Breakfast Topic: New 5-man dungeon plotlines
So the rumors of a new 5-man dungeon to come sometime before Icecrown, maybe in 3.2 or 3.3, continue to persist. Assuming they're true, I wonder: What would you like to see? I have a few ideas of my own.
How about a Grimtotem dungeon? Let's unmask Magatha once and for all as a Scourge agent. Some quest lines point to the possibility, and it's an excuse to implement a nice Great Masquerade type quest line complete with confrontation in Thunder Bluff. It's topical to Wrath, and it shakes Tauren lore up a bit. It's a perfect idea all around, as far as I'm concerned.
If that idea doesn't tickle your fancy, I have a few more after the break.
Another idea is to create a third Azjol-Nerub dungeon. Let's face it. For a sprawling subterranean empire, Azjol-Nerub feels sort of small, thousand mile drop aside. I'd like to see another section of Azjol-Nerub opened up into a BRD style dungeon. It'd be a nice experiment in bringing back longer dungeons, and it could be a proper large spider city that does justice to all the talk about the ancient kingdom of the spider people.
Finally, I'd sort of like to see another Vykrul dungeon. No reason other than I think they are awesome, and I want more back story. Plus I wanna meet some of the "good" Vykrul who didn't go for Ymiron's blood thirst and evil. Maybe even some of the ones who protected their poor sickly mutant kids. It'd be sort of like meeting Adam and Eve for us Human PCs. There's got to be more awesome Viking giant back story. Don't let it end with Ymiron's unceremonious death!
What about you? If there's a new 5-man or even a new secret raid dungeon coming, what settings and story lines would you like to see explored?

Never heard anywhere of a possible new instance.
Source of the rumor?
Catiya of Feathermoon Mar 30th 2009 8:23AM
Same here x__x? Where did this come from?
Alpheias Mar 30th 2009 8:55AM
I didn't hear any rumors until this news! So yeah, where DID the rumors come from in the first place? :) Please enlighten us, you just made me curious as *insert any annoying sound*.

Well Dire Maul got patched in during vanilla wow, and then Magister's Terrace in TBC, so the possibility of a new 5man being added later isn't too out of the question, something related to the Sunreaver's rep would be good, possibly to get certain rep items for Icecrown, resist gear perhaps?
Bylak Mar 30th 2009 8:27AM
No, no more BRD. Seriously, you people get so nostalgic for the weirdest things. The new direction of instances is awesome, and it'll be a sad day when they bring back a BRD-style instance.
Besides, raid instances are so accessible now, you get your epic instances with epic loot to boot ^_^

I don't really understand the BRD hate people have. Is it because it's long? I loved it. I ran in a ton when I was the appropriate level and hell, even at 70 and 80 I've gone back and soloed it for no other reason than just because I liked it.

It was long yes, and the only time I could do it in Vanilla WoW was to pug, which was an exercise in futility if there ever was one. With so many bosses, quests, and ways to get lost it was impossible to get a pug focused. I've only seen the Emperor once myself. Like Gnomer, my vanilla experiences have completely soured me on the instance and I have no wish for the return of instances that can conjure experiences like it.
Draelan Mar 30th 2009 3:02PM
Yes, the BRD hate has a lot to do with how ridiculously long the instance is. Personally, I don't really HATE it, I just find it frustrating to get through at the appropriate level. When I was leveling my main, I never did manage to get to the Emperor while at the appropriate level. I had groups get to that room with a crap-ton of fast respawning dwarves, and that was as far as it went. And that was after skipping half the bosses in the dungeon. >.> Didn't see anything past that point until after I hit 70 in BC. Would would have REALLY helped was if there was something like the Dire Brew Remote available for appropriate level characters. Especially given that you need to go to the tavern for Thorium Brotherhood turn-ins anyway, and it made a nice halfway mark for the dungeon.
But, regardless, given Blizzard's trend towards making quick dungeons, I don't see them making another BRD anytime soon.

What about Uldum in Tanaris ? :p
Lian Mar 30th 2009 8:30AM
Uldum.
It's been there forever, we have quest lines leading up to it. Likes explore and expand on the old god and titan relics and lore left behind in Old Azeroth
Lian Mar 30th 2009 8:30AM
Or a COT Instance, 'That Fall of Silvermoon'
Fight a losing battle for the elven forces to hold the city, or stand with Arthas, and destroy the lot of them.
Sakinah Mar 30th 2009 8:55AM
As someone who RPs a Farstrider who was there when the gates came down...:
^^ This, please this.
Gravesilence Mar 30th 2009 8:30AM
I like the Grimtotem idea.
Maybe something with the Scarlet Crusade; I hated the Scarlet Monastery but a lot of people loved it. And they are all over Northrend; maybe something on one of their islands down there in Icecrown.
I think Azjol Nerub will be the source of the second raid; I could be wrong there. On the other hand they could do a Magisters terrence/sunwell thing.
As for Vrykul - that fortress down at the south end of Jottenhiem - seems like that would be a good place to put a Vrykul Dungeon.
Aggrajag Mar 30th 2009 8:34AM
I think it should be a carnival along the lines of Darkmoon Faire, but where you load gnomes and dwarves into cannon and fire them at epic fire elementals so they run around screaming like a torched baby.
Woif Mar 30th 2009 8:36AM
Epic win.
Tirrimas Mar 30th 2009 8:46AM
How about just make Darkmoon Faire not so lame? I mean, we've been bringing them stuff for HOW LONG, and they still haven't improved their offerings?
Makes me wonder if they're secretly vendoring all those fuzzy paws and funding the Scourge...
DarthMurdock Mar 30th 2009 8:36AM
I would like to see more CoT instances, just as Guilwolf said, Grim Batol would be a awesome addition and so would be something like the Greyman Wall battle or we could see the Stormwind instance, which was there since the beginning of WoW. Or they could release the Hyjal instance which is still locked inside WinterSpring.
Wulfkin Mar 30th 2009 8:36AM
I agree that it would be good to see more of Azjol-Nerub. I always thought it was a shame Blizzard scrapped the idea of having the place as a massive subterranean zone. It could be tied in with this Scourge vs Yogg-Saron stuff thats coming out in Ulduar. Lets have a proper Scourge-Forgotten Ones face-off and get caught up in the middle of it!
I also agree we ought to get 2 or 3 instances not just the one. We do need new stuff to keep us ticking over in *all* aspects of the game, not just raid content. When they start up the Crystalsong Forest whatever-it-is will be good too.
ZuWhowho Mar 30th 2009 12:18PM
yeah, screw patching in a new 5man, patch in a new zone! I was distrought when I found out Azjol'nerub wouldn't be a zone after what blizzard said about it being this most original of zones and showing of how they'd level it by showing us the dalaran layered map. =(
Why did blizzard kill off the zone by the way?
Wulfkin Mar 30th 2009 12:30PM
I never heard a definitive reason. I assume it was deemed too much effort/too difficult to get it ready and stick to the release date for the expansion.
