Yeah, I don´t really understand what the writers problem with Jaina can be... unless she appears in Icecrown and does weird stuff there. Her wanting to stop King Varian from going on an idiotic rampage to war with the Horde makes her much more sympathetic than his dumb-ass self.

My sympathies are entirely on King Varian's side, and he isn't far off from mark. The Horde failed to control the Forsaken and the blame for that falls on Thrall's shoulders.
Jaina (and I like the character) needs to realize that sometimes you need to choose sides.

Sorry, but I completely disagree... yeah, Thrall didn´t have them under control, neither did Sylvanas... but that is no reason to essentially try to assassinate Thrall, just because "the opportunity was there". That´s really, really stupid, and if Wrynn had succeeded, the Horde would be storming at this point into the Alliances lands, while the Lich King would laugh his ass off at the stupidity of both sides.
King Varian was wrong, and is at this point acting like an idiot. Jaina was right in preventing him from essentially assassinating Thrall.

Jaina has chosen a side: to unite the reasonable members of the Horde and Alliance to protect Azeroth against other-worldly enemies.
There are some very evil orcs out there, but whether you personally enjoy it or not, they've been very clear about bringing the majority of orcs back to a peaceful heritage. The orcs as a race are not the bad guys anymore. Get used to it.

We'll have to disagree. I've read the comics written by Walter Simonson, and I guess that's why I can understand Varian's actions.
I don't know if you have read those, but I'd probably find the king a bit irritating too if I wasn't aware of what he has gone through.

And the Alliance has failed to control...
1. Arthas
2. Cult of the Damned
3. Bloodsail Pirates
4. Defias Brotherhood
5. Scarlet Crusade
6. Dark Iron Dwarves
7. Leper Gnomes
8. The 90+% of the Draenai race that still call themselves Eredars
9. Illidan
10. Fandral Staghelm
Just to name a quick 10 people/grouns the top of my head.
The Royal Apothocary Society did attack Alliance. In case you didn't notice, they also attacked Horde, and killed countless orcs and OTHER FORSAKEN, not just Humans.
They were traitors to the Horde, the same way that the Scarlet Crusade is considered traitors to the Alliance.

That list is a bit unfair, and if we used the same criteria to look at Horde's sins, you can be sure it would be a LOT longer.

Actually I have read the comics, and are therefore still flabbergasted how that personality shift for Varian comes about. He seems like a completely reasonable guy in them, he even runs around with a blood elf ( I wonder what she thinks about him going to war with her race, probably killing people she cares about )... but after he is back to his single personality, he suddenly has become much more of an ass-hat.
Oh, well... characterization doesn´t always work out.
Still, back to the point, Jaina did right. That Varian may have a grudge against the Horde in general doesn´t excuse him trying to assassinate their leader in the midst of a war in which both sides fight for the survival for Azeroth.

Not at all Jam. And I think you are missing the point.
There is not a single species, NPC, or player in the game which does not have horrible crimes committed by other members of their race.
The Scarlet Crusade is probably the best example. The Scarlet Crusade is almost a mirror image of the Royal Apothecary Society.
1. One is made up of Human, the other of Forsaken
2. Both are against the scourge
3. Both are lead by the Burning Legion
4. Both want to indiscriminately kill all members of the opposite faction.
5. Both want to commit genocide of EVERY race except for their own.
6. Both want to kill EVERY member of their race, who does not follow their beliefs.
7. Both have been condemned by their faction
I'm sure there are some more parallels, but it's pretty clear that the two factions are fundamentally designed to be equivalent to each other.

There's a big difference between understanding his motivation and condoning it. Jaina's right in stopping him from beginning open war with the Horde at a time when everyone is threatened by the Scourge and the Lich King.

Scarlet Crusade =/= Royal Apothecary Society
Everyone knows that the Scarlet Crusade is a bunch of lunatics, and simply because they're human doesn't mean they're part of the Alliance. That's totally different then having a organization in your own faction that you assume is totally legit suddenly turn on you.
And simply because certain groups are the same species as the groups in the Alliance doesn't mean it's the Alliance's job to keep them in line. By your logic then the horde has "failed to control":
1. Blackrock Orcs
2. Twilight's Hammer
3. Fel Orcs
4. Grimtotem Tauren
5. Kael' Thas and his blood elves
6. The Illidari (blood elves under Illidan)
6. 95% of Trolls in general
Your argument fails. Please play again.

I'll assume that you've never played Horde rather than assume your very unobservant.
Many, MANY Horde quests given or involving the RAS have strong hints that something is rotten in the state of Lorderon. From as early as Brill's level 5 quests and particularly in Tarren Mill, It's clear the RAS is out to destroy all of the truly living. In fact, many RAS NPCs audible farewell is "Death to the Living!" Not death to the Alliance, death to the LIVING.
As a Forsaken player myself, I have always been waiting for this to happen, as it has been forshadowed for years. I like to think of my toon as a purehearted hero and I think that many Forsaken are, but the RAS always has been and always will be as vile and traitorous as the Scarlet Crusade.
