The Queue: Strategery

Good afternoon, everybody! I apologize for missing yesterday's edition of The Queue, I sort of forgot about it in my rush to get our April Fool's joke pieced together. The entire team got together to bring that little joke to life. Getting it all put together was like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. Fun, but it took awhile! Hopefully you guys enjoyed it. If not, oh well! We had a good time bringing it to life.
I don't think you want to listen to me ramble about that, though. Onto the Q&A!
Ghola asked...
"Why would the Argent Tournament set up camp in Icecrown, at the back end of the glacier? This makes absolutely no sense to me. Crystal Song seems way better: no quests there, plenty of space, and much better weather!"
The Argent Crusade already has a presence in Icecrown, and tournament or not, their goal is to fight the Scourge. Some of Tournament dailies still involve suppressing Scourge activity, and the purpose of the tournament is to rally the major players to Icecrown. Story-wise, it absolutely belongs in Icecrown. Crystalsong definitely needs something going on there, but the Argent Tournament is not what should be there. Although the Argent Tourney does send you on some daily quests down there.
I think they rather enjoy Crystalsong being quiet and serene despite all the little odd things going on in there. Maybe we'll see something else in there later.
Pequod asked...
"What's the consensus on attacking opposite faction players who come to our capital to fish? Both Horde and Alliance have locations where this occurs and it seems there is a daily discussion when someone decides those anglers need to be eliminated."
I suspect the folks who protest the most are themselves fishermen trying to keep things safe when they run off to enemy territory to bag that big fishing achievement. I don't see that as a bad thing but is it truly wrong to attack the enemy when he/she makes themselves available for slaughter? What's your take?"
I leave fishermen alone, personally. I don't expect the other side would extend the same courtesy to me when I go to Orgrimmar, but I do try to leave fishermen alone in Ironforge so they can get their achievement. If they try to go exploring, they're gonna die. If they keep themselves by that little lake in the back of the city? I'll leave them alone.
I don't throw a hissy fit if someone else kills people in Ironforge (I'm Alliance, if you haven't noticed) but it does bother me a little. They're just fishing, you know? There is the whole... the factions are at war thing going on, though. I'm not going to be one of those people that pretends PvP doesn't belong in WoW, because it absolutely does.
I don't kill them while they're fishing, I don't like other people killing them, but I won't crucify someone for doing it.
Solas asked...
"With the ammo stacking change in 3.1 and haste being added to the hunter skill Auto-Shot, what happens to existing quivers and ammo pouches? Do they automatically disappear from inventory? As a Leatherworker, I am especially curious about unsold quivers and pouches I have sitting in the bank. Is there a WoW precedent for this kind of change? Thanks."
They're just going to become oversized bags that you can only put ammo in. They won't be totally useless if you want to carry unholy amounts of ammunition with you all of the time, but for the regular person they're not something you'll keep around. They won't disappear, though. They'll still be around. Just less useful.
Sheppard asked...
"I ve been asking around and getting mixed answers from different people. Does jumping up and down during a boss fight effect your chance to dodge, block, parry, etc?"
As long as you're facing the mob(s) and continuing to do everything you would normally do, then no. It shouldn't have an impact on any of those things. Movement, jumping, all of that stuff has no impact on your avoidance as long as you're still in the right place positionally. If you end up exposing your back to a mob when you're jumping around like a kangaroo, then you might have a problem. Otherwise? You're fine. I bunnyhop constantly when I'm tanking Keristrasza in the Nexus. No problems.

