First: If I remember correctly Saurfang didn't arrive at the UC until After Jaina teleported the alliance away.Second: Jaina needs to crap or get off the pot. After reading Cycle of Hatred it is obvious that Jaina's biggest concern Is Not; her city, her people, or the alliance. Her biggest concern is making sure she doesn't make her adorable Thrall upset. Jaina has allowed the horde to box her up in that swamp and treat her citizens like second class hanger-ons. Jaina may be powerful as a mage, and charismatic as hell, but she is completely naive when it comes to what the horde is, and how much trust you can put in them. Sure, Thrall will uphold his end of the bargin as long as he is alive and in charge, but what happens when Thrall is gone? It is going to happen sooner or later, one way or another, and the only Hordies that really agree with Thrall about the humans are couple of his closest companions. Jaina is quickly burning her bridges, because when Thrall is gone and the Horde decides it wants that little swamp of hers, she is gonna wish she hadn't defied the Alliance so much when they don't come risking their necks for her. Third: Varian has no reason to believe that the horde is any better than it used to be. The Old Horde and the New Horde are two very similar parts of the same evil to him. The Old Horde invaded his country, assassinated his father right in front of him, burned his city to the ground, attempted genocide on his people, and assassinated his mentor and second father Lothar. The New Horde has allied with undead that are occupying the city he grew up in in exile (No they don't have the rights to it despite being citizens when they were alive. The true rightful claim goes to the Living citizens of Lorderan), basically invaded the Night Elven lands in Ashenvale, invaded the nation of Stromgarde, made him into a Gladiator slave of an orc shaman, and now have assassinated the man that raised his son and kept his nation running while he was away (from Varian's point of view the horde could have easily planned all of this to kill Bolvar). You can't blame Varian for trying to cut off the head of the snake, and considering how shaky the horde is right now with Garrosh trying to take control, it probably would have worked. As for risking war while fighting the Lich King... as far as Varian, myself, or any other Ally can see, it pretty obvious the Horde is at War with Us. They keep attacking and invading Our lands (Ashenvale, Arathi Basin & Alterac Valley (Stromgarde Lands), and any forested part of Kalimdor, since that has been part of the Night Elven nation for over 10,000 years), capturing and enslaving our people, ambushing our troops fight the Lich King, and assassinating our heroes. Its about damn time an Alliance leader decides enough is enough and strikes back.
