At the Kael'thas becoming insane thing, Kael'thas in tempest keep isn't that insane, if you actually listen to him during the encounter he's pretty clear, he wants to gather as much power as possible so that he can save his people, even if its at the expense of the people of outland.

And then he was killed.... and I doubt coming back from the dead is pleasant. In Final Fantasy Tactics, there's a character who is exactly the same as Kael'thas, a guy who is trying to do the right thing for his people, eventually realizes that he needs power and forsakes some of his ideals so that he can get the power for his people, and is killed and then goes crazy after being resurrected by a demon.
