US$20 shipping for a US$6.50 piece of plastic and circuitry. All because I live in New Zealand. I call shenanigans.

This one looks much cooler than the one I have, what looks like representations of the different titles, Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo. I definitely like it.

So I quit WoW, do you think this would be good for whenever D3 comes out or should I not bother until years from now when D3 actually gets a release date?

No authenticatore are in stock at the EU Blizzard store. :-(

Ordered one for myself and one for wife.
This Hardware one is actually better than the Iphone one, more reliable.
If some trouble happen when you patch your Iphone, the serial of the software authenticator will be lost and you got to call Blizzard.
With those Hardware Authenticators, there is no risk of losing the serial (well unless the thing is broken but that would really be your fault) .
The Iphone one is very susceptible to Iphone OS issues.

I sure hope the button on these is better than some of the really old ones. I still have my Blizzcon Authenticator, but one of my buddies had his button break :(

This thing is deffinately a must have. I have been using it for about 6 months now. Its nice not having to worry about your account being hacked.

Question: Do you need to convert to a Battle.net account to purchase this? It looked like you needed to.
Thoughts on how well the Battle.net accounts are doing now?
Panaçea Apr 19th 2009 3:15PM
You need a Battle.net account to purchase from the Blizzard store, but your WoW accounts do not need to be associated with the accounts just to buy one.
However, once you receive the authenticator, you must associate it with a Battle.net account in order to get the security and that means your WoW subscription will need to be associated to the same Battle.net account as well.
I have used a Battle.net account for a while now and personally haven't had any issues. The login problems that have been reported never affected me as I was not trying to log in during those times.
The extended maintenance when applying patch 3.1 was due in part to Blizzard clearing up Battle.net authentication issues (what was causing the problems earlier). No problems have occurred since 3.1 was applied, so hopefully it has been fully resolved.
