Patch 3.1 maintenance extended an extra two hours
Today's maintenance period has just been extended an extra two hours according to Datth, one of Blizzard's Tech Support posters. He specifies that the reason for the extension is unrelated to the Battle.net login server 'issue' that's being discussed heavily on the forums. What the reason for the extension is, we don't really know, but I think we all expected it.The extension does probably mean that those Battle.net users that had concerns over the login server not being ready for them are unwarranted. From what I understand, the work on the login servers is done independently of the patch being applied to the game realms, so the extended maintenance buys the login server folk some extra time. In this particular case, it's a good thing for us, so the login server isn't taunting us while the realms are up.
We'll try to keep you all posted as much as possible throughout the day. Whether the servers start coming up eary or get extended even further, we'll be on top of it as much as we can be.

While I'm a lil sad that the server is being delayed, I'm stoked!
I just won about 500g from my guildies!
We had a bet going that the servers wouldn't come up on time and how late the initial delay would be: I picked 2 hours :P

Actually, you don't win the gold unless it actually comes up 2 hours late. Which I would highly doubt given Blizzards history of patching.

Reading comprehension FTW. Grats on the gold :)

Look like I am going to hold off on setting up BMA on my iPhone just in case...
/crossfingers that the servers actually stay up once the patch goes live.

I get so sick of these extensions and maintenance in general. On Patch Days I get it. Or mabye if we got compensated for the down time. But every week theres at least... 32 hours of game time that i pay for that i cant play.
Acestor Apr 14th 2009 1:56PM
Could be more than 2 hours... :(
"We are continuing to perform maintenance on all realms but currently do not have a definite estimate on when the realms will be playable. We will provide another update in approximately 1 hour with further information on when we expect the maintenance to be complete. Thank you for your patience."

In order to make you happy, Blizzard would have had to stick to v.1.0 of the game.
Maintenance is a necessary evil. Get used to it.
Also, just think of all the content you'd have missed out on if they didn't patch the game? Are you learning something here?
It's a small price to pay for the experience you get. So get used to it or GTFO. Seriously.

32 hours a week? Really? I work just 8 more hours than that every week and highly doubt you're seeing 32 hours of downtime a week. If you are, it's definitely a local issue that you need to resolve, not Blizzard. I'm hoping this is a typo.
I think you mean 32 hours per month, which isn't even really that bad. If they were to credit you for that (assuming $14.95 per month), you'd get a whole $1 a month credit. Rounding up, you pay about $0.50 a day to play and (rounding up extremely generously) there's about 48 hours of downtime per month. That's a whole $1.
Would you really rather pay $1 a month less and have the servers become increasingly unstable and slow? $1 a month for maintenance to prevent this is a great deal in my opinion.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone started qqing about missed hours that they pay for. But 32? Someone needs a math class.

Let's not forget the fact that every few months you get a new content patch (like the one that's coming out...Hey, right now!) that has so much new stuff in it most companies would make you buy it separately. You're getting your money's worth. If you're not willing to settle for the computers being maintained once a week, Guild Wars is that way ------>

Well, while I think that the downtime of 32 hours sounds like a bit of an exaggeration, I understand what Orion is saying. Why is it that Blizzard has to have maintenance in the middle of the day? Why not have maintenance in the middle of the night (3am PST and later), when there are the fewest players online? At those times, on the East coast (US), people are getting ready for school and work, and won't have time to play anyway. The maintenance could be done by 6-7am (PST) and everyone can play happily for the rest of the day.
That's my 2 copper on the matter...good hunting.
