UPDATED: European maintenance extended till 3pm CET
Let's get real here for a second. When I signed off at midnight, the US realms were only just started to pop back up. Did you honestly think we here in Europe were going to get away scott free? You did? Oh dear, let's not go there, eh?
Folks have been reporting extended maintenance and so we're now looking at 3pm CET. All we need to do now is cross our digits that Blizzard managed to fix whatever was ailing the US realms before starting to roll out 3.1 on our severs.
Needless to say. I'll be keeping you guys in the loop should things change.
So in the meantime, as your waiting, why not enter our EU loot card competition? Your could also check out our 3.1 FAQ and start planning your new primary and secondary specs using Wowhead's new calculator.
Not finished patching yet and having issues? Try this post.
Hopefully we should have a smoother ride of it but I'll be keeping you updated nevertheless.
UPDATE: As of 3pm CET, the realms are slowly starting to come back up. Some of the most popular ones - Vek'nilash amongst them - keep going offline, probably due to being hammered by players trying to login. Hang on in there.
UPDATE: Most of the realms are now back!

can't wait...
must kill giants...
Seriously though, we should be up in 1,5-2 hours. Blizzz hardly ever has to patch for 12 straight hours on the EU realms :)

I guess it's time to play some Fable 2 to pass the time and keep on browsing the EU forums. This sucks because I actually woke up early.
Lesley Smith Apr 15th 2009 5:11AM
Hmm Fable 2 .... oh wait, I'm working.
Seriously, we should have it easy, it's just a matter of patience and finding something else to do. See my suggestions above :D

I woke up early too!! Stupid Blizz.
Gief dual spec now pl0x.
Retropally Apr 15th 2009 5:06AM
Ah well, its not like we dont know how to wait for more content is it :P

Exactly, as someone said yesterday, I'd rather they take a bit longer and get it right first time.
We don't want the damn ice stone melting again.
Also, I read that some of the US realms were up briefly then taken back down again, that would annoy me WAY more, that's got to hurt :)
Lesley Smith Apr 15th 2009 7:39AM
Exactly .... we were never going to be playing by 11am. 3pm is quite acceptable given the problems, as long a Blizzard have learned from yesterday's kuffufle.

I so can't wait!

Hm, perhaps a good op to finally finish Fallout 3.
Zelius Apr 15th 2009 9:47AM
My thoughts exactly!

Quick question: If we;ve had the background downloader running and downloaded the ~850Meg file, will there be more to download once the realms are back up, or is that it?
Any help much appreciated.
FantomRedux Apr 15th 2009 8:24AM
I can't see why there would be. Blizz are applying the patch to the servers, so it's gonna have the same content as the patch everyones downloaded.

"Let's get real here for a second. When I signed off at midnight, the US realms were only just started to pop back up. Did you honestly think we here in Europe were going to get away scott free? "
Well Lesley, considering that our transatlantic neighbour has already worked with this issue for 24 hrs one owuld expect the downtime to be less on this side of the puddle.
Repeating errors and not communicating being the less smart way to drive a business and all.

Having less hassle and having no hassle at all, are kind of different.

The advantage of being in the EU is that when our patches take longer, it's because they realized that their original time estimates were off and have a reasonable expectation for them to complete when they say they will complete.
It's not because they're sitting in the US Blizzard War Room waiting for an Oracle job to finish yelling "work damn you! work!" while blues constantly update the forums saying "No ETA yet, sorry".

They're supposed to release stuff when it's ready (TM), not so they can put in noblegarden too late for it's real-world counterpart ...
Anyhow, I'll be leveling my alts further in stead of rushing to ulduar, the argent tournament or my class trainer to get those gimme-gimme-gimme dual specs
I may on the other hand pick up fishing and try for that OMG it's so F-ing cute turtlemount
Mev Apr 15th 2009 5:38AM
weird thing that all realm shows as online at the status page. but when you login you wont see any realm online.
Tony Apr 15th 2009 2:29PM
Really frustrating and stupid... How come they cant even detect their own servers being unavailable...? Do they just "ping" the server and as long as the network card responds then its all ok?
st00pid!

Tonight when I get home from work I'll be respeccing and dual speccing my main, doing the cooking daily followed by my first fishing daily and then moving back to my alt levelling to avoid the crush. I reckon old world should be just about be deserted for a while :)
