WoW Insider has the latest on the Mists of Pandaria!

[1.Local]: No April fools in OUR comments ... or are there?

Reader comments – ahh, yes, the juicy goodness following a meaty post. [1.Local] ducks past the swinging doors to see what readers have been chatting about in the back room over the past week.

Four-Stat Plate Gear
Reader Jaxtrasi was moved by Warrior columnist Matthew Rossi's take on the leather vs. plate issue – so moved, in fact, that he shared a little song he wrote.

"I wrote a song about this a few months ago," he offered. "No, really. It's not a rickroll. It's a song about Warrior gear."

"Four-Stat Plate Gear" ... Hmm, it does have a certain ring to it ...

Learning to dance with WoW
Approaching things with a gamer's eye can help you clear all sorts of hurdles. For WI's Michael Gray this week, applying a certain "Safety Dance" strategy is helping him learn how to waltz.

Reader Kylenne offered her encouragement. "Ignore the haters, Michael. I thought it was a cute article :)," she cheered. "My own WoW-related dance story: I've bellydanced as a hobby for a while now, and I've incorporated the troll female dance into routines on more than one occasion. Funny enough, I've never had anyone recognize it from the ultimate source material (Shakira). But when I perform with my classes in public, without fail, someone will recognize it as being from WoW.

"The best was at a local Renn faire, when someone shouted "For the Horde!" at me when I did it."

But did they toss her a few copper, too?

Relic beats Activision-Blizzard in developer showdown
The business of WoW and gaming always seems to bring out the pundits among us. Eric has this to say about the validity of a recent poll about Activision-Blizzard's "success": "In the age of Stephen Colbert, one should know by now that online polls are hardly representative of any kind of widely held opinion. Blizzard (make that their publisher, Activision-Blizzard) loses a 6,000-vote poll by 13 votes, and suddenly they're yesterday's news? Your sensationalist sky-is-falling reporting leaves much to be desired."

"What exactly were the factors in this contest?" wondered Zasziden. "Relic's got 2 current IPs to its name: Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. Both of them tend to fair pretty well with critics on each release. Sales are pretty solid on both lines. Fair enough. It also had the Outfit and Homeworld (and its sequel) back in the day. Both of these were decent.

"Activision-Blizzard is not a developer, but a conglomerate publisher for a number of smaller in-house studios. So it really depends on how you're drawing the line here. Blizzard, by itself, has developed 3 current lines. Numbers-wise, the critics have enjoyed them all, with everyone currently reading this likely playing at least one of them. If we're considering the entire publisher as a single entity, then we add in Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Quake, and a slew of iffy movie and Tony Hawk games. But this was a developer contest, not publisher (which would be THQ for at least the Dawn of War line, on Relic's side)... And it wasn't based on sales, or critical acclaim ... It was a popularity contest, on the Escapist. And Relic won by a grand total of (drumroll) 13 votes!

"Conclusive studies, indeed. Anyway, I like Relic, and I'm glad they made a good showing. They'll likely fall to BioWare, who will then fall to Nintendo ... because, well, that's just how those guys at the Escapist roll ... I personally am upset that Insomniac went out in the first round, also to Relic ... curious."

How would you have voted?

A kinder, gentler Guildwatch
So what did April Fool's Day bring to the fine [1.Local] crowd that gathers each week for Guildwatch? "Awww, I believed every word until you said 'Epic Vendor on Duskwood has downed Hogger with all three gnolls up,'" complained Sarnath. "Yeah, right, like that could actually happen!"

"So they can down Hogger with 3 gnolls up. But can they down Princess with 3 pigs up?" riposted Gimmlette. "I'll believe they're uber when Princess falls."

"This is almost as bad as the 'Hello Kitty' scare of '08," moaned biglou. "I dont want to read about 'nice.' I want to read about effin' a-holes ninja-ing the epic lootz, then the GB, then hacking the GM's account and g-kicking everyone after sleeping with the raid leader's wife."

Guess that pretty much sets the bar, eh? And thus, the readers have spoken.

Making short work of boss deathmatches
The [1.Local] strategists picking apart each week's Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves have been diving deep of late, setting up some truly entertaining scenarios in hopes of swaying the vote for their outcome of choice.

But this week, reader david brought everything to a halt with an off-topic question that deserves immediate consideration: "Who would win in a fight: Brann Bronzebeard or Hemet Nesingwary?"

We'll get back to you on that ... shortly.

Until next week!
