Pet Bombling and Lil' Smoky available to all Engineers in patch 3.1

The schemata for Lil' Smoky and the Pet Bombling are now Bind on Pickup drops from Gnomeregan. I know, I know, Gnomeregan is terrible, but most pet collectors are so overleveled for that place that this new method of getting the recipes should be dramatically easier. The Pet Bombling appears to be a 100% drop off of Thermaplugg, the final boss of the dungeon. Lil' Smoky is slightly less reliable, but not by much. He drops off of the Arcane Nullifiers and only the Arcane Nullifiers, as far as testers have found. That makes sense, considering Lil' Smoky shares their model.
If you're going to be hunting down these bad (and smelly) boys come patch 3.1, Gnomeregan is the place to be. Kaliope even has some further advice on tracking down Lil' Smoky, should you need it. Good luck on your hunt!

That really sucks, all the work put into getting one of the pets will be thrown to waste by this patch. I personally only picked up engineering to get the Bombling. Seeing lowbies everywhere running around with it will be pretty upsetting.. :[ This is almost as fun as when they dropped the 40 mount req.

Read again? You'll still have to level it, just you can get both rather then one.
Ametrine Mar 29th 2009 2:16PM
You're not a special snowflake. Stop whining other people can have what you've got.
AyaJulia Mar 29th 2009 2:19PM
So because YOU threw away some money, no one else should be able to get their pets? It's not going to be THAT much more common. They're still BoP items, engineer-only. It's the -schematics- that will drop, not the pets themselves.
The only constant in this game is change. I've probably been playing for less time than you ('bout a year), and I know this. Things you put a lot of work into get trivialized over time; you can't expect everything to stay special. :) And in the end, it really IS all just nonsense electrical impulses on a server ages away, nothing to get upset about.

Well, you'll still need Engineering - it's only the schemata for the pets that drop, not the pets themselves. And now you can get the pet that previously wasn't available to you, at least. Hopefully that can assuage your wounds some.
I'm still mulling over which is more evil to ask players to do ad nauseum, though: doing a mind-numbing quest of the "pay 2 gold" variety or farming Gnomer. :-S

This is it for me and blizzard its over. i've seen lots of changes and never minded as my love for the game was still strong, but now, running gnomer again, they've gotten cruel and unusual.
I.. just... can't.. face it again.
Hold me.

"That really sucks, all the work put into getting one of the pets will be thrown to waste by this patch. "
What all the hard work of renewing your card, destroying it and renewing again multiple times? Yeah, that sure is hard work.
You'll still need Engineering so you can stop crying about all the 'lowbies' having them. What's more upsetting than your upsetting is the elitism that you're attempting with your post.

Soo.... are they phasing out Engineering specialties?
Along with fishing books and cooking quests....
me no likey :(

change is scary!!!!!!!
Verit Mar 29th 2009 6:55PM
Not really - as far as I know if you want to look at blood elf females naked you need to be a gnomish engineer.
Fyve & Boomstick Mar 29th 2009 8:18PM
I'm currently leveling an engineer, thanks for the heads up.
Gnomish it is.
Only because I hear it reduces lag in dalaran... What? why are you looking at me like that... you sexy beast? Your momma know you wear THAT under your armor?
romiress Mar 29th 2009 2:16PM
Ouch. A guildie of mine just dropped her JCing, levelled engineering, got the pet/mounts, then dropped it to level tailoring... just ouch.
Blake Mar 29th 2009 2:18PM
Lame. I dropped Tailoring for Engineering, got my pet, then took up Mining. Now I have to drop Mining to do Engineering again? I wish they'd make up their mind and stop listening to all the qq on the forums.
AyaJulia Mar 29th 2009 2:20PM
No. You don't -HAVE- to. :) Really doubt there's a guy with a gun to your head forcing you to level Engineering over and over.
Blake Mar 29th 2009 3:50PM
Well since I collect pets and have 89 of the 99, yes, yes I do have to take up Engineering again :)
AyaJulia Mar 30th 2009 12:34PM
My point stands. You say "I collect pets" as if this fact is so simple and basic and vital to the existence of life/the universe/everything that it can never, never, never change.
You don't have to collect pets. You don't have to level Engineering. You don't even have to play.
Blake Mar 30th 2009 4:17PM
Yeah yeah yeah. Of course I don't have to do anything. Don't take everything so literally. It's just that they keep changing things like this that really make no sense and go back on what they have said in the past.
When they say that you can only get one of these pets and they're not going to let you get both of them by switching from goblin engineering to gnomish engineering, I believe them. Now they say, we'll just make them drops in Gnomeregan. What? Why? What purpose does it serve? Do you just want some random 80's romping around in Gnomer for shits and giggles?
No, they probably got enough people qq'ing on the forums, and rather than sticking to their guns, they cave in and make them drops instead of specialization specific.
wyrd Mar 30th 2009 4:39PM
You claim to be a pet collector, and yet you bitch about being able to get another pet?
Swiftpaws Mar 29th 2009 2:28PM
I'm not saying I'm a special snowflake, I'm just saying that it's annoying to see a reward that cost a week and 600g turn to nothing. /sadpanda
Kakistocracy Mar 29th 2009 3:34PM
Not sure how you went through 600g in membership renewals, but if we are both reading the same article, these pets are still only for engineers, it's just that blizzard decided goblin engineers don't deserve to have more pets than Gnomish engineers.
