Jack Me Some Lumber is one of the first daily quests you'll encounter upon arriving at the
Argent Tournament. Neither of them have any impact on the tournament itself, so they can be skipped if you so choose. They only award gold, no reputation or items, so avoiding them won't hinder your progress through the Tournament content whatsoever. However, the gold is pretty good and the quests are quick, so if it's gold you want then it's gold you'll get.
What's going on in these quests, you ask? Well, the
Argent Crusade has outsourced the construction of their coliseum to the Goblins. I don't think I need to elaborate on how catastrophically dumb that is, do I? If you want to help these Goblins strip Northrend of its many natural treasures, just talk to Bezzle Blastbolt and his brother Bozzle Blastbolt. The latter of the two offers
A Chip Off the Ulduar Block which we will discuss another time.
So what do you need to do here? Accept the quest, fly out to the western portion of
Crystalsong Forest, just north of the Violet Stand. You'll find yourself in amongst a load of trees, as you'll see in the picture at the top of this article. Ask yourself, "One of these things is not like the other things. One of these just doesn't belong! Can you guess which thing is not like the other things before we finish this song?"
Yes, the green trees tossed in with all of the purples, pinks and oranges is what you're looking for. Waltz up to the green ones, use
the saw that the Blastbolt Brothers supplied, and stand back! You need to cut the right trees down until you have a total of 12
Hewn Planks. You get two planks per tree.
You lop the tree over, a little treant spirit pops out for you to kill, and all is right in the world again. After six trees, you're done. That's it. Go collect your reward.
Your Reward: 13gold 23silver at level 80

OMG trees get cut down to build things!!!!! When did they start doing this? Next thing you know they are going to start striping the planet of metal to make stuff. But the tree huggers who have computers using that metal don't seam to mind. Hey have you used toilet paper today? Tree Killer. Simmer down, it's a game. Also we are building a structure, not razing crystalsong to build condos, did you think the wizards where gonna make the materials appear out of thin air? That being said IT"S A FREAKIN GAME, CHILL OUT. A message brought to you by your friendly neighborhood lumber jack. (I hope they make a lumberjack title, I'd fly my tree hater colors)

At least we're kinda justified with Saronite. Saronite is the blood of Yogg-Saron. Yogg-Saron is an Old God. Old Gods are bad. Therefore stripping the planet of his blood is a good thing.

Is it wrong that when I saw the title, I immediately thought of trees getting off?
Zhiva Apr 10th 2009 1:10PM
- You need 12 planks of wood to complete quest
- Each tree grants 2 planks
...
Why not 1 plank per tree, 6 planks for quest?
jesse Apr 10th 2009 2:44PM
That would be a waste of materials. If you can get 2 planks from a tree you shouldn't make one and discard the rest.

your son would be Jesse Jack's son

@jesse
/sigh
Okay, more detailed explanation.
If tree gives 2 planks, and 12 planks are needed for quest, player will chop 6 trees.
If tree gave 1 plank, and 6 planks were needed for quest, player would still chop 6 trees for quest.

See your logic and I don't understand it either. It's like metals that require 2 ore per bar to make. Why not just reduce the node droprate by half and require 1 ore per bar?
Oh well... I guess it keeps the plebs amused.

With regard to the morality of destroying ancient forests in the game...
This is a perfect example of where the 'freedom' in MMOs breaks down. Ultimately you should have multiple paths to follow. Do you want to help destroy the trees or possibly find an alternate solution?
Sadly uncreative design means your choices come down to something more like "you can play the game or choose not to play the game".
