar 29th 2009 2:18PM
I wanna do that now! VOODOO GNOME ARMY!
Gren Mar 30th 2009 7:13AM
YES
I use the same thing Pygmy Oil and Tiny Vooodo Mask - its hilarious.
I also love the 3 different Orbs there are. I got them all.
Riding the Hogger wearing a lovely black dress and my engineers googles are not to bad either. Still need a pair of decent sandals for that outfit though.
I am still looking for the perfect outfit for a rainy boring day - havent found it yet- but one day I will...

If you want the achievement just change something and then immediately change it back...

I still have the Scarlet set from Scarlet Monestary on my warrior, love how it looks.

Blue jeans: Azure Silk Pants (tailored item)

Kajira Mar 29th 2009 11:55AM
The dilapidated pants and the frost-rimed pants also look good as blue jeans.
If you like some that stich up the side, plain old knitted pants do you, too.
Yeng Mar 30th 2009 11:09AM
Because blue jeans fit well into RP...

I keep every vanity item I set my eyes on. I have Linken's Boomerang, all the Scourge invasion items, Don Carlos hat, Barov peasant caller, Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire, Defender of the Timbermaw and some other items. Besides those, I am also collecting class sets.
Aubrecia Mar 29th 2009 8:21AM
I love all of my mounts, every single one of them. Well, actually, not the windriders, but since I'm usually in flight form for any air travel ...
I also have a deep, abiding attachment to my Silver Tabby Cat. I don't know why, I just love that cat and love having it out more than any of my other vanity pets.
Aubrecia Mar 29th 2009 8:22AM
I forgot to mention, I'm holding onto the ZF and Mara items even though they're not required anymore (and obviously way under my level). I also keep almost all of any holiday stuff I get -- still have a stack of pumpkins in the bank that I plan to break out around the fourth of July.
Tiber Mar 29th 2009 8:46AM
All my characters wear a brewfest hat when not in combat.
