Chef's Hat introduced in patch 3.1
One hundred Dalaran Cooking Awards. One hundred. That's how many Cooking Awards it takes to purchase the statless vanity item being implemented in patch 3.1: The Chef's Hat.I would be excited if it didn't mean I would need to do a few rotating dailies every single day for the next few months, and I would be excited if the hat didn't completely remove my character's hair texture and make her bald like those Winter Hats did. Unfortunately, it does both of those things and thus looks really, really stupid.
I wish they would float these sorts of hats over/around the head, not clamp the hats to the scalp. I would quite like wearing this chef's hat if it was larger and went over the hair texture, rather than removing the hair texture and clamping right around the top of the head. Some of this stuff just looks awful on female models. Sure, a chef should keep their hair under their hat, but I don't know many that keep themselves shaved bald for it.
Oh, and there's an achievement for getting this thing. Have fun with that.

Isnt the whole point of a chef hat to keep your hair out of the food?

@Alex Ziebart: It takes commitment to really cook well.

I have to say I don't really feel sorry for female characters whose hats make them look bald, because I doubt they have ever had a hood that added a new mustache. Some of those make my Gnome look absurd (as oppose to how he normally looks with his spiffy beard...)

And that's why men are better (professional) cooks than women: They don't mind messing up their hair or even shaving it entirely.
A women will go like: "What, I have to hide my hair to become a cook? Forget about it! I'll become a waitress, wear sexy skirts and have my butt grabbed at 10 times a day.
Sanya Apr 14th 2009 4:44AM
Yeah, Guapa, remember that next time you ask your girlfriend to make you a sandwich. You can get off your butt and make a better one, right?

Actually, yes, it is.

rejoice! =D
100 dalaran tokens doesn't seem too bad. i think the wow community at large has always wanted a chef hat and bliz is finally putting it in.
chin up.

You can also think of it as 1000 Northern Spices...which is more depressing, considering you could sell 1000 of them for a few thousand gold.
Jamesisgreat Mar 31st 2009 2:39PM
Yeah - its a bit pricey at 100 cooking awards.
When I first saw the headline I thought that this was going to be reward for completing the chef achievement or getting 160 recipes or something. I think that may have been a lot better.
WoWie Zowie Mar 31st 2009 2:48PM
well its just a novelty item anyway. go ahead and keep selling spices, it doesn't affect your ability to do that at all =)

The spice must flow...

Ok sorry but the Dune reference just rocked my world...
Yeah sad....

While I could see your argument for some types of hats making sense, part of the idea of kitchen head coverings is to completely fit the hair inside so it doesn't fall off in the food....
kabshiel Mar 31st 2009 2:29PM
And ignoring the real life reasons, having the hat sit on top of your hair would create terrible clipping problems. Imagine a troll with a mohawk wearing that hat.
Yeng Mar 31st 2009 3:28PM
Exactly kabshiel, this is QQ from the author about something that if he had his way would cause a lot of issues with clipping. So what if it 'removes' your hair to put it on, you wouldn't see it anyways except the places it poked out through the hat that wouldn't look right anyways.