Wow I thought the whole ammo change was still on hold for 3.1. Nice to know us hunters will get a change and be able to use regular bags.
Mattimus Apr 2nd 2009 4:12PM
They haven't been able to make Infinite Ammo work for some reason, last I heard, but they upped the stack sizes from like 200 to 1000 without changing the price.
I may be wrong, but that's the case at present last I checked.
Raptor Apr 2nd 2009 4:14PM
It's only sort of changing. Ammo stacks in 1000 now instead of 200, and you don't get the haste bonus from pouches/quivers. So you'll still have to carry a stack or two with you, but you get another bag to put it and whatever else inside.
smiley Apr 2nd 2009 4:15PM
yea, its a nice change for sure having another bagslto is always a plus...
as for me on my hunter I'll keep my 28 slot Quiver and just keep 28,000 arrows, that way i can keep my good ammo for raids/arena and the white L75 for reg dailies/dungeons .. and probly some mimdgrade like KoT ones for general PVP
its a welcome change no matter how you figure it. another bag or just a boatload of ammo
I am hoever not looking foreward to seeing how much i spend on the initial fill& refills
Thyrial Apr 2nd 2009 4:16PM
It's not the full ammo change it's a temporary change where ammo is going in stacks of 1000 until they can finish with the change over to non-consumable.
Michael Apr 2nd 2009 7:52PM
ROFL @ Smiley. Blizzard frees up a bag slot for you and you think the best way to take advantage of the change is by bagging 28,000 arrows? Really?
Anaughtybear Apr 3rd 2009 1:20AM
Boo for no more quivers and ammo bags. Yes, I play a hunter. It just makes more sense to have a quiver, and I don't need the bag space that badly. Once again, Blizzard caves in to a bunch of easy-mode loving crybabies.
rosencratz Apr 3rd 2009 3:26AM
As Thyrial says, this is only a temporary change on the way to full implementation.
They said long ago the full implementation of the ammo changes wasn't going to be in 3.1

@ michael
I try to avoid downtime whenever possible, so i figure 28k arrows and bam arrow buying down from 2 quiver fills a day to once a week hopefully.

In the Argent Tournament, is it possible to champion other cities than the ones attached to your race and faction?
Could my Tauren Warrior try and earn the favor of Gnomeregan to obtain a sweet Mechano Strider?
I've always wanted one of those for my tauren warrior
Asteh Apr 2nd 2009 4:18PM
Guess twice
Kakistocracy Apr 2nd 2009 4:38PM
I believe they said that you have to be exalted with the faction before you can champion it, so if you find a way, let me know.
Cyno01 Apr 2nd 2009 5:10PM
BUT, the pets at least, are BoE, so they will be tradeable. Thinking of leveling my horde toon just to get my main all the pets without having to spend unreasonable amounts of gold.
Max Apr 2nd 2009 7:00PM
of course not. use that thing between your ears.
Haarits Apr 2nd 2009 9:33PM
@Kakistocracy
You do NOT have to be exalted with a city to champion it, just to get the "of " title while you're championing it. The Champion dailies are a new way to gain rep with cities if you haven't already hit exalted with them all (plowing through lowbie quests for achievements & mount-access).
So if you really don't want to go for Seeker or Loremaster by doing every quest you can find (which will also get you exalted with your faction cities), you can still run a bunch of daily quests at 80 to hit exalted so you can go round up all those mounts you couldn't buy before, and get a bunch of titles in the process.
I think, currently, you can only gain rep with a city you're championing (or have already championed) since the quartermaster doesn't show you any goods unless you're a champion with them. If you're a gnome, and you've become champion of Gnomeregan, Darnassus, and Stormwind, you can take the Writ rewards from the dailies and turn 'em in to the Darn or SW quartermasters for a 250-rep token (like the regular daily dungeon rewards). You probably won't need to get any of those tokens from Gnomeregan, since you should be exalted with them by 80. So basically your first Champion role isn't about rep, it's just about a free title, getting familiar with the quests, and getting a pile of Champion Tokens in your currency tab to start saving up for your Argent Hippogryph or other AT goodies.
Balius Apr 2nd 2009 9:42PM
Once you faction your home city based on race, you can do quests to unlock other cities within your faction and champion them too.
You don't need to be exalted to champion a city, in fact factioning is supposed to help you gain rep with the cities.
thumper242 Apr 2nd 2009 4:14PM
If I remember correctly, the game doesn't recognize your position until you hit the ground either. So jumping up and down might have some unintended consequences.
Phoenix Apr 2nd 2009 4:41PM
When you jump, the server acts as if you're still in the place your jumped from until you land. This is one of the reasons you should never jump while fighting Heigan (or Hodir with his flash freeze), since if you're in midair when the slime hits, the server still thinks you're in it.
Likewise this causes some problems with stuns and snares in PvP sometimes, where your opponent jumps, gets stunned in midair, but keeps moving until s/he lands. And they're always JUST out of reach, Grrr.
smiley Apr 2nd 2009 4:16PM
you ill be able to champion your own factions cities.. however not the opposite factions
Lemons Apr 2nd 2009 4:16PM
"They're just fishing, you know?"
Maybe for now...until they get tired of it and start ganking all lowbies coming out of the war room!
Is that what you want? Lowbie blood all over your hands!? You make me sick!
