I'm wanting to be able to finally communicate on vent since I'll soon be tanking raids...What affordable (< 30) mic does the wow insider staff/community recommend?

Go to any store that sells computer products and buy the cheapest mic they have. In my experience, most cheap mics all perform about the same. You don't really see any different until you get pretty expensive. My cheapo $7 mic has worked fine for years...

Get one that looks solid, at least. I got a Logitech (I think) headset for about 12 dollars that stopped working almost immediately, then went to Target and picked up another Logitech for around $20 that has worked really well for a while now. Remember that getting up in the middle of a raid in a hurry for any reason (cat throwing up, dinner burning, quick bio, w/e) is probably going to lead to your headset getting yanked off your head and onto the floor at some point. I recommend getting something that looks like it can withstand a drop from higher than 6 inches off the ground.

Ah, the cat puking test, not a fun job at the quality control factory.
