Actually I have read the comics, and are therefore still flabbergasted how that personality shift for Varian comes about. He seems like a completely reasonable guy in them, he even runs around with a blood elf ( I wonder what she thinks about him going to war with her race, probably killing people she cares about )... but after he is back to his single personality, he suddenly has become much more of an ass-hat.
Oh, well... characterization doesn´t always work out.
Still, back to the point, Jaina did right. That Varian may have a grudge against the Horde in general doesn´t excuse him trying to assassinate their leader in the midst of a war in which both sides fight for the survival for Azeroth.
