Argent Tournament dailies: The Edge of Winter

This is the first in a series of daily guides intended to guide you through the Argent Tournament as quickly and painlessly as possible. We'll have guides for each daily going live in the weeks to come. Keep your eyes peeled and your lances ready!
All of the Argent Tournament competitors want to best their rivals, and the best way to do that is (clearly) to grab some mythical weapons and bash their heads in. In this case, you're after the Edge of Winter, a mythical blade held safe by the Maiden of Winter's Breath Lake ... but not for yourself, of course. You don't need any kind of special advantage to compete.
The first thing you'll want to do is head to Crystalsong Forest, near the entrance of the Crystal Vice.

Keep an eye out for a fire revenant named Lord Everblaze. He's patrolling the bluff above the Crystal Vice and the spot is marked with a bunch of flaming torches.

Kill homeboy, grab his Everburning Ember, and head to Winter's Breath Lake in northwest Howlin' Fjord! You'll see an ice floe near the lake's north bank.

Land there and target the conspicuously-frozen dryad, then use your Everburning Ember to set her free! In her gratitude, she'll give you the Edge of Winter, which, good independent contractor you are, you can bring back to your client for your reward.
Reward: 2 Valiant's Seals, 13g 23s
Transmog yourself into an Avenger!

Looks like a good place to keep Flamestrike going or Blizzard if he is immune to fire.

Also know that this is a random daily of the same name. There is one that sends you to kiss toads and another one to pick flowers and deliver them to a maiden. If you check out the PTR for Wowhead there are others besides these three.

Is it the regular 'random' daily (eg everyone gets the same 'random' daily on a particular day) or is it finally truely random? I wish things like the heroic/normal instance dailys were random for each person but they aren't (shareable in group so everyone can do the same daily but still limited to one of each per day).

The kissing frogs one is for the Aspirant rank. Once you pass that, you move on to do this daily instead of the frogs.

I am thoroughly not looking forward to camping lord everblaze. I will be there for ages trying to kill him every day whilst some douchebag taps him with a dot over and over.
sigh

Just what WoW needed, more dailies. Sheesh.
The next expansion will be 100% daily quests and achievements, most of them on vehicles. No regular old quests. Sadly, I'm not sure if I'm kidding or not.

It's not that out of the ordinary. Let's look at the selection in TBC:
2.1:
* Netherwing (3-9 dailies, depending on rep level)
* Sha'tari Skyguard (4 dailies, two of which are shared with...)
* Ogri'la (2)
* Hellfire Peninsula PvP daily (1)
2.3:
* Battleground daily (1)
* Dungeon daily (1)
* Heroic daily (1)
* Cooking, Fishing, Jewelcrafting dailies (0-3)
2.4:
* Quel'Danas (19)
* Halaa / Terokkar PvP dailies (2)
Note how, until Q'D came along, daily options were pretty minimal. Note also that, given a limit of 10 dailies before 2.4, and 25 dailies since, a character can only complete about half of the available daily quests. It's a delicate balance, like choosing the playoff format for a sports league: too many teams get in, and the regular season loses meaning. Too few get in, and you won't see as many late-season comebacks. And so it is with dailies; the player should be forced to choose, but should also be allowed to feel like he/she's accomplishing something.
Ignoring the level 75 and lower quests (because EXP-to-cash attenuates after five levels, meaning reduced payouts to 80's) and including the Dungeon / Heroic / JC / Cooking / Battleground dailies, there are 74 daily quests available in Northrend; of those, 21 are Alliance-only, and 19 are Horde-only (mostly PvP and in Icecrown). Only three of the combined 14 Oracle/Frenzyheart dailies are available to a given character on a given day, and only one of the four Brunnhildar dailies is available per day.
Taking all of this into account, this means that Allies can choose from 45 worthwhile dailies, and Horde can choose from 43. That's about the same range of options as we had in 2.4; it's a decent selection, but I wouldn't mind having more options.

You preferred straight up farming when you were otherwise out of quests? I think most would rather do dailies and have an objective to accomplish rather than just land in the middle of a field of mobs and mindlessly kill stuff. :) If you were complaining not about he fact that there are dailies, and rather on the fact that there are more of them, well ... at least there's some variety, right? A lot of people are exalted with the factions now and just do the dailies for the money, but they've been doing them for 4 months or so now. It would be nice to do something else besides chase around a forefather for the 26346th time. ;)

To anyone not on the PTR that complain about flying too much, I'm a Champion of the Argent Tournament, and do my Champion and Valiant dailies every day (mostly). It's very, VERY easy to do all 8 quests within half an hour, so don't complain about flying far to get one. That's ~170g for 30 minutes of work. Not too shabby imo.

WHINE! I HATES THESE THINGS THAT ARE GOOD FOR THE GAME!!!! WHINE, I HATES PLAYING WOW.... good lord people, quit the game then.

I hope that with these dailies they randomly assign them to different people so everyone isn't camping the same quest every day. Think about how much more easy it would be to do dailies if some were assigned to quest A, others to quest B and so on...
I'd like to avoid another Hodir mess.

Nice to see some new Sunwell-like dailies make a return.

This is why I like being on a EU server and playing at about 4AM... It's just me and the wilderness.
Though it does get lonely sometimes... My Pet tab is rather bare and all they ever talk about is politics. :(

where the hell is "the crystal vice" ? it's not on the map. How about giving directions with landmarks that are actually on the map?

it is where the forest goes to dragonblight....
