Maintenance continues to be extended, no time frame given
Today's epic maintenance to apply patch 3.1, which has stretched from 1 AM for some realms and 3 AM for others, has been additionally extended. Originally, the realms were supposed to go live at 11 AM PDT; that time has come and gone, and been pushed back a few times.
The latest update, posted to the Breaking News box a few minutes ago, is that they do not currently have an ETA on when the realms will be up, and they'll give us some more information at about 2 PM PDT, which is in 45 minutes or so.
Update 5:15 p.m. EDT: The realms continue to be down, with the in-game message now telling us that there will be an announcement at 6:00 p.m. EDT letting us all know more information.
Update 6:15 p.m. EDT: Maintenance is continuing on all realms. There is no time frame given as to when the realms will be back up, however there will be an additional announcement at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Stay tuned to WoW Insider for more information. Additionally, the official forums and account management appear to be intermittently down now as well.

Jeeze, you would think as long as Blizz has been doing this that they would figure out how to properly drop a patch... guess not.
Avrus Apr 14th 2009 4:29PM
Little patches more often > big patches.
Smaller patches means less likelyhood of major issues during implementation.
JC Apr 14th 2009 4:45PM
Lol, 10 hours to apply a patch? And you thought windows was bad....Thats ridiculous.
Hoggersbud Apr 14th 2009 5:18PM
You obviously have no idea how complicated a real server operation is.
The difference between your home computer and the ones Blizzard is using is like the difference between your car and a nuclear aircraft carrier.
Kevin Gass Apr 14th 2009 5:58PM
^ clearly you have no idea how a real world /silly works
Hoggersbud Apr 14th 2009 6:03PM
Sadly, I'm afraid it's not a joke. I've heard the exact same thing said in earnest already.

i have found the reason why servers are not up yet
forgot to feed the hampster on wheel generating the power to run the interoffice messaging system to tell the boys in maintince to stop rideing the servers and see who stays on the longest
the hampster is complacent.....

I'm just glad I was called in to work today. I was so upset that I was going to miss all the new content and have to wait until after work. The way it's working out, I'll be home just in time for the game to go back up.
Thank You Blizzard! You do care . . .
Vrogy Apr 14th 2009 5:56PM
FAIL.
honestly, as soon as there's an alternative, I'm jumping ship. THis crap happens EVERY PATCH, and WinterLagFest still isn't fixed.
Blizzard, you fail.

I hear that Star Trek is coming out with an MMORPG......*pushes up up glass and makes light saber noises at the cat* RAWR "Damn you snookems you dirtied my shirt again!! Go eat your food!!"
wordsofivory Apr 14th 2009 5:59PM
There are plenty of alternatives.
Warhammer Online
Vanguard
Lord of Rings Online
Eve Online
City of Heroes
...and that's just the ones that came off the top of my head.
"This crap happens EVERY PATCH"
I hate to disappoint you then, because "this crap" happens with every single MMORPG on the market, and in many cases, it's a hell of a lot worse.
Hoggersbud Apr 14th 2009 6:04PM
I tried to try Vanguard, but either it didn't install or something...so...
yeah, this crap happens with everybody.
Lyraat Apr 14th 2009 4:31PM
Ensidia's decimation of Ulduar has been delayed again. Check back at 2pm PST.
Fix't!
Bloodletter Apr 14th 2009 5:38PM
Ensidia is a European Guild
killerkarl Apr 14th 2009 4:32PM
Don't forget that in all likelyhood when the servers come back up it will still probabaly be unplayable for most of the night.
Bosefasaurus Apr 14th 2009 4:32PM
Hrm...I suppose I have time to start up an Eve Online account while I wait...
Tomnationwide Apr 14th 2009 4:32PM
The sound you heard was quality service being flushed down the toilet.
Agravaine Apr 14th 2009 4:34PM
Sure, like Blizzard really REALLY values deadlines over quality.
