How to get the Turtle mount
We're listening in to your replies on Twitter about what you're all planning to do when you log into 3.1 for the first time, and an astounding number of people are planning to go for the fishing mount. Yes, despite the fact that everything Blizzard has told us points to the Turtle mount obtained via fishing being extremely rare, lots of players are after it anyway. We've decided, then, to wish you luck. And to help you out, we'll give you a few tips that just might help make the almost assuredly long, boring, clicking grind bearable.1. Learn to fish (and cook). If you're going to be fishing for the mount, you might as well learn to fish and cook while you do it. The mount itself drops from fishing pools in Northrend, so if all you're doing is going for those, it'll take you a little longer to level than just sitting in Stormwind and leveling fishing (which you can definitely do), but you might as well up your profession while you do it. El's Angling is the guide of choice -- follow it closely and you'll be 450 Fishing/Cooking in no time.
2. Find Fish. If you follow El's guide, you'll figure this out along the line, but even if you've already leveled fishing, you'll definitely want to make sure you've got the Find Fish ability, obtained from the Weather-Beaten Journal, which you get from -- you guessed it -- fishing. This will help you find fish pools on the minimap tracker, and since you need to fish in pools in Northrend to get the mount, it'll be a huge help, if not invaluable.
3. Watch or listen to something. This is more of an out of game tip than an ingame one, but fishing is boring. It's designed to be boring (probably because the real thing is boring, too). You'll have much less chance of going insane while doing all the fishing if you distract yourself a little bit -- turn on a movie, the ballgame, or a podcast or two (ahem) in the background. I like to tweak my UI while I fish as well -- turn your ingame music off, and everything but sound effects down while turning your overall volume up. That'll make sure you hear the splash you need to click, while leaving the rest of the background sound out of it.
4. Choose your fishing spot carefully. Unfortunately, the mount is only found in Northrend pools, so you won't be able to fish in the pools of, say, Terrokar, and try to farm Mr. Pinchy and the Sea Turtle at the same time (though wouldn't that be great?!). But that doesn't mean that there aren't valuable things to fish up while farming the mount -- take a look on the AH and see what kinds of fish (and food, if you have leveled cooking) are selling, and then do your grinding on that stuff. Given that the mount can come from anywhere in Northrend, you have lots of different places to fish from, so check with your guild, too, and see what's needed, and then do your fishing there.
5. It's not going to be easy. Like we said, everything Blizzard has told us about this mount tells us that it's very, very rare, and that the drop rate is very, very low. Blizzard has a habit of raising drop rates later on once a really rare mount has been out for a while (note that's drop mounts, not achievement mounts -- those they usually remove from the game completely), so eventually we're guessing it'll be easier to get. But it's brand new and it's designed to be hard to get, so if you really are going all out trying to get it, prepare to be fishing for a while.
Or who knows -- even with a really low drop rate, there's always that chance you'll pick it up right away. Good luck!

If your skill level is *so low* that all you'll be catching is worthless items, you will not have an opportunity to catch the rare sea turtle, because it is an appropriate-level-for-this-area catch.
Level your skill up elsewhere until you're big enough for Northrend, then come out there to fish.

I'm most peeved about people leveling in the Dalaran fountain, 60 lures instead of five...

Thats what Violet hold is for, Fish little Doggie FISH!
*goes back to fishing in the Daralan Well*
One of these days I'll catch a Fish instead of these mages and locks I've been catching of late
Caught me a Orc too!

Last night I caught the Dark Herring and the Huge rat in under an hour....I will be going for this mount but at what amount of hardcoreness (thats a word right? ;) )remains to be seen. 3.1 offers so much stuff to do and the fact that the mount will be nothing more then a symbol that you like to spend insane amounts of time fishing might also factor into it. I do like the fishing changes and the fact that you can fish anywhere but until you have the skill level for that area you will mostly get junk

Well i have almost 10k "fish and other things caught" on my stats page so fishing for this will be no biggy. I'm well used to elusive catches as well.. fished for 30 mins on average every day for the sewer rat since i got coin master achievement on 12th feb and still don't have my rat.

I highly recommend the FishingAce addon. When you equip a fishing pole, (a) it turns up your sound effects and (b) a double-right-click anywhere on your screen will make you cast. Unequipping the fishing pole again puts your sound back to its previous level and turns off the click binding.

Love fishing and love exotic mounts. I will be fishing for this for sure. Plus, all the fish I can cook and farm out to guild members or sell in the AH, it's a triple win. I put on my iTunes and just fish. Dave Mitchell is so right about bag space. I lost Mr. Pinchy the first time because I had to quick make a spot.

I guess my wife is lucky...
She got it on her first cast on her second pool. To put it mildly she was just a little excited! Check her out, Galeika of Suramar.

I'll fish it up for the novelty, and because I like fishing, but I'm still dissapointed they didn't give it a real sea turtle model. Y'know. With flippers. Sea turtles aren't getting much use out of broad, stubby legs out in the water.

I've fished a few stacks from several pools, still nothing. Then I saw a troll riding around Dalaran on his this morning. And still no Gondria, either! The good news is after some quality time fishing in Sholazar and Borean Tundra, I'll have a full stack of Fish Feasts at least.
medv Apr 15th 2009 5:33PM
I got this on my third or fourth cast last night, while doing the fishing daily in Sholazar Basin. I freaked out, my guild freaked out--there was a good, long freak out.
Good luck to all the other anglers fishing for this guy! Take comfort in knowing that my freakish luck means that I will never, ever manage to fish up Mr. Pinchy or the Dalaran sewer rat.

I was lucky enough to catch the Sea Turtle after about 900-1000 catches, in roughly 4 to 6 hours, don't know for sure
A guildie wich name i WONT reveal got his mount after maybe around an hour of fishing, damn him to death !
I could suggest a place or two but since it could drop from all available pools in Northrend, pick out the best spot that suits you
The Bittertide Lake in Scholozar... Avoid at all costs if u have wow sounds turned on, they seemed to have added a new sound for the hydra's swimming in the lake. And it sounds like a 10 man drum concert in some exotic place :D
Good luck to all who are trying, or will :)

I cached the sea turtle in about 1,5 h in howling fjord and today after 1000 casts i cot my pet rat to so its a special day for me now I am going after the Salty name
Kiltreiser Apr 16th 2009 4:33AM
One of my guildies got it last night in Howling Fjord after fishing for 5 minutes. Very annoyed seeing as it's the only mount in the game I care about (still only have one land mount and one flyer) and I still can't find it!

can I fish him up in dalaran?
