Ensidia downs Yogg-Saron
It was inevitable that someone would down Yogg-Saron pretty quickly, and less than twenty four hours after the patch went live European guild Ensidia have claimed World First on the Death God. Given the non-linear progression into Ulduar, a lot of other guilds were able to pull off world firsts on other bosses. It also seems that Ensidia was focusing on clearing Ulduar in normal mode, as none of their kills were done on hard mode. This means we're unlikely to see Algalon downed this week (not by Ensidia, anyway).
While it came as no surprise that someone killed him, what surprised me was that it was Ensidia. I was betting on Vodka (can I get a 'for the Alliance!' from anyone?) and that they managed to do it while many of the EU realms were having stability issues. Of course, it should be noted that Ensidia was the same guild that cleared all Wrath content three days after its release (they hadn't decided on a name yet).
Boubouille over at MMO Champion has a full raid list and info on some of the loot that dropped, including a rather nice cloak and a piece of that legendary healer mace.

People will find any reason to complain. The game isn't tailor-made to individual's desired level of difficulty. There are always going to be elite players who think everything is too easy and there will always be casual players who will experience the pinnacle of WoW difficulty as any given dungeon that any given geared player could wipe their ass with.
Ulduar offers hard-mode boss battles. There will, inevitably, be those who have the best gear and spend most of their waking hours tuning themselves to be the best players they can be, who will *always* want more of a challenge than what is offered. At some point people have to realize that the more they play, the better they get and will eventually reach a level of expertise where nothing short of literally unkillable bosses will be satisfying to them.
Point is, "difficulty" is an objective term and the longer you've been playing and honing your skills, the less you will see that which you define as a "challenge".

Grats... but who really cares? That is a professional guild who gets paid to play (i.e. - their job), they spent HOURS on the PTR learning everything they could. Yeah, not everything was tested on the PTR, but so what?
The only thing I care about is when MY guild clears it :)
Dightkuz Apr 16th 2009 12:44PM
You really are a dumbass for thinking that just because someone gets sponsored, they are better players.
oscurotoro Apr 16th 2009 6:22PM
Wait what... That's exactly what them being sponsored means. Who is paying gamers that don't know how to play?
Moo Apr 16th 2009 12:25PM
Kudos to them for clearing 25 man! I honestly think it makes sense to go for the normal mode (which does NOT mean it's not hard, fyi) if they cared so much about world first (which they really seem to have).
For those of you who think that Ulduar is "too easy" based on this, think of the following facts
- These are the cream of the crop raiders in BiS gear
- They admit that they did- have a difficult time, despite having been on the PTR. It took 13 (or was it 10?) hours to complete the raid and they skipped one boss. If it's anything like Naax, it will eventually become a 3-4 hour raid when everyone is geared and good at all the fights. So 10-13 hours is a good deal of time.
I think that Blizz didn't make it "too easy" if the highest ranked guild took 10-13 hours to do the raid on normal mode. How many of us put in the time pre-Ulduar to spend countless hours on the PTR? How many of us would be willing to do the 20 hours of raiding and waiting for the servers? How many of us have all or almost all BiS gear? Not many. So the fact that Ensidia was able to do this does not mean we should be whining about it.
All that they showed was that they put a lot more time than most of us would be willing to into the game, and raiding. I know I have plenty of other stuff to do in my life and will be fine with progressing through Ulduar at a moderate pace with my guild. It's more fun for us to not plow through new content. I understand how some guilds want to do that, but then they get problems with getting bored until new content is released. Blizzard had a good idea when they came up with 14(?) hard modes, so at least the super hardcore guilds that get all the gear they need and have normal mode on farm will have more to do.

Good to see Vodka get screwed over...a guild full of douchebags and not much else.
jfofla Apr 16th 2009 12:29PM
Don't Euros have jobs?
Lemons Apr 16th 2009 12:32PM
I guess when you're paid to raid you'd better be the first to down shit.
McRaider Apr 16th 2009 12:43PM
For the alliance!!!
(I prefer horde... main => human tho)
Serr Apr 16th 2009 12:45PM
glad to see I'm not the only one preemptively cringing the from inevitable flood of QQ from mediocre players claiming 'ezmode' for everything ...
Drache Apr 16th 2009 4:07PM
Grats, Ensidia!
Actually, quite sad to see Vodka missing out on that one. They're on "my" server (but on the "wrong" side).
Our server was one of the last to come up, had huge issues for hours to come. Our guild wanted to try Ulduar but couldn't because players got stuck and couldn't even log in on their raiding mains anymore. Encounters were bugged and what-not, the server got restarted quite frequently.
There's a nagging thought in my mind that thinks that perhaps the U.S. doesn't have an "X hour advantage", but that we're merely the Guinea Pigs for the European server upgrade :)
As to Vodka(z), I don't have an Alliance toon on this server, but from anything that I've read on the realm forum as well as the behavior of the players when I ran into them, they've always behaved quite nice, sportsmanslike, and much better behaved than a lot of guilds on either side.
Xora Apr 16th 2009 1:03PM
Do they even enjoy the game anymore?
Damian Apr 17th 2009 3:24PM
Congrats to them on getting the achievement. The only part that really bothers me about this is the old "salt in the open wound effect" that it seems to have on so many people including myself, since many of us have not even been able to zone into the damn raid instance, let alone down a boss.
Oh well with any luck I will get to get in there sometime this weekend (that is if Blizz can stabilize the damn servers). Grats again guys and glad to see it was the Horde that did it first :)
Gerg Apr 16th 2009 2:11PM
Here's the world first I want to see.
No Vent.
No playing the raid on the test realms.
No reading strategies from the people who did play on the test realm.
No addons.
Let me know when your guild clears it like that.
Ayane Apr 16th 2009 8:08PM
Now that I wanna see!
Lemons Apr 17th 2009 3:43AM
Well...at least no playing on the PTR...I mean come on how is that even right?
It's not like they're flexing any mental muscles trying to figure out how to overcome a new challenge...they're just redoing what they've already learned on the PTR.
justincmorris Apr 17th 2009 12:26AM
yep ensida has downed yogg.... no what makes you think they will not get on their fully geared alts/bench warmers to start a new raid ID and down all the hard modes and clear the whole place throughout this weekend?
My bet is they will keep your eyes peeled saying ensida has downed hard mode of Uldar.
Ska Jeff Apr 16th 2009 2:54PM
I'm pretty sure they have the server stacked in their favour.
*Instance server down*
Ensidia *dials up the Blizzard EU backdoor hotline, ticketing for recording purposes*
*Instance server up*
:O

Actually that's a perfectly reasonable correlation to make, while they may not be good because they get paid, they get paid because they are good.
And seriously who's going to sponsor you if you suck?
Fizzle Apr 16th 2009 3:05PM
Wait- why the hell are they being sponsored? And by who?
