Argent Tournament dailies: The Edge of Winter

This is the first in a series of daily guides intended to guide you through the Argent Tournament as quickly and painlessly as possible. We'll have guides for each daily going live in the weeks to come. Keep your eyes peeled and your lances ready!
All of the Argent Tournament competitors want to best their rivals, and the best way to do that is (clearly) to grab some mythical weapons and bash their heads in. In this case, you're after the Edge of Winter, a mythical blade held safe by the Maiden of Winter's Breath Lake ... but not for yourself, of course. You don't need any kind of special advantage to compete.
The first thing you'll want to do is head to Crystalsong Forest, near the entrance of the Crystal Vice.

Keep an eye out for a fire revenant named Lord Everblaze. He's patrolling the bluff above the Crystal Vice and the spot is marked with a bunch of flaming torches.

Kill homeboy, grab his Everburning Ember, and head to Winter's Breath Lake in northwest Howlin' Fjord! You'll see an ice floe near the lake's north bank.

Land there and target the conspicuously-frozen dryad, then use your Everburning Ember to set her free! In her gratitude, she'll give you the Edge of Winter, which, good independent contractor you are, you can bring back to your client for your reward.
Reward: 2 Valiant's Seals, 13g 23s

Dear God is that quest mob going to be consistently camped.
Ferarro Apr 8th 2009 2:03AM
I see this going over well.

Awesome, I love series' like this because they let me be lazy and not have to figure out the dailies on my own =D
Dalixam Apr 7th 2009 6:09PM
Dont you also help 'build' the tournament by completing these dailies? Like on the Isle of Quel'Danas. I remember reading somewher that the actual tournament area had to be built first.
Balius Apr 7th 2009 6:21PM
You do these dailies with the premise of building an arena, but the dailies don't actually cause the arena to be built.
You do, however, progress yourself up in rank by collecting a certain amount of badges, which opens up new quests and brings you closer to unlocking access to quartermasters and to the daily quests that award tokens used to purchase rewards.

blizzard said that the arena you are helping build by doing theses dailies will be implemented in a future patch.

Ok, thanks for clearing it up :)

Yay! Daily quests that have you flying off all over the place.
Like I didn't have enough of that from the fishing quests in BC...
James Apr 7th 2009 6:16PM
Well if the quest was completed right next to the quest giver why would they be paying you to do it?
DeathPaladin Apr 7th 2009 6:20PM
It wouldn't be much of a quest if it were "deliver this letter to that guy standing 15 feet away from me"
Granted, the game has plenty of those, too, but 1) they are usually part of a larger chain, and 2) they aren't dailies.
Balius Apr 7th 2009 6:21PM
Nobody forces you to do any quests, if you don't want to.
sephirah Apr 7th 2009 6:31PM
Don't worry!
In 3.2 there will be dailies in which you'll just /wave at the quest giver and he'll give you 13g, an emblem of your choice and a pony!

There are plenty of daily quests in WotLK that have you perform the task in the same zone as the quest giver. In fact, I think the cooking quests are the only ones that have you leave the zone the quest giver is in to do some of them.
The Hodir have you do up to 6 quests a day in a small area right around their doorstep. The Oracles have you going around their zone, but never leaving it. I've done plenty of daily quests for the Walrus guys and the people in the airship in Icecrown... They all take place in the same zone as the quest giver...
I never said I wanted the quest to be too easy or simple, I just don't like wasting time just flying around... Apparently some people like that. To each their own, I guess. I'd rather be fighting or actually 'doing' something. Maybe that's just me.
Balius Apr 7th 2009 6:50PM
Cue complaints about not being able to pick the kind of pony.
Some one Apr 7th 2009 7:01PM
Nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of quests that I don't like either. But traveling through Azeroth is kind of refreshing. It reminds me of the good old times. :0)
But as stated before, I you don't like the quests, you don't have to do them. ;)
Dightkuz Apr 8th 2009 6:33AM
Guess I'll be the first one to agree with Mike's point.
Dan Apr 7th 2009 6:18PM
Does anyone possibly know the respawn timer on the mob? I don't want to have to be waiting for him to respawn, only for some DK to Death Grip it away from me and ruin my day a bit more.
Balius Apr 7th 2009 6:24PM
These things are usually dependent on the number of people in the area...the more people, the faster the respawn.
What I want to know is, does he drop one quest item, or one for every person in the group? And if he DOES only drop one, does everyone in the group complete the quest when you use it to free the dryad?

Hopefully this is one of many quests that will be made available. Nonetheless, it'll be the situation with the Hodir dailies where we're having 10-15 people camping a small cluster of quest items that just makes everything a clusterf*ck.
My $.02 on the matter.
Neodarkmatter Apr 7th 2009 6:38PM
When I was on the PTR she did not despawn. You instantly get the item and she freezes back up for the next person.
