The awesome weapons of the Argent Tournament

On the other hand, the iLevel 200 weapons from the Argent Tournament are some of the best-looking weapons in Wrath of the Lich King. The best thing about them is that aside from being cool, they're thematically designed to fit specific races. As the Argent Tournament highlights being able to 'champion' a particular major or racial city, it's highly appropriate that the rewards fit the theme. Unfortunately for many players who raid, these weapons won't be upgrades. However, the Argent Tournament was specifically designed for the solo player, a wonderful concession to a sizeable portion of the game's customers. Those players should find that the Argent Tournament weapons are excellent upgrades from quest rewards or even heroics.
The designs are visually stunning, with cool glows and -- in the case of the Gnomeregan Bonechopper -- hilarious animation. The weapons are a triumph for solo players everywhere and is even a nod to role-players who should appreciate the strong racial flavor. So even though the hardcore raiders have access to the most powerful weapons in the game, solo players will still be able to wield some of the most beautiful. For iLevel 200, the numbers on them aren't bad, either.
Blizzard's artists have outdone themselves with these weapons. For now, most of them don't share models with any others in the game, unlike the Ulduar items which share models between 10- and 25-man drops. I hope Blizzard comes out with more racial or even faction-themed gear. The only downside is that there are no Orc- and Human-themed weapons, so players will have to make do with items like the Royal Crest of Lordaeron. Except for perhaps Val'anyr, Hammer of the Ancient Kings and a couple of other items, the weapons of the Argent Tournament easily trump Ulduar gear in terms of appearance. It's a great job by Blizzard, and hopefully a mere hint of things to come.

I may have missed this - but is the Tournament just for level 80?
Sev Apr 14th 2009 9:22AM
No, the quests can be done at lower levels, but the rewards can only be used at level 80.
Like the Shattered Sun.

Thanks!

Woot cant wait, i don't really raid much so its going to be fun trying to obtain those beautiful weapons. My favorite one has to be the Exodar one

While at the end of TBC the badge gear was too strong for the effort you needed to get it, it's a shame that any raider could not find any upgrade outside raids. I miss the time when I had many different sources from which I could have got improvement to my gear...
So now we have:
PvP gear: ugly as sin but functional
PvE gear: powerful but usually average looking
Tournament gear: weak but awesome looking

must. have. that. draenei. sword. thingy.
Graham Apr 14th 2009 6:57PM
lol YES! I have always loved the Draenei style. From the Exodar to that sword. Time to go to the tournament!
Friday_Knight Apr 14th 2009 3:28PM
I play a draenei warrior. I'm all over that thing like a hobo on a ham sandwich.
McRaider May 1st 2009 9:47AM
That. Thing. Is. Absolutely. Stunning.

Yes, trolls just love guns, that's why their racial bonus supports them.. oh wait..

That was um, totally my thought actually.

Those weapons looks fantastic! I'm all over the Argent Tournament. However, as a Draenei Shaman I'm pretty disappointed that the only Draenei-specific weapon is a 2h sword. I get that it fits the Paladin thing, but given that EVERY Alliance Shaman is Draenei, they could have given us at least a mace.

I agree. They should have ensured that every race/class combo got a weapon they could at least equip, even if it wasn't perfect stats.

It really breaks my heart, as a shaman, how cool the swords in WoW are. I'm also an avid armor/weapon hoarder, and to be able to not use some of the coolest weapons in game makes me very sad.
miko Apr 14th 2009 9:32AM
someone said they are 'weak' weapons.
i disagree.
these weaps are really nice entry level gear (at least the ones i've seen stats for) and i think that's what is pretty much intended.
i will be picking up that awesome looking Gnomeregan Bonechopper on my Gnome Lock Engineer Alt when i get round to leveling him (how could i not with that combo :P ) as opposed to the now inferior Flameheart Spell Scalpel which is the previous pre-raid starter.
sephirah Apr 14th 2009 9:52AM
While for a lock the Tournament weapons are better than blues from rep and drops from heroics, they're on par on drops from Naxx 10, and inferior to the weapon from KT 10.
As Naxx is easily puggable, by now the majority of players should have weapons comparable or better than those from the Tournament.
To me this means that Blizzard is saying "Hey, if you are really too lazy to raid, we'll give you something anyway. But if you raid, you will raid till the end of your days, do only that and get bored to death in some months, as you won't find any other source of improvement elsewhere in the game!"
miko Apr 14th 2009 10:14AM
basically yes but without the word 'lazy'.
i dont have issues with accepting the nature of reality.
you want to improve your charater in WoW once you've hit max level and cleared all the quests you Raid or PvP.
it's hardly an insight to state such as its been this way since the game launched 5 years ago.
