Today's epic maintenance to apply patch 3.1, which has stretched from 1 AM for some realms and 3 AM for others, has been additionally extended. Originally, the realms were supposed to go live at 11 AM PDT; that time has come and gone, and been pushed back a few times.
The latest update, posted to the Breaking News box a few minutes ago, is that they do not currently have an ETA on when the realms will be up, and they'll give us some more information at about 2 PM PDT, which is in 45 minutes or so.
Update 5:15 p.m. EDT: The realms continue to be down, with the in-game message now telling us that there will be an announcement at 6:00 p.m. EDT letting us all know more information.
Update 6:15 p.m. EDT: Maintenance is continuing on all realms. There is no time frame given as to when the realms will be back up, however there will be an additional announcement at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Stay tuned to WoW Insider for more information. Additionally, the official forums and account management appear to be intermittently down now as well.

I wonder if the people complaining about extended maintenance are the same ones who gripe when their are glitches with the patch.

I'm so glad I'm working during this patch, as opposed to 3.02... They should have everything worked out about the time I get home.

I, for one, have absolutely no problem with this. Yeah, it'd be great to be on right now, figuring out the perfect ret-healadin dual spec, but really? I'm just glad they're making an effort to keep this from being a disastrous patch launch. And hey, I'd rather wait to log on than just be really disappointed when I do, only to find out they rushed it and it's unplayable. I'm a big fan of the "release it when it's ready" mentality.

Be sure and join the crowds at the trainers after the realms go live.... which should crash the servers...... its gonna be a loooong night. Anybody surprised? By this time next week we will be discussing 3.2.

Dual specs and Ulduar were worth waiting months for, a few more hours isn't a big deal. This is a big patch, it's totally understandable that there would be issues to tackle.

I am not seeing any hint of the servers coming up. I wouldn't be supprised if this goes on for another couple hours.
Everyone rushing to either the Tournament or Ulduar is going to be more fusterating then the ait for the servers to come back up. You might as well be ready to "queue up" for doing the daily quests and hold hands outside of Ulduar as the servers won't let you enter.
I'd be glad to be wrong though.
