More teasing from the Blues, this time about phasing
Oh Blizzard why do you torture us so? Last time it was all about Gilneas, and this time, Wyrxian winks at a player suggestion that phasing gets used more in the old world. Take this all as you will -- Blizzard is just pulling our chain on this stuff, and whatever they have in mind, they're not giving away quite yet. But, let's speculate a little, shall we? We already know that there's one more Lich King mystery content patch: Ulduar is coming first in patch 3.1, and Icecrown will likely be the final raid of the expansion, but there's one more raid that they haven't told us about yet. So we could guess that we'll finally see what's been going on in Gilneas all these years, and that it'll be a phased experience, much like what we saw in the Sunwell patch before the expansion. Plus, the announcement for that patch could be right around now -- with 3.1 set to go live any day now, Blizzard could release that patch and then throw out a preview for the next release right away.
That's all guessing, of course. And we have no idea whether the phasing reference and Gilneas are even in the same patch -- I speculated long ago that the Emerald Dream expansion could be an entirely phased version of old Azeroth, which could completely revamp the 1-60 experience. So who knows? But Blizzard, as they always do, know something, and while they might let on soon, they're not telling right now.

I think that it would be cool if they made a raid instance where the whole thing was underwater.....how about that?
Sonicandtails Apr 8th 2009 7:28PM
Sounds about as good an idea as a battleground where the Horde start in the sky on planes and bomb the *expletive* out of the Alliance who have no way of fighting back.
Rexton Apr 8th 2009 9:41PM
That could go either way.
Kierachel Apr 9th 2009 5:18AM
Got to agree, that's a terrible idea. Underwater quests/content are currently the worst bits in the game, why would you want to spend hours in such a pain in the arse enviroment.

I would also have to agree that anything involving being underwater sucks, unless you don't have to worry about oxygen.

I reckon we're not yet finished chasing 'ghosts of the past' around Ol' Azeroth, like we did in several Northrend quests (mostly in Icecrown). Those were direct teleports to the relevant area; I'd like to do some hands-around-the-world Problem Sleuthing this time around.

I find the teasing from the blues very entertaining. I like the speculation.
Also, why not phase CERTAIN areas of the old world? For example, has the defias threat died? NO! How about westfall is phased as a warzone until you do an epic chain to defeat em'? I would personally lover that, and can think of, so many places that could be done.
Also, one last thing.
As we can see from the idiot a few posts above, typing FIRST gets you know where. Especially when your the second poster.

"know where" as in "Do you know where this is going?" - "nowhere" as in "This is going nowhere!"

Typos happens, but First posts are intentional.
Kakistocracy Apr 9th 2009 4:45PM
That isn't really a typographical error so much as a confusion of homonyms (or, if you prefer, homophones). something like, "now here" could be a typo when intending to type "nowhere", and the same for omitted letters.

lolFail.

You could also have a Caverns of Time expansion that used heavy phasing of Azeroth.

This.
For the love of god, this.
Castigere Apr 9th 2009 10:44AM
I've thought it would be awesome to have in an expansion content where you do Caverns of Time but actually CHANGE the past. you come back to a phased Azeroth where things are different and get to explore and see what changed.
Agathon Apr 8th 2009 7:48PM
Actually there is phasing already in the Old World. Anyone role a DK? or do the chain to free UC ? That is all phased in a manner of speaking.
Kakistocracy Apr 8th 2009 8:41PM
Isn't the DK starting zone actually its own zone? It has a different map, and is walled off, though I may be wrong.
Boydboyd Apr 8th 2009 11:03PM
It's actually an instance.
Anyone ever notice how QuestHelper doesn't work there?
RogueJedi86 Apr 9th 2009 1:21AM
Pretty sure the DK area in EPL is phased for non-DKs. I went over there on my non-DKs and didn't see any NPCs at all, and no way to get up to Archerus. I assume there's some phased vendors on the ground and a phased flightmaster up top. Admittedly I don't have a DK to check to see if there's any NPCs on the ground or in Ebon Hold for them, but I assume there would be a few in the tents on the ground.
