Breakfast Topic: Non-utilized utility items
So among my full to bursting bags on all of my characters, one thing the high level ones pretty much all have is the Skyguard Drape (or the caster equivalent thereof). Even my Death Knight has enough skyguard reputation to have one. I figure if I ever I have some need to fall from a great height, I can just strap it on real quick and jump, and it will always be there just in case the opportune moment arrives.
But here's the problem: I have never needed to use it. Not even once.
Yeah, I mean, in theory, it's useful. But in practice, not so much. In Northrend and Outland, I don't really need a right click slow fall to jump from high places, I can just fly my mount down. If I accidentally fall off my mount or a high place for some reason, the cape has to get through usual 30 second "I just equipped this" cooldown, so even if I equipped it right away, I'd be a pancake before I could use it. In theory, it would be useful if I equipped it ahead of time while flying, but all of my flight capable characters have epic flight and can easily outfly or otherwise dodge anything that's a real threat, so chances are I wouldn't need in that case either.
Plus, it's sort of ugly. So that's another minus.
What about you? Is there an item in your bags that you keep because it really might be useful one day? Has it ever proven you right, or does it sit there waiting for just the right time to be whipped out?

Mages have blink, rogues have sprint, and hunters have aspect of the pack. I have this skull.

"why would there be a ring with waterbreathing in AQ of all places?"
If he's talking about what I think he's talking about, the ring isn't in AQ itself. Rather, it's a quest reward for part of the scepter quest chain: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=21526.

The Swifty videos made this thing look like the RNG god's gift to warriors pre-nerf haha

The ring from the AQ questchain that gives underwater breathing
Haven't really had a good use of it yet, especially since I also carry the trinket from the fishing competition (which is awesome by the way)
I forgot about that cape from skyguard, I think I'll go buy it and drop it in the last free slot in the bag with things I always carry around ^^

The cape is handy. I appreciated having it when i was doing the Sons of Hodir quest where you have to spear a proto drake. in case lag or lack of practice gets you kicked off you can safe yourself from a nasty fall. Also the stout of slowfall is handy too.
I also needed it when doing the practice quest for malygos in Coldarra. You get a slow fall when knocked off the mount(which sometimes bugged for me) but i found i frequently landed on a platform high up and was still "in combat" so couldn't remount.
I also carry around the bounty of the harvest so i don't have to carry around food all the time. It's not the best in the world but saves me cash.

Here I thought I was the only one going to mention Really Sticky Glue
Zrob Apr 4th 2009 11:29AM
All of my horde toons have their Really Sticky Glue in the bank. I'm just waiting for that one day.....me against Arthas and bam...he's rooted....
Or maybe I'll save it for Sargeras......it just seems too important to ever use.
jurandr Apr 4th 2009 1:56PM
I'm glad I"m not the only one hoarding sticky glue :P

Ha, i was about to post about the nagrand cherries. Every one of my characters i've taken through outland has picked them up and kept them in their main backpack, and i've never needed to use them. My main still has a stac of 18 in his pack waiting to be used (2 eaten as misclicks when i meant to chug a pot).
I thought they would be useful in northrend as there's quite a few under water quests, but every one i've done i've been provided with an under-water breathing thing for the quest.

FOOLS! Mention not the Really Sticky Glue! Do you dare to bring down the wrath of the Gods of Nerf upon us! The Glue is a gift out of time-forgot! Keep the secret safe!

Nagrand Cherries

Don't think I've used even one since they extended the amount of time you can hold your breath, but I still got them.
Ferarro Apr 4th 2009 8:19AM
LOL Same here! I just can't bring myself to get rid of them. There's always that nagging, "But what if there's a quest where I need to be underwater for long periods of time? Or maybe a future raid?" thought. But of course there's always a quest giver or NPC nearby that supplies you with a buff that suffices.
pietrex Apr 4th 2009 8:31AM
ROTFL, it was same for me for a long time. I had some of these for a loooong time, used maybe 1 or 2. Now it's even more useless, because waterbreathing lasts 3 minutes. But that's more - I even got http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37265 and carried both...
However, I deleted both items when I stopped questing. Who knows if I would ever use them...
KJP Apr 4th 2009 9:03AM
Once I got http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44050 I finally got rid of all that "just in case" underwater breathing stuff.
I also keep http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10455 in my bank just hoping someday they'll extend that quest chain.
I guess these http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43090 fit into the category, but I suspect I have good reason to think they'll come in useful eventually.
Zrob Apr 4th 2009 11:33AM
Then you'd probably better give up fruit..
Animal eats fruit, seeds are undigestable, they pop out on the ground with a nice fertilizer package, VIOLA!
Amaxe Apr 4th 2009 12:06PM
Never needed them because I'm a Shaman, but seriously, what is up with Blizzard and the "poop quests" anyway? They have a five year old on the Dev team?
Thander Apr 4th 2009 1:20PM
I actually used all of them on one of my characters. I was farming primal waters from the eels/elementals for the Frozen Shadoweave set. I think I needed a total of 20ish to make all the pieces, and they were too spendy on AH. Back then, the cherries gave you 30 mins of breathing compared to only 5 mins now.
