Ensidia downs Yogg-Saron
It was inevitable that someone would down Yogg-Saron pretty quickly, and less than twenty four hours after the patch went live European guild Ensidia have claimed World First on the Death God. Given the non-linear progression into Ulduar, a lot of other guilds were able to pull off world firsts on other bosses. It also seems that Ensidia was focusing on clearing Ulduar in normal mode, as none of their kills were done on hard mode. This means we're unlikely to see Algalon downed this week (not by Ensidia, anyway).
While it came as no surprise that someone killed him, what surprised me was that it was Ensidia. I was betting on Vodka (can I get a 'for the Alliance!' from anyone?) and that they managed to do it while many of the EU realms were having stability issues. Of course, it should be noted that Ensidia was the same guild that cleared all Wrath content three days after its release (they hadn't decided on a name yet).
Boubouille over at MMO Champion has a full raid list and info on some of the loot that dropped, including a rather nice cloak and a piece of that legendary healer mace.

FOR THE HORDE indeed!
And I'm pleasantly surprised. They've got FIVE FEMALE ORCS in the raid group.
I think they have more than the total number of female orcs I have in my guild.

Within 24hrs (with X many days practising on the PTR), surely? It's an impressive organisational feat considering how iffy the servers were but it's not like they'll have gone in blind.

Yogg-Saron wasn't on the PTRs
Lish Apr 16th 2009 10:49AM
No but many of the other bosses were and they had plenty of time to practice on them which made getting up to Yogg-Saron pretty easy. It'd be like adding a new boss after KT in Naxx.

Really, Vodka got tagged but not Ensidia?
Bardo Apr 16th 2009 11:12AM
Update: tag updated.
Credit where it's due, for sure.

Unbelievable.
Gratz to Crystal Meth.

Kungen just posted on his Twitter that they're taking a short food break and going to clear 10 man version too. When do these guys sleep?

When the rich interest in Dubai that funds them says they can!
Seriously, a professional guild with all BiS playing through on normal mode? I'm not at all surprised. Hard mode is going to be harder and the real measure by which uber-guilds will be judged.
What some people don't seem to be able to accept is that normal mode is meant to be done by normal guilds. Of course normal mode is going to seem like a cakewalk to a guild like Ensidia, especially since they got so much practice on the PTR on the bosses prior to Yogg!
The days of the baseline mode of a raid instance c-blocking everyone are over.

Why I'm a bit scared by the thought of someone following the "life" of a WoW raid leader on twitter?
bob Apr 16th 2009 10:45AM
So how long until we start seeing post complaining about the lack of new content?
Iceveiled Apr 16th 2009 10:46AM
They don't. They just suck down sugary drinks and work on type II diabetes.

Congrats... Big Deal. Like it has been said they were in the PTR and learned everything. I'm just glad it was not on hard mode. We will at least have a week or two of not hearing "WoW is so Easy, or maybe we are just so Leet"
Why do everything in the first 24 hours. I for one and sick of Naxx and I'm glad my guild is taking its time..kind of we jumped right in to 25 man Uld. but still why rush it? We will be waiting months before the next content patch comes out.
crsh Apr 16th 2009 10:55AM
Nobody was able to test Yoggy on the PTR.
Lord Negatron Apr 16th 2009 11:56AM
You rush content so you can stand around major cities AFK in your Epic Gear and on Rare mounts... For hours. ( or so it seems )
;)
smh

"We will at least have a week or two of not hearing "WoW is so Easy, or maybe we are just so Leet"
You'd think so, but as noted elsewhere in these comments, there are always going to be people who assume that, because an elite band of professional gamers downed Yogg in 24 hours, everybody will have cleared the Hard Modes within a week.
"Why do everything in the first 24 hours."
In their case, it's obvious. World/Continent/Realm Firsts mean more press coverage and more prestige for the guild, which in turn means better sponsorships and more tournament invites. It'd be like if your job required you to work all night on a big project; you may or may not enjoy it, but you do it because that's why they pay you. Ideally, the boss recognizes your extra effort and gives you a bonus or some vacation time.
As for the rest of us, those who aren't professional gamers, I see no reason to burn through the content. Spend a few weeks, get your people geared up. Go back to Naxx25 and EoE25 to patch any gaps in your gear. Learn the Ulduar fights the hard way rather than reading and executing somebody else's strategy.

Yay for spelling and using each one of those correctly. Better than most...

@Video Games Blog
They did ramp up the difficulty. Not sure what article you were reading here but the one I read said "It also seems that Ensidia was focusing on clearing Ulduar in normal mode, as none of their kills were done on hard mode." How far along has your guild gotten on hard mode?
