Breakfast Topic: The next Warcraft comic book hero

So I posted a couple days ago about the new Death Knight manga starring the Human Death Knight Thassarian, and it sparked some interesting conversation in the comments. Namely, people started talking about the type of hero they'd like to see in the Warcraft comics. Some complained that the Horde wasn't getting enough representation, some wanted specific races to get the spotlight. I thought it was at least fun to think about, so I thought I'd ask the question straight up: Who would you like to see get front billing in a Warcraft comic storyline or graphic novel?
Me, I'm actually pretty happy to see Thassarian get his own book, but what might also be cool is a book that centers around the struggle of the High Elves. They're essentially exiles from thier own land, now that Quel'danas is Horde territory. How do they feel about the Horde and the Blood Elves? Have they given in to their fate and accepted that they will fade as a race, or is there a movement to reestablish a High Elf culture and society apart from the Blood Elves? How does the reignited Sunwell fit into all this? Give me a series that tackles all of that from the perspective of a wise and patient but still dashing and daring High Elf Ranger with strong ties to Humanity and the Alliance.
What about you? What's your ideal hero and storyline for the next Warcraft Manga or comic book storyline? Is it an established lore character? A completely new character? If the latter, what race and class is he or she? Where do his or her loyalties lie? What challenges will they face? What themes will the storyline tackle?

Good point, what the Trolls really need is some memorable characters besides Zul'jin (Drakuru was good but he is dead now...and evil). But why do you say that the Trolls don't need more new lore? The Darkspear plotline is incredibly shallow, and any other recent lore is basically trolls abusing their animal gods and then getting their asses kicked by adventurers.
Hmm... gorlocs v.s. puppymen...who would you bet on?

A troll plotline that does one of the following:
Avoids their retarded accents. It's cute to hear in game, but reading it is like pulling teeth (this coming from a kid who grew up reading Redwall books from time to time.)
Two: does not stylize female trolls into looking like human women with little tusks (C'mon. That's just cheap and unoriginal on the artist's part)
Three: has some relevance and could find its way in game as a quest, instance, or plot line. Preferably not casting the troll as a boss, but as a support character, a la Kalecgos. But less bishounen. And corny. And left field.
Four: focuses on Loa, shamanism, and other traits of the stories' omnipotent /positive/ forces. The Light can suck my left nut, for all I care about this game's endless spiel about it. Could of sworn their were at least a couple of powerful forces of good in this game's. Maybe the fifth element coming to a head as something more concrete?
Five: support characters should be old horde, almost exclusively. If not, than one Forsaken. Maybe a goblin, or two. Or a Dwarf. Mighty convienient that the one Horde that joined Varian happened to have rack and wear nothing more than a few scraps of loincloth sewn together for something we pass as modesty in the entertainment industry these days.
As an aside, a plot line about Magatha that is not her sending a cartoony looking Tauren female off to have wacky shenanigens with a gnome would work, too.

Pfft, needs more Dwarf Female heroine. Just because it'd be badass.
perderedeus Mar 31st 2009 9:38AM
A tauren. PLEASE. When people think Warcraft they always think about humans, orcs, dragons... and to a lesser extent, dwarves, trolls, and elves. I know the tauren were only introduced in Warcraft III, but come on.
As others have said, the whole Magatha thing with the Grimtotems would be (or could be) interesting to flesh out.

I would hate to see a series of graphic novels or comic books that focus on the plight of the high elves, because that would lead to even more calls from players to make the race playable.
Ugh. The last thing we need are more elves.

Garona!
BaskinRidge Mar 31st 2009 10:09AM
Your in luck then, the new arc of the original WoW comic series has reintroduced Garona. As the issues come out we're suppose to learn more about her and what place she will take in the present. Some good stuff in store there ;)

The only WoW novel I wanna read would have to feature a Tauren Rogue as the main character. ;P
Matthew Rossi Mar 31st 2009 11:14AM
Wow, coincidentally enough, I play a tauren rogue. We're currently bugged so that we can't stealth, our energy bar is red and doesn't work correctly, and we can't generate combo points. On the up side we can dual wield 2h weapons and wear plate.
I'm not sure when they're going to patch us.

@Cbeefman
Rexxar would be a great choice.
Personally I'd be happy with a Thrall book or with a group that is assembled out of the different factions of the Horde, like a Troll shaman, an orc warlock, an undead priest, an Tauren Druid, a belf mage, and then tell us stories of the things they -experience-. Like, we could watch the group being in service of the horde. Running with Garrosh in nagrand, being some of the guys who were there as Illidan fell, or who stood by heroes as they felled Kael, etc... they wouldn't even have to be the 'superheroes', just being those guys who are along when the heroes do their stuff. A 'grunts view' of the great big happenings, just that the grunts are also tight friends, and then we accompany them during downtimes as well. Learn who they love, who they hate, watch how rivalries between the horde factions play out, since there should be a LOT of those, etc.

Grom Hellscream

Grom's Story:
RAAAAAAWWWWWRRRR!!!! I'm not a nice person. And I kick ass.
In all seriousness, it would be interesting, but Grom is long gone from lore, if the did anything it would be Garrosh looking up to his father and how they interacted.

One word: Saurfang.
Matthew Rossi Mar 31st 2009 11:16AM
You honestly think anything less than 100 issues of any manga or comic could hold Saurfang? He's just Bladestorm the pages and rend the book asunder.
