Around Azeroth: Multiplicity
We've received several additional pictures of last night's chaos on Spirestone. Nick, Failicus, and Chimmychummy all sent in shots of the madly spawning mammoth vendors Mojodishu, Drix Blackwrench, Hakmud of Argus, and Gnimo. A quick visit to the Spirestone forums shows that the vendors were not despawning when people dismounted from their mammoths. A poster on the Customer Service Forum suggests that as Spirestone had been having server issues all day, this may have been a deliberate attempt by a few people to crash them and force a restart. Or, of course, it could have just been an unintentionally hilarious bug result. More pics below the cut!

A sea of green text. Looks like Horde is dominating this game.

Will the NPCs get banned for violating TOS? F U, indeed.

It ended when the vendors committed mass suicide in the fountain. (Not really.)
Do you have any unusual, clever, or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, double-mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

That's pretty funny, the FU suggests some sort of hack attempt maybe? Hopefully it's all sorted now.
Ashvoyager Apr 3rd 2009 10:42AM
Wow. Is your brain not functioning? People are creative and can spell things out with dots. All you have to do is dismount, leave the NPCs, and then mount back up and do it all over again.

I would say the work of an ex-employee.
Tasty Apr 3rd 2009 10:16AM
That makes a lot more sense, sounds much more likely than some sort of uber secret attack.
ScytheNoire Apr 3rd 2009 10:40AM
probably just someone who found a bug and decided to cause some chaos.
Justin Apr 3rd 2009 2:39PM
agreed... Some funny chaos!
Kryxx Apr 3rd 2009 3:47PM
Yeah, it's funny until you realize your entire server is unplayable.

Or maybe just a bug? Something caused by an attempted hotfix maybe? Not everything has to be sinister...

me and my crappy PC wouldn't like to be in this sea of npc...

Why are people talking about hacks and ex-employees? It's clearly just an issue with the server or an exploit that someone has discovered, and once one person knows about it, within minutes everyone will be doing it.
I think it more likely a server problem.. perhaps database related. But for whatever reason, vendor NPCs aren't despawning like they should and people are having fun with it. It really is as simple as that.

There were no NPC's anywhere else in Northrend and ALL of the thousands of trolls in Dalaran were named Mojodishu .

MAYBE THIS WAS THE MISSING APRIL FOOL'S JOKE. :O
Suddenly, everything makes sense. :P

I was there, and I do not think it was a disgruntled GM or dev. After Northrend DCed on Spirestone people logged back in to find that no NPCs/mobs were there (instances worked fine). People started to run around in Dalaran and go into the opposite factions 'base'. Then somebody discovered if you mount on the travellers mammoth and dismount the reagent vendor and repair guy stays on the ground forever. It was this that lead to chaos.
ScytheNoire Apr 3rd 2009 12:25PM
Exactly. It's a bug and some idiot went around mounting and dismounting, causing a big mess, writing things like FU, and just being a pain in the butt. It's a bug, that's all.

LOL awesome bug!
Ezlo Apr 3rd 2009 1:08PM
As a witness to this first hand I can say it was f-ing awesome, the only downside was the fact that mages were selling portals for 50g since the free portals in Dalaran were classified as NPCs and therefore didn't exist. But I did make some good money >=P

Hello, first time posting.
I play on spirestone and at around 5:30 our northrend world server crashed. When it loaded up all the northrend NPCs and mobs did not spawn and the tundra NPCs would not despawn.

I too was on Spirestone at the time of this. I was fishing in the Hills, and all the sudden, I'm back at the charc screen. Couple times of trying to get back in, kept getting the World Server down message. Finally got back in, and there are no mobs in my world. All the sudden 5 lvl 73's are chasing me thru the woods trying to kill me.
Pretty funny, although I logged after getting to the base (void of guards) and logged out. So I missed the fun in Dal, but glad I did.
