Breakfast Topic: Losing stuff in World of Warcraft
I won't mention the actual story so as to avoid spoiling fellow current or future fans, but in a certain non-Warcraft related story I am reading, a character seems to have died in the latest chapter I've read. It happens, but this character was easily my favorite in the series, so I'm sort of bummed more than usual at seeing a fictional character die. I've queued up my melancholy song playlist on Winamp and everything. Now in World of Warcraft, loss is a pretty apparent them as well. The loss suffered by nearly every sentient race to the scourge, the fall of the High Elves, the fall of the Broken, it seems like every PC race on WoW has experienced some loss or seen some great hero fall. In addition, sometimes there's the smaller losses as well. Like, say, giving up Archeus for a weapon with an inferior backstory and proc.
So what losses in World of Warcraft have left a mark on you? Is there a certain story of loss in the lore that especially resonates with you, or do you still mourn the loss of a certain item or NPC as you've leveled up, or even some NPC or Quest that's been removed?

I thought that's what he was talking about too. Great series.

If that is indeed what you are reading, it is an amazing series. Easily the best I read. This is not WoW related, but the deaths of a few of the characters throughout the books almost made me cry. o_o

The Dark Tower series is by far my most favorite read of all time.
I was deeply hurt and disappointed in the ending, but at the same time it fit in so perfectly that I love it even more. I'm going to go start with Gunslinger now!

If he thought losing Eddie was a mindblow, wait till he finishs the series.
Some of my favorite reading.

The top of the tower is greatest ending that series could have. Fit's perfectly with the pervading wheel of Ka concept.

No spoilers, but The Dark Tower (book 7) is probably the only book that has ever gotten me teared up by the end. Hmm, can you tell I don't read fiction much? Anyway, epic ending. King has a reputation for not knowing how to end his books, but Tower was a home run. I really hope Lindelof and Abrams end up making the films/mini-series once they're done with Lost -- they optioned the rights for $19 dollars!

If Donna never got her dolly back from William.

Agreed with Davy. I think the one who dies at (nearly) the end is easily everyone's favorite character. That was the only moment a book has made me get tears in my eyes.
As far as WoW goes i just regret the people i lost sight of. There were these great people that were in my guild on an older server and i just lost contact with most of them.

@ Daniel Whitcomb, add a spoiler alert or delete some of the comments below about the Dark Tower books! I would have been so annoyed if I had seen this while still reading the series, it's gonna ruin it for some unsuspecting people.

@Zuma
Here's another spoiler for you: Luke is Leia's brother.
HA! Bet that's REALLY going to ruin somebody's day!
GrayElf Apr 13th 2009 9:20PM
@Zuma - maybe you shouldn't have been stupid enough to name the series while telling the author not to give spoilers and delete those in comments. Like yours maybe?
I had no idea what he was referring to until I saw your comment, and I'm most of the way through the series atm - thanks for nothing.
Zuma Apr 15th 2009 7:53AM
GrayElf - you seem to have completely misinterpreted my comment. I was not saying that was the series he was referring to. I simply said that the series was discussed (along with many others) in the comments section and contained spoilers.
Admittedly, it wasn't that clear, so apologies. But if had you not read my comment, then you would have scrolled further down and seen the spoilers, so in a way, I'm kind of glad.

I really miss the onyxia attunement quest line, I did it on the Alliance side, sadly never was able to do the Horde's one (where I play now). I really, really enjoyed the whole attunement, alot of work, thats true, but it was so much fun to do. It actually gave you some kind of nice feeling when you walked into Stormwind escorting that guy. Yeap that felt good. :)
Jason Apr 12th 2009 3:22PM
You're not missing a lot with the Horde one...it's really not that great.
Spork Apr 12th 2009 8:16AM
I miss Gamon...
nevermind, he's back.

Oh yes, Archeus... I had a tough choice, either go with Archeus or go with Verigan's Fist, the hammer from the lvl 20 pally quest. In the end I went with the Fist, but I still keep Archeus in my inventory since my pally's in the 30's and it's good to level up my 2h sword skill.
I really wish Verigan's Fist would have a better backstory.
Catiya of Feathermoon Apr 12th 2009 8:27AM
I agree. I wish more weapons had back stories, really. :(

I really love Archeus, it was the first time I ever asked a mate to give me a boost, so I could at least use it for a few levels before I replaced it.
As hard as Mor'Ladim is, it should be slightly higher level and a blue.
Hwanin Apr 12th 2009 8:19AM
I felt the same when I watched the latest episode of House.
I was like: WTFOMGGTFO!!!
