Official Ulduar cinematic revealed

The first thing that struck me is the new face on Jaina. It looks... unpleasant. That's just me, though! It might just take some time to get used to it. Beyond that, the trailer is very very cool, and keeps the Alliance/Horde conflict in the forefront despite the departure from it for the raid zone. It reinforces my thoughts that Varian's hatred of the Horde is never going to be repaired until Garrosh is out of the picture. It also displays that the war on Ulduar isn't being supported by either the Horde or the Alliance: We're in this thing on our own. I also seem to hate Rhonin much less when Blizzard is writing his dialogue.
Thanks to everyone who wrote in about this!

Soooo cool! I was blown away by how different Jaina looked! Are they going to update her model at all? It looked different than usual...
Hoggersbud Apr 13th 2009 10:54PM
I liked the Zul'Aman trailer much better. this was ok, but flawed with feeling a bit implausible, Jaina's ugly new face, and no real excitement.
Garrosh acting stupid and provoking Varian?
Whatever.

I like that the horde is having these orcish power struggles because it makes them seem more colorful but Ive never fully understood why the blood elves and forsaken start at a lower reputation (neutral)? Why cant they trust the Horde?
kabshiel Apr 13th 2009 11:07PM
I think it's more that the Horde can't trust them. And for good reason.
On the other hand, I never understood why the Draenei got to start at friendly with the Alliance. They're demons! Nice demons, but still. Even the starting quests show that the Alliance is a little wary about them.
Ashenshroud Apr 13th 2009 11:59PM
@Kab
Draenei are not demons. Some of the Eredar decided to take the wrong path with their power, and THEY became demons. The others fled the fel-taint, hence the word "Draenei."

Im not quite sure why Varian seems to think that the Horde is responsible for any problems even the wrathgate. Thrall and Jaina seem to be the only one with any sense of diplomacy. Hopefully Varian and Garrosh kill each other because they both deserve to die by the sword. I still wish that there was more of a council for each faction. Why even have other leaders in the Horde or Alliance if they have no say or even have some evidence of communication with Thrall or Varian?

In my humble opinion, the only thing this trailer was missing was a catchy line. I will always remember:
"And when the time is right, the betrayer will become... the betrayed".
or
"Dis was our land, you wanna stay, you stay here forever... We gonna bury you here".

I LOL'd at her "Whom". Would Microsoft Word even let that through?
Raventouched Apr 13th 2009 11:01PM
I get that they want to keep the Horde/Alliance conflict going, but I'm going to nitpick just for a little fun.
It seems strange to me that we would be going into Ulduar at all if this is the reaction of our leaders. I understand that some intrepid adventurers might go, but certainly with the scope of this place it would take significant resources from the fight against Arthas, as well as from the fight between the Horde and the Alliance. As a Horde character I would assume that from Thrall's reaction he would likely send in a significant strike force since he was disappointed in Garrosh's behavior and seemed interested in the issue. Would that mean that the Alliance would be trying to keep up with the Horde in raiding this place? I guess I'm just wondering why as a member of the Horde or Alliance I would stop fighting the Scourge if my leader didn't support it...
Muse Apr 14th 2009 6:15AM
Jaina. Her word carries significant weight within the Alliance. And Brann. If he tells his brother "need help" he'd have every dwarf in Ironforge at his disposal the next day.
Draimen Apr 14th 2009 7:40PM
@muse
Jaina even has a good amount of say in what the Horde does, because Thrall and Jaina get along very well.
Draim Apr 13th 2009 11:03PM
I think it would be really interesting to see different raid bosses in icecrown or 3.2. Horde face Wrynn and Allieds face Garrosh, that or come to a fight between the two and end up having to fight both.
Seraphism Apr 13th 2009 11:05PM
The new high quality models their using for the cinematic are amazing. Good to see Rhonin and Jaina dont look like generic humans either.
ketsugi Apr 13th 2009 11:14PM
I liked the custom facial expressions too. Rhonin had this subtle smirk at one point.
On the other hand, Varian constantly looks constipated.
templar_of_lifght Apr 13th 2009 11:05PM
Garrosh and Varian really need to calm down, theres much more important things, like the fate of the world. There both like middle school boys.
Cuteunit Apr 13th 2009 11:07PM
I like Jaina's new face. Higher res. Her old , normal human female generic face would have looked horrible in all those close-up shots.
It's a good face, you're just not used to it yet. Dont confuse the shock of seeing something new and the feeling that comes with sudden change with dislike. Once you're used to Jaina having unpixelated eyebrows, it'll feel the norm, not the shock.
And yes, GOD ALMIGHTY I have hated playing Horde through northrend after leveling to 80 on Alliance side first.
Alliance npcs treat you like a hero and accord you great respect for your previous deeds. You do heroic things right from the get-go as Alliance. As Horde, all the NPCs are jackasses threatening to cut you in half for merely standing in their presence, and most of what you do is outright villainy. Horde not the evil faction? Hell no, in Northrend the Horde are worse than the Scourge sometimes. Only Saurfang brings the cool to horde. He is amazing.
Hated it when Saurfang wasnt in the picture. Go Varian, I hope he takes Garrosh's goddamn head off someday.
Killchrono Apr 13th 2009 11:27PM
I think there are a lot of Hordies who would agree with that idea.
Garrosh is a prat.
Hoggersbud Apr 13th 2009 11:28PM
No, I wasn't comparing it to Jaina's old face, but simply saying to myself...this looks wrong. She's had a few different face styles in the other games, in the art, and I just don't like this one. The nose is too big.
Kanuris Apr 14th 2009 12:17AM
Garrosh is indeed a right prat.
But then again, that must run in the family. Look at what Daddy did.
Enthis_17 Apr 13th 2009 11:09PM
It may just be me, but the maelstrom and Gilneas on the 3.1 wallpaper stood out to me more. IDK, it's probably just me :P
