Advertising for casinos banned
The past few weeks have seen a rise of in-game casinos on some servers. I haven't noticed any on my home server of Shadow Council, but on Arygos, where I've been toying with a horde hunter (level 34 right now), I can't walk two steps in Orgrimmar without seeing a /yell advertising a chance to win big.
As of April 20th, however, this will now be prohibited. In Blizzard's words, after that date, "any advertising for a casino is not permitted," and players are encouraged to report advertisers to the GMs. I have to say, I'm not sad to see the casinos go. It's a clever way to make money, yes, but I don't like seeing players advertise repetitively, and of course, the house always wins. It's nice that Blizzard was so responsive about this issue.
While the new rule doesn't prohibit casinos directly, I imagine it will put a stop to most of them, unless there is some secret network of private casinos out there, with transactions carried on in mysterious raid and party chats, or custom channels. If there is, carry on - that's super-cool.

Now if we can only ban "Join my guild" from trade as well I will be completely happy.

Amen to that. IF on Bronzebeard was horrible.
I kind of wish that the game had some form of gambling. BootyBay seems perfect for it. It would be cool if they had a WoW version of poker where players could play against one another... puts a whole new twist to PVP.

What about a group going to the races in shimmering flats and taking bets on who will win? a "day at the races" kind of fun gambling RP idea based on a random chance occurrence that's built into the game? Would that be reportable?
Jaidean Apr 14th 2009 3:06PM
They're not banning the act of gambling, they're just going to ban people that spam and advertise the service.

Because the same team always wins, that would be a hell of a sucker bet.

I actually have an undeground casino. We have a home base in a unused tavern in stormwind park. WIN BIG! Sargeras! 50 Gold buy ins!

Back when WoW was first released, there were some players doing in-game casinos. Blizzard put a stop to them, but it seems that they have raised their ugly little heads again.

YAYYYYYYYY!

I've only seen it twice on Bladefist A, but I'm still happy that there's not going to be any increase.
Kemikalkadet Apr 14th 2009 4:02PM
Do you play Bladefist-EU? I'm on that realm and we've never once had a casino on horde side (in recent times anyway), but i've heard quite a few on alliance side when i go on a journey to IF.
And blizz banning casino's makes it sound like a new rule change.. as far as i know they never unbanned them since they first came up back in classic.

After reading their ads so many times I decided to calculate the chances...
The number 1 had the highest amount of occurrences in the numbers 1-10000 with just over 10% chance
2-9 had an equal 10% chance and 0 had the least number of occurrences.
Never played though.

Personally, I'm glad that they are doing away with the advertising, because, it is VERY annoying, but the "Casinos" I Really don't care about. I mean yes the house will, statistically atleast, always win, but hay if people wana torow away their money, no problem of mine.
Aries Apr 14th 2009 3:10PM
House always wins, that's why they do it. It's a good way to make some gold (for the "casinos" themselves), but yeah, the spam /yell gets annoying real fast especially when my whole chat panel lights up with it nonstop.
Plus, I lost 1000g in like 5 minutes.

Thank God. My realm (Ghostlands US) had suffered a pretty severe infection of these things, it'll be nice to walk around Org again unhindered.

We need a Texas Hold'em addon. If it does exists. Please point me in the right direction.
