Breakfast Topic: What it's like to have a Spectral Tiger
Cogfizzle of the aptly named Ace of Spades over on the forums recently came across a Spectral Tiger in the TCG, and has an interesting post up about how people are reacting to his new mount. Most of the people who say something to him simply want to know where to get it (which means to us that more people need to read WoW Insider), but there's also an undercurrent of hostility -- some people think that as a TCG item, the Spectral Tiger mount isn't a "real" achievement in the game, compared to, say, a Netherwing mount or a Zul'Aman bear. True, you can (legally) buy the special loot cards from eBay (or win them from WoW Insider, hint hint stay tuned), when you can't buy those other mounts. But Cogfizzle, we presume from what he says, got his the old fashioned way -- by buying and playing the WoW TCG. Can you blame him for that? I'm of the second group he describes -- when I see a rocket mount or a Spectral Tiger ride by, I just give whoever's riding it a nod and go on my way. But are these mounts less impressive because they can be bought, even if they were gained the "right" way? Or are you not "impressed" with rare or tough-to-get rep mounts in general? Ezra Chatterton famously came to us with the news that he was the first with the Pheonix mount, for fear that players in game might give him grief for having it.
It's an interesting thought, and of course social quirks like this are why we play this game in the first place. Of course none of you would ever harass anyone in the game (right?) but how do you feel when you see someone ride by on a Spectral Tiger?

Personally I just feel a twinge of envy. I've been playing the TCG since it was released. Proud owner of a Tabard of Flame, some Footsteps of Illidan but the most hard-earned prize of all is my Ogre Trinket. All of which through purchasing my packs/boxes of cards and seeing what I get. I get harassed constantly about the Ogre suit when I pop it.
People may envy/despise/whatever you for these items but bottom line is they are vanity items. I enjoy the TCG and started playing that for the game, not the potential loot (as much as it was an added bonus). Now if they were giving away Tier 10 TCG-only loot it'd be a whole different kettle of fish.
Each to their own, I'm biased I admit it, but anywhere from 50-75% of people with TCG loot actually play the game and got lucky (or "earnt" it as far as the Ogre Trinket and other loot goes). It's just the RNG in a whole different package.
I have a Brewfest Kodo & recently acquired Baron Rivendare's Deathcharger... now compare those to some novelty Ogre Suit or some D.I.S.C.O. Ball and tell me which RNG game you want to go up against? lol

Heck, I don't look at things and start thinking about what they cost and how people got them. (If people spend $100 on something, or spend 100 hours farming/questing/whatever for it, who got the better deal, anyway? What's your time worth? :) )

As someone who LOVES to collect mounts and non-combat pets, when I see someone ride by on a Spectral Tiger mount I guess my first reaction is jealousy... but never hostility. Just hope that one day THE PRECIOUS WILL BE MINE!

I'm lucky enough to own a spectral tiger mount and have people from both spectrums whisper me from the very polite to down right nasty. I consider myself lucky i found him when i bought 4 boxes of cards from my local comic book store$65 a box since these are now on ebay for close to $1000. For the people who speak ill of spending money on WOW i say ask yourself what kind of computer you have most have spent $1500 easy to get one that runs at max settings with all addons running when i payed $389. for a Compact from walmart when i bought the cards. So everyone spends money to play WOW. PS. Just Tamed Gondria the spectral tiger rare from Zuldrak.
